I’ve always wondered why this song didn’t get more attention like black magic or die by the sword or even crionics. The intro to this song was epic especially for 1983.
Everyone saying it sounds like Creeping Death. You actually mean Creeping Death sounds like Metal Storm. Because Show No Mercy came out in 1983 while Ride The Lighting came out in 1984.
Yeah but, Creeping Death was written in 1983 as well. It was on Ride the Lightning DEMO, which included 1.Fight Fire With Fire 2.Ride the Lightning 3.Creeping Death and 4.When Hell Freezes Over (then they changed it to The Call of Ktulu)
Played this song at my dad's wake in January of 2021 he really loved playing guitar although his health was deteriorating at a rapid rate due to cancer he was always jamming out on his guitar 🤘🎸my three favorite covers from him were always this song by slayer, flash of the blade from iron maiden and Flick of the switch from AC/DC 🙌🏼🙏🏼
this doesn't sound like creeping death. sure the overall sound of the guitars is similar and they may share a power chord but they are obviously completely different songs. and like mentioned earlier this song came out in 83 whereas creeping death came out in 84..... so if anything creeping death sounds like this not the other way around
I'll trap you in the pentagram And seal your battered tomb Your life is just another game For Satan's night of doom! Perfect song for a villain. *A true villain!*
A misty night, a perfect night Beneath the cold of the frozen star You feel the fright, you know I'm near You never should have come this far I am alive, you can't kill me I will survive eternity Go through the fire, walk past the dead Lost in my eternal maze Your heart pounds through the mist filled air Your concentration breaks for me to strike You've cowered down, you've broken the chain Now I can freeze your burning eyes You see me lift the axe, as it plunges through your shield You now begin to panic as you see your chances grow slim Your running through the endless maze, you turn and I'll be there A force too strong for you to fight, I'll see your end tonight You think you can destroy me? You'd better think again I am eternal terror, my quest will never end I'll trap you in the pentagram and seal your battered tomb Your life is just another game for Satan's night of doom………..!!!!
The riff sounds so much like it was from a Death song. It's not crazy to think that this song may be responsible for everything that Chuck Schuldiner did.
Metallica has nabbed heaps of riffs, but this isn't one of them. Slayer, on the other hand, had a tribute song of their own: it's called Aggressive Perfector. Opens like Hit The Lights, main riff like Phantom Lord and end like Motorbreath. Everybody has their influences, and occasionally it's painfully close to the source. I mean, the number of bands who have written riffs using open, 3rd 5th and 6th fret on E or A strings is unbelievable, spanning Deep Purple, AC/DC, Sabbath, Metallica, Kreator... there are limits to a style. Lots of bands also use pentatonic scales. Did they copy those notes from somebody else? No.
This song is so fast n kick ass I wanna punch somebody, but then again I get that feeling listening to black magic,,,its really is a good life having these bands around to listen to
***** Slayer - Show No Mercy Release date: *December 3, 1983* Metallica - Ride the Lightning Release date: *July 27, 1984* Creeping Death came out almost 8 months after this song. Not bagging on Metallica, just saying this was first really.
Kirk Hammett wrote what would become Creeping Death when he was in Exodus, and it was called ''Die By His Hand''. If anything this sounds similar to Four Horsemen, which we know for a fact was written by Mustaine before he left.
Christopher Hargreaves Kirk hammet sucks lol slayers Gary Holt is a better guitarist and song writer and Lars can't touch Lambordo I could go for days on this subject plus Metallica is rock not metal.
Metal Storm is too badass for words. Between this song and Crionics, you can really hear the Judas Priest/Iron Maiden influence, especially in the harmonies.
Fuk!! when I was 17 there was nothing better than cranking up the old crate amplifier loud as shit!! Playing along to this awsome metal extraviganzer!! It great that I can still remeber how to play it all.Anyone here that luv's this song I insist you to learn it . Now!!!
ChernovFan100 Yeah, it was 83. So, if I were one of those typical internet douchebags I would say that the intro to Creeping Death reminds the OP of this. However, I am able to draw the conclusion that he was familiar with Creeping Death first, and therefore his statement is completely valid.
To be fair, Metallica recorded their Ride The Lightning demos in October of 1983 and Slayer released Show No Mercy in December 1983. So I think it's fair to say that neither band knew.

Alright no one's brought it up so I am...this is such a crazy riff ensemble. There's so many and they're all fucking killer especially the one that starts at 1:56 and the ensuing drums/lyrics/groove is so sex. That specific transition gets me everytime
IRON JUDASLAYERFUL FATE!!!! I love this song so much, a true heavy metal gem before they went full thrash proto-death in Hell Awaits (which I also love)

best slayer album in my opinion
the only Album, i'd say)
by far
>black magic
Show No Mercy, Haunting The Chapel and Hell Awaits -- My favorite Slayer records!
let me guess-you dont like reign in blood because its too mainstream?
Possibly slayer's most underrated song
Who said it was underrated.
And one of the best
I’ve always wondered why this song didn’t get more attention like black magic or die by the sword or even crionics. The intro to this song was epic especially for 1983.
I think it's the greatest metal song of all time!
Satan Laughs As You Eternally Rot
S. L. A. Y. E. R.
That was etched in the middle of the album in 82
really? I thought they first thought of it on the album booklet of divine intervention.
i have the vynil show no mercy ,lp edition 84/that in the line of the one side say"satán laughs as you eternally rot...."
s l a y e r
Fuck
I love SLAYING Chicks To Slayer
Lots of Maiden influence in this album. I love it.
This might just be the best Slayer song of all time
Aadolf and Tormentor
Back when Slayer was more heavy than Thrash. I can hear Accept in this
No might about it.
Tormentor though. Funny that slayer and kreator both had tormentor on debyt albums. And they kick ass!
@@linkdorf376 W.A.S.P. also had Tormentor on the first album. Wasp's Tormentor also kicks ass.
Nobody copied nobody. Thrash just tends to have repetitive E note palm mutes. Was bound to happen.
m169marroquin Has anyone ever said ure Mustache looks like Metallica?
Checkmate :)
Checkmate : )
+m169marroquin well power cords and cords as well
+m169marroquin agreed
Show No Mercy is one of my favorite albums all time.Never bored, never ending, exciting and powerfull.

Apparently. No one can write an album within 1 year.
Some Guy Kirk Hammett wrote the riff for Creeping Death when he was 16
If he wrote that only Metallcia know that shit,no way people from different band will
metal storm - 1983
creeping death - 1984
they don't sound alike.
this one should be played live more often!! epic stuff!
+Corné K Agree
Yes!
Perfect opener
So many riffs in this song \m/
R.I.P. Jeff Hanneman
Man, this song really has aged well. These days I mostly find myself listening to Show No Mercy and Hell Awaits.
Me as well \m/
X3
So true. Like a fine wine. Just gets better with time.
But I hate fuckin wine and I love SLAYER
A lot of all these amazing albums will never stop sounding as amazing as they always did!
The intro sounds like some piano symphony played on a guitar.
Reminds me of toccata and fugue
1:57 is in my top-tier list for favorite riffs ever
Bought this vinyl 33 years ago solely based on the cover and their name what a gem
One of the wickest, sickest and greatest intro of a song ever.
Now I can freeze your burning EYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!
So fucking good.
fuck ya man
Agreed, that scream in particular is fucking amazing \m/
Christopher Hargreaves Classic Araya \m/
God*
Perfect opener for every Slayer show.
My favorite slayer album. People prob think I'm crazy but idc, I love the maiden influence on this album that's why
Most underrated Thrash Metal song Ever
JAJAJA
Death Metal
now that's a lie.
@@anthonypalermo8816 this isn't death metal, if you want to listen to death metal, go listen to Cannibal Corpse or Death.

This music makes bring me the horizon and avenged sevenfold cry
TheGreatNorthernBuzzKill Not revenged eightfold, they were actually fans of slayer.
*Asking Alexandria and Black veil Brides :D
cause they're gay.
TheGreatNorthernBuzzKill a7x imho way better
TheGreatNorthernBuzzKill their riffs are usually rip offs
I am not used to this type of slayer song but man does this feel good
this doesn't sound like creeping death. sure the overall sound of the guitars is similar and they may share a power chord but they are obviously completely different songs. and like mentioned earlier this song came out in 83 whereas creeping death came out in 84..... so if anything creeping death sounds like this not the other way around
+MrJcgoins I honestly wouldn't even care if Metallica took that opening riff and expanded upon the concept. Creeping Death is a fucking intense song.
Erwin Rommel One of my favorite songs from any band...
Der Fliegende Holländer Metallica sucks
Slayer > Metallica
The amount of people who get salty when Metallica is mentioned just shows how Metallica lives rent free on the heads of many metal fans
@00:17: That intro is just so damn easy, but yet so hard to get the timing right on guitar.
fucking right?
It's in 9/8 Time, that's why.
One reason I find myself listening to metal alot. Every other song does 6/8, 3/4, or common time. Metal is just so much less boring.
this whole album is probably the best metal ive heard, the guitar is perfect and so is the vocals!
I bet this is slayers most under rated song ever! Better than angel of death in my opinion!
ADHDrummer587 fuck yes!!!
So many killer riffs in just one song.
I'll trap you in the pentagram
And seal your battered tomb
Your life is just another game

Perfect song for a villain. *A true villain!*
A misty night, a perfect night

Rest in Peace, Jeff. All fans of metal are united in your memory.
One of the best song ever, it makes me weep to see it so under appreciated
I will survive, eternity
The riff sounds so much like it was from a Death song. It's not crazy to think that this song may be responsible for everything that Chuck Schuldiner did.
+Martin Staykov I thought the same thing man!
fuck yeah slayer!!!! 111!!!
Martin Staykov agreed.
Martin Staykov lots of kreator Jams sound like the riffs from slayer as well
chuck was making death metal since 1983.
One of the best intros ever
Why do people always need to compare things, everybody was influenced by somebody else. It's all good music.
Will always be my fave Slayer album. As much as i love Reign In Blood this album is just fantastic. Great guitar parts, great vocals, great drums
This song came out a year before creeping death by metallica. 1983. Creeping death was out 1984.
The riff at 0:17 alone elevates this as Slayer's absolute best.
Metallica has nabbed heaps of riffs, but this isn't one of them. Slayer, on the other hand, had a tribute song of their own: it's called Aggressive Perfector. I can't understand the fuss behind Reign in Blood when this is clearly the best Slayer album.
a perfect metal song from a perfect metal album
Such an underrated album, needs to be re-re-mastered,...LOUDER!
Actually this song played with Flesh Storm was Slayers concert intro in 2007/2008.
This song was a huge stepping stone into where they were heading musically.
"Now I can freeze you burning eeeeeyes" love it
Gonna get wasted on halloween night and listen to song lol
this is turning into my new favorite Slayer song
This song is so fast n kick ass I wanna punch somebody, but then again I get that feeling listening to black magic,,,its really is a good life having these bands around to listen to

Metal Storm is too badass for words. Between this song and Crionics, you can really hear the Judas Priest/Iron Maiden influence, especially in the harmonies.

This song is awesome, if it weren't for Reign in Blood this is my favourite album. Brilliant when you think of the time it was recorded.
intro reminds me of creeping death anyone else?
I can see what you mean. Ride The Lightning came out in 84, but I can't remember what year this album came out? Would it have been 83?

This song is so awesome... It's too awesome... I love it!
This could easily be put on "Kill 'Em All" by Metallica. It has that sound to it. lol
This is personally one of my favorite songs by Slayer, too. lol
lazyfireball7889 I doubt Metallica could make anything so aggressive.
Eric Dixon Lol, okay.
This sounds almost exactly like Metallica's first album.
lazyfireball7889 They sounded like a faster Iron Maiden than Metallica. They were a Maiden cover band before they started writing their own stuff. Plus "The Final Command" is pretty much Maiden with Araya on vocals.
Also Metallica actually stole riffs from Slayer.
Eric Dixon What riffs? Also, it's not stealing if it's sampling. Unless they completely ripped it. :P
Plus, it's just notes pretty much. Lol
+Eric Dixon You are talking out your ass and sounds like a slayer fanboy, Metallica made way more agressive songs on their first four albums than this. Showed this song to my Chihuahua, now I am a proud owner of a dire wolf
I love how it literally sounds like a metal storm
This sounds a lot like iron maiden and judas priest
John Davis those were some of slayers main influences it took them a while to get their own sound
Jeff Hanneman look in the 80s was like Rob Halford, thats why Rob changed his look to Kerry King style
listening to this high honestly is the best thing ever made. best album. fucking...slayer
I think the instrumental intro is called Metal Storm and the actual part with vocals is Face the Slayer, I could be wrong though
