- Fellow Patriots & Freedom lovers, I was peacefully exercising my constitutional rights at the Division Of Motor Vehicles in Dover Delaware when I was confronted by public servants who didn’t understand our rights. Instead of de-escalating and explaining our rights , Capital Police decided being rude and ignoring us was the answer. Let me know your thoughts in the comments! I always love the looks on the bystanders' faces like they are shocked that someone is talking to the police like that, holding their feet to the fire. I love it. There are cameras everywhere and no one questions being spied on by private businesses or the gov. But a citizen exercising their rights freaks them out.
And those camera's footage is public record that can be requested or subpoenaed by anyone.
Out of an entire room full of people at a public DMV, that guy's wife was the only person who felt uncomfortable? (And apparently he always speaks for her.) She should get counseling for her uncomfortable feelings or STF home.
I think she needs more help with how uncomfortable her husband makes her than Sean.

Never ceases to amaze me how disrespectful and rude people that work with the public are. When you treat your employers that way, usually you get fired. Why don’t public servants meet the same fate? is it that hard to find people that don’t treat the general public with disdain?

It’s strange to me how people get crazy about your camera but not about building cameras. I repaired security cameras for the federal government for decades and it was amazing how close they could zoom in. Even zooming through car windows and reading things the people inside of them were reading. And because our cameras were sensitive to our infrared lighting, we could see everything, when it appeared to be totally dark to the unaided eye.
It's a perspective thing. People tend to see surveillance cameras as ways to keep them safe, but see some random person's camera as a way to stalk/harass/harm them.

Aside from going through the lengthy FOIA process, I'm not likely to find myself plastered all over RUclips by footage from those cameras.

Just a suggestion Sean. I noticed in this public building they had an AED heart resuscitation machine, which is a very good thing to have. While visiting other public buildings you might take the time to look for one or the absence of one, just for public information purposes. More great work Sean. The public has become numb to the fact that cameras are everywhere, so it's shocking that these people get bossy and confrontational when they see you with a camera.

While that officer told the others not to engage with you, it's super disappointing that he neither identified nor did he educate those public servants that what you're doing is not only lawful but our duty as citizens to inspect and keep our employees in line.

Consider "work-shopping" this technique in your next video: If and when the police show up and together you deduce no crime or breaking any law has taken place, ask them politely not to contact you again. Then when they keep talking to you or asking you questions, ask them again politely not to contact you again. If they don't cease and desist their unwelcomed communications with you, tell them you need to file a harassment complaint and possibly a TRO against them as this is what they recommend women and men do when they are contacted by people they no longer want to be contacted by. Just tossin' it out there Sean.

Sean I concur with your commentary. That sorry excuse for a police officer needs another job that doesn't require people skills. He absolutely blew a golden oppertunity to properly educate not only that rude & disrespecful DMV female employee but anybody within hearing range about the what and why you were doing there. She and others are now more anxious confused and uninformed when the next person enters with a camera. So sad good government isn't taught in our schools any longer. Nobody is being held to account by the camera guy. He is impinging on the rights of the public not to have their images used for financial gain without consent.
I don't know what's funnier, when a cop says, "have a good day" over and over like it's insulting, or when auditors are like sheesh, leave me alone and then act like they were super interested in filming whatever is hung on the walls, lol.

Exactly, I agree with you 100%. While the government has the right to film us I too want my rights to be able to film in public. Do I wish there was no filming in public? Kind of lol. I'm disgusting right now lol. I'm disabled and had a brain surgery and during that brain surgery the Dr cut the nerve to my front teeth and they died. Over the past two years they have fallen out piece by piece and I'm mortified. I don't want anyone to see me like this until I can somehow come up with money to get them fixed so yeah I do not want to be on camera right now but I know that's incredibly selfish so I'd never suggest that that law should change in any way all because I'm having an embarrassing life moment lol
I hate that the government violates me by recording my every single move, I really do. It's not because I have anything to hide in a criminal way either because I follow the laws 100% and respect that we have them. I just think it's none of their business to know where I went to lunch yesterday, who I was with, what we were wearing, if we bought anything and how we got there. I think it's an overreach of government work and I don't feel like they are doing it to keep us safe. Sure it is helpful in certain situations and that's why we as the public haven't made an issue about it. We've gone ahead and just allowed them to have this overreach because we know it does help aid when someone has been violated criminally. It helps find people, it helps identify who did what and it helps catch criminals in the act of committing their crime so for the betterment of everyone we haven't put up a big fight over it even though we don't really like it. We know public safety is more important than our feelings and privacy in public.
The issue is I still personally think it's gone way too far but that's whatever lol. As long as the government continues to be able to film us 24/7 I absolutely will not allow them to try to deny us that same equal right. I'll stand behind Sean and every other auditor in their rights to film in public even if I don't really want to be on anyone's video because just like you said, what they are doing is far more important than my feelings. If I don't want to be filmed I'll just try to quietly slink off in the opposite direction 😂😂😂. I'll definitely keep my mouth shut so they can't film my teeth lol and I can always put on a mask and sunglasses if I really feel like keeping myself private. There is no expectation of privacy in public so if I want that then it's my onus to provide that for myself.
Could you honestly imagine the nightmare it would be if they tried to say we couldn't film people in public or film without their permission? I'd have to stop everyone on the ferris wheel and get their written consent to be in my video that I'm taking of my son on the ride so he has home movies to watch of our trip to the fair that day lol. There's always a chance you could be in some random families home movies or photo albums for years and years and generations even. I'm sure I'm in strangers pictures and 100 years from now when their future generations are looking at old old old pictures of their family they'll see lil old me and be like "I wonder who she was?" That's actually pretty cool to me though lol. I hope I am in some of those videos and pictures and I get to somehow be a part of their history.

I just wanted to say you put that perfectly and I definitely have a ton of respect for you that you can be an introvert and not want to be on Camara but have enough common sense and decency to say those feelings aren't more important than others rights and that you still stand behind him and his rights to film in public. Shame that cop didn't want to identify himself, seriously the only thing I'm concerned about is our rights being respected. I don't care if a cop or security guard is rude or is having a bad day/ doesn't want to talk. You respect our rights and you're a great public servant. He even deescalated somewhat by telling the staff to walk away.
Youre right, they could be friendly and welcoming instead of conspicuous and questioning. Like, once someone tells you they don't need help, just say "alright, let me know if that changes". If I was a public servant, I'd be so welcoming towards people. You are literally our community and there isn't any reason to be any other way.
I’m a little jealous. Every time I walk into a government building, I’ve never been approached by multiple staff asking, can I help you? Not even ONE bloody employee. Silly me, I always thought it was incumbent upon visitors to ASK for help.
I don't know about anyone else every time I'm in a public place I realise anyone could get their mobile phone out or whatever and start filming as long as they don't get right in your face and personal space. Unblelievable how many people and staff don't appear to realise this.

Be honest..... How many of you have worked in a building government or individual owners who have went back and watched recordings in the buildings just to make fun of people? Without names let's just say I know someone who was a corrections officer a few years and a cleaner a few years and has seen office parties watching recordings of some very private situations. Cabins that people rent for vacation...lol... Don't think the eye in the sky is just for the owners protection from burglars! All the boot lickers who put down 1st Amendment auditing and say you're making me uncomfortable just know the auditing is to hold accountability and create awareness! Honestly, Sean. The fact that the cop or whoever he was left you alone was a WIN. He didn’t identify but no reason to badger him. He told the employees to leave you alone too. I feel if you had said, “hey I’m Sean and I’m exercising my rights to take pictures and video in a public facility” in your usual friendly tone, you might have calmed him down. I know it’s not your job to deescalate him but but you are experienced at this and know how to talk them down. Be the pro here and the bigger man, and do some educating. You have done it in the past.
