Hi Maria, No j-trim is necessary on this door as it has a stucco stop. Most residential homes don’t require this metal piece. @@StuccoPlastering Wow, thank you for the response! I have been looking for a tutorial on how to do this repair. After watching your videos and reading this I will give it a go. Great channel...If your were in San Luis Obispo county I would hire you to do the job!
Hi Kirk, after watching about 500 of your videos it's finally time for me to attempt my first stucco repair.. a 4x3' patch over my concrete foundation, up to the threshold of my front door. I had an old set of damaged concrete steps broken up and hauled away. Now I need to patch. I'm wondering if you have any tips for allowing drainage around the door threshold. If water were to get around the door trim and run down the interior flashing, once it hits the sill pan under the threshold, how does it drain to the exterior? If stucco is applied tight to the bottom of the threshold and casing, is water going to be stuck inside? Of course I hope to never have water there in the first place, but shit happens as they say. I've wondered the same about windows. We do all this work to flash it properly, but if water does end up in there, how does it drain out? Any last minute door detail wisdom you can share before my stucco baptism? All the best Kirk!
Howdy Mark, if you feel you might seal the stucco but trap water in somehow, attach a weep or drip screed at the bottom. These screeds are designed to allow any rainwater that happens to get into a sealed stucco finish to exit as the metal screed have holes at the bottoms, Google, "weep or drip screeds.👨🏻🔬
I really appreciate the clarification above. I have seen all your videos, they are so helpful! Is there a chance you may add more information about installing a stucco stop when the door is custom made out of mahagony? Can that stucco stop be made by the carpenter? Do you just screw the stucco stop to the frame? Thanks.
I do wished I had that Santa Barbara finish on my home but I'm in Alabama. I dont like how California has turned too but I am glad i moved out to Alabama.
