I turn 60 next month, I was on the school bus when I heard Elvis had died, I got off the bus and ran all the way home in tears, only to find my mother on the kitchen floor sobbing. This song was my favourite then and has been my entire life. it will be my funeral song when my times comes. No entertainer has ever touched the hearts and souls of people like Elvis did. I miss him. ( From Australia )
My best friend didn't get her birthday because Elvis died that day. Her mother made her move out so she could make Sherrie's bedroom into a shrine for Elvis. P.S. I saw him twice. 73 and 74! 3rd row the second time!! WONDERFUL!!!!!!
@thethinkingman9338 just reading your comment, has me all choked up. I can’t imagine being in that moment even now after all these years later. He left such a lasting impression on the world and still continues to do so. Happy Birthday.
Yes i remember vividly that day it was so sad to ear that almost everyone i knew weep for Elvis,oh and by the way i was in Italy then and I I’m 60 too, now every time i ear him i remember that and appreciate him more then ever.
I was 5 and getting ready for school in the Netherlands. All of a sudden my dad who had left for work came back home in tears screaming “He is dead. Elvis is dead.” He had heard it on the radio. Immediately he put on the tv to look for news about Elvis and we all cried. 😢
I am 61 now, and I remember that we as a family just came back to Holland from Spain where we were on a holiday that summer, and I heard it on the radio it being announced that Elvis had died that day on august 16th, 1977. I felt suddenly a deep sadness in me that I could not describe. It was the first and only time ever that I cried for an artist
Elvis was a gift from God. The Greatest Performer and Singer of our time. There will never be another like him, ever!
And here we are in 2024 still listening!
Elvis. Absolutely 💯. Amazing. There. Will. Never. Be. Another. I. Like. Him. Absolutely. Never 😢. Thank. You. For. Sharing. God. Bless 😊❤
The world seems to stand still when Elvis sings.
Ain't it the truth?!!
World population in 1973 was 3.9 Billion people and Elvis had 1.5 Billion watching this concert which is almost half the planet.
Isn't he just incredible. No one will ever come anywhere close to Elvis, the absolute Master of his craft.
only elvis could sound this fantastic
I saw Elvis in concert 6 times and watched the Aloha special on tv in 1973. He was an incredible performer who played to his audience. I don’t think he ever really understood why he was so loved. His beautiful voice was with him until the end. Real Elvis fans still miss him.
6 times you’re so lucky.. Biggest regret in my life is not seeing Elvis in concert. 😭
@Becky D * I find it so sad that Elvis always thought he would be forgotten. If he only knew!
When God created Elvis, he lingered on him.🙏
Agreed. I saw him live twice. 1972 and 1976 Virginia.
He will always be the best😇😇😇
Good points you made. Welcome to the Elvis rabbit hole. You're in for the greatest ride in musical history.
I love that - the Elvis rabbit hole! Enabled by You Tube. I have had many sleepless nights thanks to chasing Elvis around RUclips😍😍😍😑😑
More people watch this than man landing on the moon this was incredible concert my god you could not take your eyes off this man.
Elvis always my favorite
I suggest you watch the Elvis movie. It's phenomenal.
It's also really important to note that there's no such thing as AutoTune in 1973. This is just Elvis' incredible vocal performance live, on stage, with no post production studio enhancements.
Elvis was bigger than life! Greatest performer there ever was or will be and no one will ever come close to him. Elvis was the total package, his looks, stage presence, and charisma is unmatched. He is 🔥 ❤❤❤❤❤
If it hadn't been for Elvis, so many who followed after might not exist. John Lennon said: "If there hadn't been an Elvis, there wouldn't have been The Beatles."
@Sharon Jensen Lennon also said "before Elvis, there was nothing ".
Elvis has left us with the most exciting muscial and social history Thank you Elvis for all you have left Lindyzing
Missing Elvis every day. I think he gave us all he had for as long as he could.
Elvis, there is a reason why he was called the King !
I was 16 and had never paid much attention to Elvis. I was listening to Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and such. My sister and I watched the Aloha From Hawaii at her house. We both just looked at each other and said "what have we been missing all of these years?" From then on, Elvis was everything. We saw him in concert in Atlanta not long before his passing. Great reaction! No matter how many times I hear this song, it sends chills all over me and brings tears to my eyes. Elvis was the best, and I will never forget the day he passed. I remember exactly what I was doing when the news came across the television. RIP Elvis. We love you.
Led Zeppelin were big fans of Elvis. When they met him, they were so starstruck.
This should be required viewing for anyone desiring to be a performer. Vicki
You have elevated that event to the historical rank it belongs in the history of global communication. A confident Elvis performed for the world.
And now you understand why he is known as "The King"? 👑
A beautiful man with a beautiful soul. They’ll never be another .
Obviously, Elvis had a magnificent voice but let's not forget the world-class musicians that were playing with him and those amazing backup vocals. With a combination like that you pretty much had to have a magical end product. Elvis had many smash hits but to my mind where he really excelled was when he sang gospel music, and I don't think anyone ever sang gospel better than he did. I loved the fact that many times he was told that he could not sing a gospel song when he made a TV appearance (on the Ed Sullivan Show, for instance) and he would do it anyway. He had promised his mother that he would sing at least one gospel song in every concert or appearance, and he wasn't about to break his word to his mother because some little pipsqueak like Ed Sullivan told him he couldn't do it. What was Ed going to do? Refuse to have ELVIS on his show? I don't think so.
I am from Memphis Tennessee and as a deputy I had the privilege of working his funeral. He was the kindest, most personable man I’ve ever met. His favorite music was gospel. He would come and spend time with deputies because he loved law enforcement. His badge collection is hugh and he even wrote and got an appointment to see President Nixon and received one from him. He would just go up to a person and give away cars, from a deputy to a couple looking for one at the car lot. The first song I ever sang was Love Me Tender and I had such a crush on him. People come here from all over the world to celebrate his birth and death anniversaries. Now droves are coming to morn Lisa Marie’s death as she will be buried at Graceland, along his side ( his daughter). He had the whole package, sing, dance, looks and personality. What else you ask for?
Wow❤
Elvis himself was rumored as saying after he left the stage to this concert, that it ‘ Was the best thing he ever did!”
God’s man
Elvis NEVER forgot or took for granted his fans. He put his whole self into every performance. In this one, between those horns and the kettle drums and his Intensity, make a perfect performance. It literally gives chills every time I see it and I've seen it a thousand times. Thank you for the reaction. I love it when young reacters take the time to go back and show respect to the great ones who paved the path for us today.
You are welcome, thank you for being here and enjoying it with me. This is what its all about.
I was one of 7 children. My parents worked/sacrificed to provide for us. It was 1973 & my dad finally bought the family a color TV. My classmates, more fortunate, had color TV way earlier than me. Being a young teenage Elvis fan, I couldn't wait to watch this Elvis-Aloha from Hawaii Satellite Concert on our new color TV. When I saw him perform in his patriotic American Eagle, red, white, & blue jumpsuit on my new color TV, I knew I was witnessing something historic that I would remember the rest of my life. You brought back fond memories of my youth & The King, Salvo. Thank you. 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
Elvis es irrepetible irresistible irritablemente de talentoso carismático misterioso humilde amado y admirado eternamente
I did watch this live in 73. I was 2 years out of the Navy. It was and still is haunting. I have tears every time I hear Elvis sing this. It reminds me that the cost of freedom has always been blood.
"The world's biggest rock star", more like the world's first megastar. There was nothing before him, nobody to guide him, he was alone in that level of fame.
To put it into perspective, a TV audience of 1.5bn people watched that LIVE (minus the US - it clashed with the superbowl), that's 42% of TV's on this planet tuned into that concert... that's every THIRD person on Earth. Nobody has done it since, nobody else could pull that off so skillfully. His value and talent deserved that opportunity and the magnitude of it matched his charisma. Gives me goosebumps, and I'm from England.
This man's talent and name must never die. To think he left this life believing nobody would remember him. Aloha was 50 years ago, I'm 48 and just introducing Elvis to my 11 year old and 6 year old. Long live the King.
I saw this concert on TV when I was 13. When Elvis walked out on stage my first reaction was “damn! That’s the coolest dude I’ve ever seen.” Then he opened his mouth. All these years later, I still think he’s the coolest dude I’ve ever seen. It’s the return of the King folks. You’ll find out.
Elvis was and still is the man
The fact that this is live and there was no auto tune during his lifetime. He had everythingy voice, looks, charisma. He will never be replaced. thank you
Just one of those rare people who had it, in spades. The magnetism he had in everything he did was just legit. Imagine the weight of walking around with that kind of adoration? He had 4 years left here, and it didn't even show yet.
This was the very first concert ever to be broadcast World Wide via Satellite.
Was a smashing, huge success.
I bet anyone who was actually there would have felt lucky. When I visited Hawaii in 2011, one tour guide said he turned down the opportunity to go. I remember thinking: "Why? You went to see Jimi Hendrix, why wouldn't you go and see the King perform live?" If my mother had been there at the time, she certainly wouldn't have. As it was, she watched the concert on TV here in Australia with her husband and her toddler daughter (me). Not that I remember much, but Mum told me I got excited over the music.
Just The king
I'm 43 years old and a lifelong Elvis fan since a baby and this song gives me goosebumps every time I hear it to this day. Always has and probably always will. Elvis is the King for a reason. Over 1.6 Billion records sold worldwide and counting!!
…Elvis was the FIRST and BEST! ...Elvis is the only singer most people know or have known! ... No singer is as known/famous/popular worldwide as Elvis and has been for almost 70 years!! ...His charisma is still unsurpassed to this day!! ... A singer for eternity!! ✨💎✨🕺🏻🕯 Thank you
What's super sad is that it wasn't long after this that those haunting lyrics were true... "All my trials Lord,.. soon be over."
This concert was unbelievably great because of his voice, the arrangement, and his backup. But he felt this so deeply as he sang, that it's emotionally staggering.
It’s hard to imagine now, but Elvis was a member of our families. We loved him and watched everything he did and always wanted more, more, more. We literally loved him to death, but how could you help yourself? He was a gift.
No, I can imagine it now. I am 45 and after seeing the Elvis movie, I watched all his movies, read 10 books, looked at all his concert films and documentaries...downloaded all the songs... I feel like he is my long lost brother I never had. So does my husband.
It is hard to imagine, for sure, I try and transport myself to that time and think about how everyone would think and feel. It is hard to do, but sometimes it helps me imagine the impact of these songs and artists.
He is still family
@@bemerson7883 yes he is. 💙
Elvis is perfect, there Will never be one again. Your voice, your dance, your beauty.
I remember watching that live. It was definitely anticipated. If you were out shopping, or whatever, everyone was talking about getting home in time to watch this concert. The number of people around the world watching was about one quarter of the earth's population. Can you imagine? One fourth of the world's population dropping what they were doing to watch one man sing. That's beyond incredible.
It was another first for Elvis. He was the first to perform a concert televised worldwide. In his "Comeback Special" he was the first to go "unplugged" (perform acoustic versions of his songs) before a TV audience. If it hadn't been for Elvis, "MTV Unplugged" wouldn't have existed.
I watched it too
Yep I remember it well just like it was yesterday
@@sharonjensen3016 * Let's not forget that Elvis was also the first to have what they now call a "residency" performance in Las Vegas!
I was 13 when this concert Aloha from Hawaii was aired in 1973 and honestly I wasn’t familiar with Elvis at that time. My classmate called me and asked me if I was watching Elvis. So I turn on my little 12” b&w TV and was immediately in awe of what I was seeing on TV. I had to see Elvis in color so I ran to our living room and rudely changed the channel on our 25” color TV from whatever my parents were watching to Elvis. OMG Elvis was even more stunning in Color! after watching this show I instantly became a lifelong Elvis fan. His looks, his jumpsuit and his incredible voice. Only Elvis could pull off a TV concert being broadcasted live via satellite to forty countries and viewed by over a billion people. I was so fortunate in 1976, I saw Elvis in person.
The amazing thing about EP and this performance in general, is that this type of song was frowned upon. Yet he did it anyway. And he performed it in a secular setting. To hear the crowd erupt in cheers and applause was truly breathtaking. We didn't know what we were watching as kids, we were 5 and 6. It wasn't until much later that the impact was realized, especially after his passing. Now his daughter Lisa with whom I share memories and many similarities, is no longer with us. It is still unfathomable to me. May she have reached Heaven, and experience everlasting peace in the comfort of Our Father, and her Daddy E! ❤ ✝ ✌ 💐
One of the best performances Ever. I’m 70 and I was watching that night. You just can’t imagine the feelings. Just PRICELESS. Wish you would dive into his music. There will never be an entertainer like Elvis Again. You have to watch If I Can Dream. It’s a tribute to Martin Luther King, Robert Kennedy and just about what was going on in the 60’s
I saw him in concert twice, Elvis was the best and he had the best around him.
We want much more Elvis, great reaction.
He was and still is the greatest of all times. I saw him live twice 1975 and 1977. I went to Graceland 1997 and it was great. Love him still to this day. He accomplished more than any other singer. Thanks for your reaction.
A lot of myths have grown around this show, it was broadcast live to many Countries in the far east, and yes, was a tremendous ratings success. However, it was not broadcast live in the United States as the date clashed with Superbowl VII. It was edited and songs inserted and eventually broadcast as a 90 minute " special " by NBC on April 4th 1973, and gained a 57% audience share.
The double Album of the show has been certified Platinum 5 times over in the US, 3 times in Canada and twice in the United Kingdom & Australia. A DVD re-release in 2006 topped the UK Music DVD charts. The jumpsuit & cape are now on display at Graceland. The gentleman who played the flute solo, was Gabe Balthazaar, a legendary Jazz " Sax & Flute " player from Hawaii, who played with a lot of the Jazz greats. He died in June this year at the age of 92.
Nobody can top him
Gabe did a great job. RIP -- A career-topping memorable solo for a legendary performer.
I've viewed a few people react to this masterpiece of musical history and they just don't get it,I have viewed this performance many many times and every single time it gives me loss of oxygen
I was in my 20’s and my entire family watched it together. It was phenomenal. I remember trying to comprehend all the world watching at SAME time. Each different time zone knew what there time was. It was overwhelming.
it's really something else, when you think about it. Thanks for sharing.
I was also in my 20's. Watched it with my mother and brother on a small color tv 11:03
he was gifted.
Goosebumps everytime when I listen to this song. THE KING 👑
This was seen by more people then the moon landing.
As an eleven year old, lying in the floor while our family watched this broadcast, we were all in tears after this performance. Even as a child, not knowing what the song was really about, you felt the emotions in each note. I'm from Tennessee, and I've never known my life without Elvis' influence. His songs still ring true with the same emotion. ♥
ONLY Elvis! 💕💕💥💥💥💥💕💕 Thank you for this video!
I did watch it live in 1973. It was fantastic. He was and still is the greatest performer ever.
Absolutely Love Elvis
You said you don't know much about Elvis but from now on try to listen more Elvis music and you wil enter a new world of enchantment and beauty.
If you ever wonder why we call him KING, now you know, NOBODY can come close to this MAN. KING ELVIS
I listen/watch to this performance of American Trilogy by Elvis multiple times during the year and it never fails to hit me right in my heart and bring a tear to my eye. Elvis was a once in human history gift from God.. never again will you see or hear the likes of him. Mold broken.. TCB ⚡️
I was eight when this aired and you are correct, my mom, grandmother, aunties and cousins all gathered around the TV to watch this epic performance. You may be aware, this trilogy is in reference to the civil war. Dixie represents the South, the Battle Hymn of the Republic was the song of the North, and I heard someone say that All My Trials is from the slaves point of view. But in my opinion, in this medley, it represents the soldiers on both sides.
This song was written before the Civil War. More verses were added after the war started
Thanks for sharing this, I bet everyone was glued to the screen. Really awesome memory.
@@cindyphifer970 “This song”, An American Trilogy, did not exist prior to the Civil War. The 3 songs (hence, “Trilogy”) it’s made up of did. Combining verses of the 3 songs was done by Micky Newbury in 1971 & 1st recorded by him. Elvis began singing it in 1972 & modified it slightly, by reprising the 3 songs at the end.
Elvis was the most patriotic American ever. He truly loved his country.
Once every 500 years god drops an angel on earth..amazing
I was 20 years old, my whole family watched it. I was so excited I couldn't take my eyes away from it, just perfect.
I was 12 years old when this was aired. For weeks in advance, parents in our area cleared their schedules, bought new televisions, set up in home recording devices and got everything ready so that there would be absolute silence and no distractions. Us kids just played along because the only cool part to us was that this was being beamed into outer space and back down again. Anyhow... I didn't watch it. I wasn't really interested and was hanging out with friends all evening. Nobody ever anticipated that there would be an album released and thought it was a "watch it or regret it" type of deal. and so they did! Every family we knew, at home, sitting quietly, watching history being made. Locally, in Hawaii, the concert never even started until 12:30 AM so that people on the U.S. east coast would view is at 6:30 PM EST (9:30 on the west coast), right after rush hour and supper. The performance ran for an hour and a half.
I'm 55 yrs old. I got to see Elvis live in concert in 1975, I was only 6 but It's always stayed with me. I will never forget it❤❤
About a minute in, there’s a moment when this chap realises he is watching something very special, and he is roped in to what we have all known for decades. Priceless!
...get this: in all the concerts he put on in Las Vegas, he NEVER had an empty seat....some women would buy tickets for ALL the concerts so they wouldn't be left out! I happened to be working the phones at the Memphis Fire Dept dispatch office on 8/16/1977...Graceland called for an ambulance stat....when they said they were transporting to Baptist Hosp(we knew Elvis was in town)we thought it might be him. within 3 hrs we were getting calls from around the world wanting particulars.
The Man Pure Raw Talent no Auto Tune or Equalizer. He did it by Him Self.
One of my all-time favorite live Elvis performances of a very iconic song. The best live version of Trilogy, in my opinion, if only because the flute solo was PERFECT, different from the 1972 version where the flutist was not half as good as this gentleman was. LOVE it!
The flute bit brings me to tears everytime. Just amazing
I’ve heard this all my life, but was way too young to remember this performance. It really is phenomenal.
I remember putting the DVD on for my twin nephews when they were small, and they weren't sure what to make of it. "What's this?" About the only music by Elvis they'd heard was the gospel recordings. They did like the video of "Wooden Heart" where Elvis sings to a puppet.
Elvis can leave you speechless, right? I watched it with my family when I was 33 years old. I went to a couple of live concerts too. He was "electric".
Please react to more Elvis. This concert, aloha from Hawaii is amazing, so many good songs. Please react to more from this concert. One of my favs is steamroller.
It was a song to God and a billion people saw it and heard it. Powerful! Acknowledgement of God. You will never see it again.
Maybe we will, have you seen Pastor Bob Joyce sing American Trilogy?
Yes we watched this live it was unbelievable THE Elvis live on tv and this song just made your soul explode
Great reaction! Hauntingly beautiful, powerful, iconic...that about sums it up. Everytime I see this performance I get emotional.
I remember it well. What a moving show and his powerful voice. It rocked my heart and soul. Thank you for showing and reacting to Elvis.
My aunt cried for 2 weeks straight when he died. She still has an unspent concert ticket for him at Louisville Gardens concert venue in Louisville, Kentucky. He never made it there.
I can watch Elvis very minute, very hour, very day, even it's repeat after repeat ❤
Amazing! He was singing to all of us but he was singing to God. Touching!
I watched the live performance in 73. It was unbelievable
The live performance of If I Can Dream from the 68 Comeback Special may be his greatest performance. He put everything he had into it as a tribute to MLK and RFK who had been assassinated right before filming. Col. Tom Parker wanted a Christmas song and Elvis insisted on this song. A rare time he went against what Parker wanted.
I was another of those kids who was sitting cross legged on the living room floor, three feet from the TV 📺 watching this very intently. I was 14, and a casual fan of Elvis, because what I had grown up with was mostly his gospel music and ballads that my mom and grandmother played. His 1968 comeback tour showed me that Elvis could rock out a bit too. This show cemented (for me) that Elvis was the consummate performer, The King of Rock&Roll, hell, maybe the King of the world at that point. ♥️✌🏼😎
I can get a grasp for what an amazing performer he was just by seeing him on stage. It resonates.
My favourite Elvis song
I could not have asked for a better reaction of my Elvis! Thank you 😊
My mom watched this concert everyday after he passed. Got goosebumps and tears. He was perfection and everyone on that stage make magic together!! Thank you for your genuine reaction. Check out 68 Comeback Special in black leather sitting down Lawdy Miss Clawdy and in white suit If I Can Dream
You can't go wrong with any live Elvis performances between 1968 at the Comeback Special to the Aloha From Hawaii concert in 1973, and EVERYTHING in between. There's plenty of classic Presley music from the '50's and most of the '60's too of course but the King was at his performing and vocal peak in that '68-'73 period, in my opinion.
"If I Can Dream", "Suspicious Minds", "Bridge Over Troubled Water", "Polk Salad Annie", "Just Pretend", "You've Lost That Loving Feeling", "How Great Thou Art" and "Steamroller Blues" should get you going in the right direction.
The crescendo brings tears to my eyes every time... That powerful voice is just one of a kind... Saw him in concert in Philly at The Spectrum...Wonderful experience...If you ever get to Memphis, go to Graceland for the tour.
I was nine years old when this concert aired. My mom had gone out for the evening and my babysitter let me stay up past my bedtime to watch it. I still remember being awestruck by the entire show.
I've stressed the magnitude of this performance to people recently. They seem to not understand the gravitas of what Elvis had done. Legendary.
This concert was a free concert to raise money for children's cancer. Elvis mentions in the concert how much they made for the cause. He was not only an awesome performer but an awesome person. Check out more of his "68 Comeback Special. That was Elvis at his best. The most handsome man who ever lived! I remember the day he died. I was so devasted because I would never get to marry him 😪💔
My mom and dad took me with them to see E on New Years Eve 1975 at the Pontiac Silverdome. I was only 10 but had a sense of the greatness I was seeing. That turned out to be the largest live audience he ever played in front of!!! Thank you Dad! Yes, I do remember where I was 2 and a half years later....
I really appreciated your reaction. I was always
An Elvis fan because I was born in 1952. Watching this Aloha version always makes me tear up. I came
From Three generations of
Elvis fans. He was like a family member to us. It is hard to explain how Elvis just made people love him! I haven’t heard any other performer who touched people the way he did. Looking forward to more Elvis. My other favorite is The Moody Blues. They were popular during this same time and still perform today. Question would be a good one from the 2000 PBS special! Thanks!
Very nice reaction. This man is still loved worldwide. Please react to Elvis singing Bridge over Troubled Water live in Las Vegas 1970. Phenomenal voice and talent. Thank you.🥇⚡
SalvoG that's Elvis Presley the King. Great reaction but you must react to the all concert was amazing.
Great reaction and merry christmas
Excellent review man. You totally got it.
The entire concert is outstanding.
The audio version of “It’s Only Love” is another great Elvis song, I will post a link below. Please react (if possible).
Thanks & Merry Christmas, from a very cold Northern Ireland . 🎅☘️🎄🙏🏻

Such a beautiful artist singing a beautiful song. The Aloha From Hawaii concert is a great showcase of Elvis and his brilliance. I was 11 years old in 1973 when I watched this live broadcast with my family and was in awe even at that age. Absolutely amazing. Your reaction is wonderful.
I still get goosebumps from the power of his voice
This song is the story of the American Civil War! To begin the trilogy, you have the Confederate Battle Hymn or DIXIE, next is the Northern Battle Hymn or Battle Hymn of the Republic, and lastly is the soldier dying in a battle! It is a fantastic reminder of a painful time in America's history! ELVIS was born and raised until he was 14 in Tupelo, Mississippi, which he loved and kept property in an adjoining County until he died. He was very proud of being SOUTHERN! He was absolutely phenomenol in this song! Thank you for a wonderful reaction! ❤
Yeah, this is one of his greatest performances and shows. One of my favorites. I saw it on TV way back in 1973, when I was 19 years old. Will never forget it. I watch this video at least once a year. Great reaction by you 👍🏻🥰‼️
