    Locktite blue or red would be a better product for the outside of the seal to keep it in... IMO

      Okay, thanks. So far the RTV is holding up fine.

      You do have to replace these seals on a regular basis, maybe as much as even every year or so in some cases, so I would be cautious with what you use in there, because you'll be doing it again soon

    I think I would’ve let the RTV dry before I push the seal in. It would’ve formed a gasket type material and would’ve fit tighter because being pushed in like that and wet. It takes a long time.

    Problems with grease seals falling out of a flexible plastic transaxle housing? What a surprise!

  • @philliphall5198
    @philliphall5198 Год назад

    I have thought about drilling a tiny hole on top of axle housing and put a screw in to the seal just a tad to keep it in and hold in place. ?????
    What do you think about it. ?????😊

    Hey Buck, any new info on how to service that transmission? Maybe a zirk fitting? I know the trans is like $475 new from Amazon but I hate to just replace it if I can keep it going.

    It looked to me as though there were bolt holes on the end of the axle. was there at one time a cover that held the seals in so they wouldn't come out?

      Nope, that's just the way they are made on the RS800

    How did the sealant hold up?

    • @Buckwsr

      It worked perfectly as long as I owned the tractor. Probably still doing a fine job with its new owner.

      @@BuckwsrI agree on the silicone but I’m going to drill down from top and put a screw just a tad into seal and see what happens
      I got several of these trans in 20+ old mowers

      I sold it a few months later, using the tractor once in a while after doing the fix. It was nice and dry as long as I owned it.

      I put a link in the video description to buy the seals on amazon. If you use that link, I'll earn a small commission. Thanks.

    Buck, did u add any grease to the unit before installing new seal? Good video, very informative.

    • @Buckwsr
      @Buckwsr  2 года назад

      I did not add any because 1) I don't know what fluid/grease it requires, and 2) I'm not aware of any fill plug where more can be added. If you have that info, please let me know. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that we caught the leak before losing too much fluid.

      @@luzzija There is a how-to on General Transmission's website. Looks like kind of PITA. They say there is lots extra in the unit and you shouldn't need to add more, but I'm with Buck, I would maybe try packing a little extra in as you set the seals, especially since he blew it all out with brake cleaner.

    Before you put the new seal and all you gotta do is shoot some grease in there that’s all that’s in that transmission

  • @charlesgray3810

    Common sense you don't put plastic on a trans Axsils they got hot and melt.

    • @superswire
      @superswire Год назад

      It's not "plastic" it's a high strength temperature resistant reinforced polymer.

  • @charlesgray3810
    @charlesgray3810 2 года назад

    They need to stop putting cheap parts on a mower again plastic does not hold up to heat.
