I have the 10.5 blue, great boat, no need for a trailer, light, easy to lift, fits in the back of a truck.
It really is a solid kayak. Very maneuverable as well paired with the Mirage Drive
Thank you Sir for the comparison 👊 As always, informative and straightforward 😎 Keep these amazing videos coming 🎉
Thank for watching bro
Thanks for putting this out. Even though I wish it had a 180 drive I think the 12R will be my first Hobie used for saltwater fishing and recreation closer to shore.
Keep in mind that turbo fins can be added and at slower speeds the Passport can turn very tight.
@@thebeardedpaddler good to know. they dnt come with any 'bumper' to help with car top loading though. Right?
@@bobcalifornia9622 no sir
I've looked over the entire hull no serial number. Where is it at on yours
Back left corner and it will be in stippling (dots)
You mentioned that the Mirage Passport 10.5R is rated at 350`lbs. Actually I believe that they are rated at 275lbs.
the seat is rated for 275 and kayak is 325 actually.
Both are the same weight per Hobie specs. 83Lbs fully rigged.
You are correct!
@@thebeardedpaddler Thanks for validating. Looking at kayaks and going through RUclips videos. Thank you for posting. If the old one was lighter by 10 Lbs and at the current discount of about $300 or more below the current version, it would have been my choice.
@@sagishimonovitz Thank you for your feedback and Thank you for watching!
How much does the price go up if you sell it with 180 drive instead?
It only comes with the standard. You would have to purchase the 180 drive separately which really wouldn't be worth it. You can add turbo fins to the standard drive. If you have another Hobie with a 180 drive it plugs right in.
does 'seagrass' cast a reflection, eye glare? thanks
It's a matte finish so It really shouldn't
the material on the thermo bonded older version seemed really light, the Rotomold versions are 10 lbs heavier if I understand correctly?
That's about right yes
@@thebeardedpaddler thnx, local dealer is offering me a 2022 thermoformed at $1500 vs a 2023 rotomolded at $1900, which would you choose? (btw my old thermoformed Pelican with RamX plastic? took a lot of abuse and held up well, but my newer rotomolded Old Town I ve noticed flexes a lot less than the Pelican)
@@CheekyMonkey888 I would go rotomold personally. Easier to repair and will last longer
@@thebeardedpaddler thank you, bought the rotomolded today
@@CheekyMonkey888 that's awesome! Congrats. Hope I helped you in some way to make the right decision. I think you are gonna love it
Is the stability the same for 10.5 vs 12ft?
Slightly better stability on the 12. More boat/more weight capacity
any changes in hull or cockpit design with the R
Not really. Just a more durable construction
Actually there are two things that I can think of: one, it doesn't have the cut out for the rubber mesh pocket add on along the side. Two, the cup holder is different and doesnt have the bungee to hold the cups in. Why in the heck would they not add the pocket cut out for the rubber mesh pockets. It doesn't cost any more to do it.
