In this video I react to a full tour of Madame Tussauds in London. This is the first time I've ever seen a wax museum and I'm shocked at how incredibly life like the figures are.
I can't imagine how much skill it must take to create such realistic wax figures. Madame Tussauds has a ton of wax sculptures, everyone from Hollywood stars to historical icons. That said, my favorite thing about Madame Tussauds London is that it's more than just a wax museum. It seems like an interactive experience that feels like an adventure.
Thanks for watching. If you enjoyed this reaction please give this video a thumbs up, share your thoughts in the comments and click the subscribe button to follow my journey to learn about my British and Irish ancestry.

I went to Madame Tussauds many years ago on a school trip. They had two policemen stood either side of a doorway. I accidently bumped into one of them so I apologised, then the one on the other side started laughing. The one I bumped into was of course made of wax.

The bit where you heard the whistling was the French national anthem because you were entering the bit about the French Revolution. The heads were those of people who had been beheaded. Madame Tussaud came over to London from France after the revolution and set up her waxworks in Baker Street. She had been imprisoned in Paris during the revolution and had been forced to prove her allegiance by making death masks of those executed. Yes there is (was?) a Ripley’s in Shaftesbury Avenue (at the Piccadilly Circus end).

Gosh i cant believe how much it has changed, I went when i was 12 back in 1999 and it was basically just the waxworks placed in different sections, historical, sportspeople, royalty celebrities etc.
It was still pretty fun and the figures were mostly incredible but it seems much more dynamic and interactive now. The chamber of horrors was my favourite so many creepy figures.

Over the years it's become more and interactive. I remember when I first went decades ago it was simply a few rooms with just the figures standing, doing nothing and you could walk through in half an hour. They do change it up quite a lot nowadays with new interactive sections every year or so.

There is videos showing how its done..it takes months of sittings with the Artists....the clothing is usually authentic from the artist..
A clay sculpture is made and 100s of photos taken.. a team of artists then get to work on making the model.....no detail is missed NONE.
single hairs are placed one by one.
Freckles are painted one by one..eyelashes too.. it costs 1000s to make one..
Find TUSSAUDS WAX IN THE MAKING..ITS really awesome..

back in the 90's people kept stealing the waxworks there is even a famous incident of someone walking out carrying one of the exhibits during a holiday rush and no one stopped them. during the heatwaves in the 2000's many of the exhibits actually started melting and they had to shut whilst they attempted to repair the damage.

Marie Tussaud learnt her craft from Dr. Philippe Curtius who made wax replicas of human body parts to visualise human anatomy. She moved to London and started making figures of notable individuals and her infamous Chamber of Horrors included victims of the French Revolution, murderers and criminals.

I've only been to London once and visited Madame Tussaud's in 1981 when I was 10. It was not as interactive as nowadays. I did the prank thing as stood still and a woman looked up close at my face and I laughed. I got a poster to take away which as a ghoulish kid I loved. They took my photo and the poster said I lost my head in London and had a pole like a spike with my face (head) on the top. I loved this and showed it to everybody.

This is a very different Madame Tussand's to the one I visited in 1974. That was very much a series of galleries containing models of various people that were behind barriers that were never to be crossed; and I appreciate this glimpse into what it has become, now that we've worked out the full meaning of interactivity! There has been a tendency to modernise museums and galleries like this, everywhere, but the result is often less than inclusive of older people, who actually want to learn about the objects.

Londoner here - TIP (from years of entertaining friends & relatives when coming to London)... Unless you REALLY want to go and visit, be aware it's EXPENSIVE and the queues are LONG... SO many other things to visit for LESS cost and more time! I'm not being a 'damp squib' - just saying spend money on other things. Also, DON'T waste money on the 'London Eye' either - same reasons EXPENSIVE and LONG waiting times... 😃

Years ago I went to a company Christmas party at Madame Tussauds & we had the run of the place as they hadn't cordoned anything off. I still can't believe no damage was done taking into consideration how much booze was on hand. I haven't been since then so I'm surprised how much more creative detail they've put into making it an amazing experience. It was great then, but this is another level.

I have been here so many times over the years as it changes and new people are added. The cab ride is always there and it’s one of my favourite things as you ride through the history of London with notable historical things. Great fire of London, the plague, the swinging sixties and so on. It’s great. The less child friendly parts are separate and signposted so you can still take your daughter and enjoy while not seeing the scary stuff. I get why you’re saying it’s similar to Ripley’s as it’s very interactive. There is also a Ripley’s in London that I’ve been to many times also and it’s incredible. Both these attractions have locations in New York so seeing as both are so good in London, I thought I’d visit. If anyone is thinking about this, do yourself a favour and skip it. They are not a patch on the London locations. They are both also much smaller in New York and the wax works were questionable. FYI, in the UK it’s one of those things that is very respected. Most celebrities are part of the design process and a lot of the time, the outfit the wax work is wearing is their actual outfit they have worn. They sit and are measured, lots of photos are taken and yes they are hand made. The ones that don’t look the best like Boris is because he more than likely didn’t visit for a sitting to have measurements and so on done. There are many UK documentaries that go behind the scenes of how it’s all done. Give them a watch. ✌🏻 from Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

It would have been "too-SOE" in the original French, but it's been bastardised to "too-SAWDS" for so long that people only ever call it that. I used to enjoy going to it as a kid when I lived in the UK (and even more so, the sadly no-longer operating planetarium that was next door to it). This has become hugely more interactive since then - it looks astonishing! That ride was through the history of London, from the great fire to the swinging sixties.

The level of highly skilled Craftsmen/ women who practice traditional crafts in the UK is unbelievable if you actually go looking for them but like all real craftspeople we are hard to find. One really has to hunt a truly highly skilled person out in the UK politicians and media types will say that skills in the UK are dying out. They couldn't be further from the truth

There was one in Benedorm, Spain, which I found hilarious. Every male had John Wayne’s head and every female had Queen Elizabeth’s head. There is a Madame Tussaud’s in Wuhan, China, on Han Street (a walking only street) I went before the days of covid, I didn’t go inside but there was Bruce Willis stood outside & it was perfect. If we reverse the idea of a celebrity pranking the public by standing in for a waxwork and instead use the waxwork as a stand in for the celebrity, that has been done at least once. Back in 1983 the BBC were producing a special to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the show 'Doctor Who'. It was to feature the current Doctor (Peter Davison) and his four predecessors (with William Hartnell, who had already died, being replaced by another actor--Richard Hurndall). Unfortunately, Tom Baker, who had played the fourth incarnation of the Doctor, didn't want to be involved. Luckily enough, the BBC had some unused footage that they could splice in to explain his absence and for the publicity shoots... they borrowed the waxwork of Tom from Madame Tussauds for some group shots!

The guide said he met the real Darth Vader. David Charles Prowse MBE (1 July 1935 - 28 November 2020) was an English actor, bodybuilder, strongman and weightlifter. He portrayed Darth Vader (voiced by American actor James Earl Jones) in the original Star Wars trilogy and a manservant in Stanley Kubrick's 1971 film A Clockwork Orange.

Madame Tussaud made her name making wax models of the heads of executed nobles in the French Revolution. The House of Horrors is her most famous creation.

I realised how good madam Tussaud’s was when you see inferior copies around the world, the one on amazon Top gear was hilarious when Clarkson stole the idol of Nigel Mansel former F1 champion .. the one in Blackpool was quite awful when I visited in the 80’s .. the only interactive thing was the vandalism haha !

The "Madame" word is pronounced "madam", the English way.
"Tussaud's" is pronounced "two swords" or "t' swords" with the accent usually more on the "swords".

There used to be a Christopher Reeve in there, in his wheelchair next to his own younger self as Superman, that was cool for me... They update and add/get rid of the wax people in there, too, it's not like this for years, of course. I wonder how it is now after the coronation of King Charles...

Just to say you don't have to go all the way to London to find Madame Tussauds. Madame Tussauds is one of the many attractions in sunny Blackpool, a great seaside resort on our North West coast.
