The transition from LoZ to SMB at 6:47 is very clever. The guy plays the recorder melody from the original LoZ, which is also the same flute melody from SMB3
I love to see this kind of thing. It's not about the supposed novelty of VGM people played live; it's about great arrangements and wonderful performances. Excellent!

ゲーム音楽はおろか、ゲーム自体興味がありませんが、こういう演奏には大変興味があります。

西洋音楽は教会と共に発展したと考えると、これほど演奏に適した場所は中々ない。
日本は何せ風土が風土ですからね……外部と遮断して固有の空間を作ろうって方向性は真逆と言って良い(笑)
勿論何が演奏に適するのか、何が醍醐味かどうかも音楽文化によりけりでしょうけど……音楽の選曲も含めて和洋折衷で面白いですよね（ゲーム自体は日本のですけど、音楽は西洋の理論の上なので）。
理屈はあれど、思いつくかどうかは別なのでやっぱり凄いと思います(笑)
