I'm certain that even just watching key series: Balatro, Isaac, SAP, Backpack Battles, Darkest Dungeon, Slay the Spire, and maybe Gungeon, Misc., etc. it would take you multiple days even at 2x speed. Let's assume for a moment you watch 40 hours a week, literally as much as a full-time job, and each series is 100 hours on average (probably low for most of those), that's 5 weeks to finish 2 old series, and during that time he's made more than 125 hours of new content. Let's say for sake of simplicity that consuming all of the streams means those series won't get longer. This leaves 15 hours a week for old content. You would take 20 weeks to finish 3 old series. And this is a pretty low estimate imo. And that is one creator. I'm not a 2x guy myself, but mathematically I can understand why people do it.

Serious answer: Honestly, there are a good deal of things that I will watch at 1.0x, it really depends on how much I want to consume it. Like, if I'm watching something for background noise, 2x makes it easy for me to not listen too hard and just let it play out, but if I'm watching something to either pay attention or to remember a bit more, or to listen to it a bit more attentively, I absolutely will watch at 1x. It's less of for maximizing time, as while I have more time if I watch it in 2x, I feel that really, it's like "Are they just playing something like Stardew, and I just want to have a general good time" vs "I want to watch the bit itself or understand this recipe or concept". Sometimes, letting it play at 1x will make me focus a bit more, and sometimes I want to turn my brain off a bit, which can make 2x nice. Edit: Oh, and since I forgot to bring it up, sometimes I use a long-ish video (like, 1-2 hours), and say that this is the last thing I do on RUclips before doing something productive, so it is sometimes nice to finish it, and then have a bit more time to work, as the deadline to start is simply when I finish the video.

They've had their brain washed to the point that they think consuming content for leisure is a required activity. Only way I can imagine 2x... I think back to watching some anime when I was a kid that had 1000 episodes like Bleach or something. I would skip 'filler'. Maybe this is the mindset? But, when a person is improving the whole time, how do you predict the filler and or care anyway when making the decision to consume this content... Yeah, I think I don't get 2x people either after all
I'm a 2x watcher, but I guess the main reason is why not. I can perfectly comprehend the content at that speed. I don't think it's that crazy. You could go from the other side and say "why yes" but at that point 2x vs 1x becomes a simple personal preference because there aren't many arguments for either side.
@@art0007i For all the 2xers out there... I hope you find something you enjoy enough that you want to watch it in 1x just so you have more time with the content. May your journey towards conditionalization be fruitful.
currently watching this on 2x speed because im catching up on 10 months of library/nl (synonymous for me) content because i took a break from it back in august and i felt like i cant watch the new stuff without being caught up because of references (and because i know there are many classics that happened in those 10 months). the reason for the break was i had little time i think for yt in general and because of the need to catch up i put library/nl off for a while until i got fully adjusted to not watching anymore and the work needed to catch up rose by the day so i never gotten around since. but the egg called me ..
my rule of thumb = yt 2x because it doesnt sound right anymore without it, anime and other artistic media normal. that covers about everything there is to watch!
Ryan missed a small point about lectures vs entertainment; lectures are often about information transferal, and humans can process information pretty quickly so you can quite often go 1.5x or 2x (especially when instructors talk slowly!). Entertainment is about enjoying the moment, and so speeding up is detrimental to the experience. Case in point: Part of my enjoyment of Ryan's content is his radio-voice. If I sped it up, a large part of the point in watching it is lost. But if watching a video tutorial on this that or the other where the narrator has little charisma, please just get the info into my brain quickly. Sure, it takes time to process information, but you can easily pick up when information is valuable enough to be processed. There's a lot of fluff.
I’d watch college lectures at 1.5x speed it really does make up for any dawdling on the professors part but isn’t so fast that you lose what’s going on, if I’m watching something in my free time idk the motive of watching anything sped up
Yo, I was the one from this stream who wrote the really long defense of 2x speed watching, only for him to say he wasn't gonna read it. I saved it by saying that my real opinion was that I just liked it more. He immediately read that response. Easy appeal to a 90s-maxer. Jokes on him. I'm watching this video on 2x speed right now. Also, for the record, I never adjust the speed of any music I listen to or any shows or movies that I watch. I only watch super long RUclips content at 2x speed. Stuff like stream vods, podcasts, or video essays that should've been edited down more. I would say anything 1 hour or longer. Sometimes I might watch a 30 min video at 2x if I'm in a hurry. A note on that: There are some really good video essays out there, but a lot of video essayists are just making their videos longer for no reason. Not sure why there's been such a shift, but some people make 3 hour long videos that could've easily been half as long. Doubling the speed makes it a lot more tolerable. Also, some people just talk really slowly, so having the increased speed can help. Occasionally, I do feel like a crazy person for watching at 2x speed, but I don't really think it's that odd. I disagree that this is anywhere close to brainrot or being deranged or any of the other things that some of the weird comments on this video are saying. As a content creator myself, I don't really care if anyone were to watch my stuff at 2x speed unless I made music. Brother, I just like it more.

I’m cooked man, when he was saying “2x RUclips son” I was parsing it in the context of “2x bimpy 3x bape”
Do people not just stop the video when they need to do something and watch more of it later? I thought that was normal.
Same here.
currently watching this on 2x speed because im catching up on 10 months of library/nl (synonymous for me) content because i took a break from it back in august and i felt like i cant watch the new stuff without being caught up because of references (and because i know there are many classics that happened in those 10 months). the reason for the break was i had little time i think for yt in general and because of the need to catch up i put library/nl off for a while until i got fully adjusted to not watching anymore and the work needed to catch up rose by the day so i never gotten around since. but the egg called me ..
my rule of thumb = yt 2x because it doesnt sound right anymore without it, anime and other artistic media normal. that covers about everything there is to watch!
There's a lot of fluff.
honestly it sounds completely insane until you start doing it
I’d watch college lectures at 1.5x speed it really does make up for any dawdling on the professors part but isn’t so fast that you lose what’s going on, if I’m watching something in my free time idk the motive of watching anything sped up
Yo, I was the one from this stream who wrote the really long defense of 2x speed watching, only for him to say he wasn't gonna read it.
Amusing ourselves to death, but at 3.5x speed
2.4x got them extensions to go even further beyond (there are a few I use Video Speed Controller)
Watching at 2x speed to counteract the DMT
Chatter: * Makes reference to 2x Pimpy *
NL: * 10 minute rant about watching things at 2x speed *
12:32 I was not ready for this bomb to be dropped lmfao
Shoulda rendered this at 0.5x speed to counter the 2x watchers.
iirc youtube can masrk you with a strike for doing this by manipulatingf the meta data to make it seem like you get more play time and retetnion.
Type A viewers when someone tells a joke:
i occasionally paused this video to laugh when he said funny things so i wouldnt miss if he talked more
i crank up my computer's clock speed and play slop video games at 2x speed
Broke: 1x
Omega broke: 2x
Woke: Watching the same video at 2x speed twice back to back to maximize knowledge absorption
