Oh Dr Chong!!!!!! She was my dentist when she was still in CBD. She was the least intimidating dentist I have even seen! I actually used to looked forward to my dental appointment.
Love these type of series that reveals about jobs!! So much to learn about the topic and about the job itself. Thank you! Im scared of dentists... But I like going to the NUH dentistry students. They were kind and gentle. :)
Quite the contrary for me, went to NUH to pull all 4 of my wisdom tooth (2 sessions). First session was okay. But the second session was a nightmare, i think due to lack of anesthesia, not only can i feel that my upper tooth being extracted. While he was cutting my bottom tooth into smaller pieces before extracting, he somehow cut my upper lips without realising. I literally have to groan to signal to him to stop as i felt sawing pain on my lips. I still remember what he said as if it is not a big deal. End of the day, i ended up with stitching on my gums and my lips....
lmao JP jitao cannot tahan when Jared mentioned beard transplant 😂 Edit: Dental story 1: Used to have an in-house dentist in pri sch, but didn't have one since sec sch, so I didn't visit the dentist until I could afford it after I started working. First dentist I went to was a guy, for a standard consult plus scaling and polishing, and he went ham with the scaling(?) job (might be polishing, or scaling, I don't know, he was using that motorized pen with a bur, there's a comfortable bur and there's a super uncomfortable, aggressive one, and I'm talking about the uncomfortable one. They might be the same polishing procedure with different burs as well. So yea, imagine the uncomfortable bur, and going ham on ur teeth, he did it so hard I could feel the grind as though they were on my raw nerves, such that I can feel it in my back or spine. Naturally I told him that it felt too uncomfortable. The next door lady dentist overheard, came in and told him that she will take over. Had been a regular with her ever since. Dental story 2: So same lady dentist, and as usual, there was an assistant helping her, but this time round, I don't recognize the assistant. The new assistant laid a blue dental bib over my face with only an opening for my mouth. As usual, the assistant would stick the irrigation spray into my mouth, along with a vacuum bubble tea straw to draw out the water. The previous assistant did such a good job at vacuuming the water that I did not expect what was coming with this new assistant. This time round, the vacuuming wasn't done just in time, and a little water started collecting at the back of my throat. The stray splashes of the water from the irrigation spray also began wetting the paper bib, and slowly the wet paper bib sagged down onto my nose. First waterboarding experience in a dental clinic. I panicked and put my hands up and waved to signal to my dentist that I cannot breathe, so she quickly stopped what she was doing and propped up the dental chair while removing the bib. Needless to say, my dentist stopped using the bib on me for that visit. Dental story 3: Same lady dentist, this time round, I had a procedure to remove my wisdom tooth. Gonna spare yall the details, but she spent like a good 30 to 45 mins struggling with my tooth after the local anaesthesia etc. Thereafter, she took an x-ray to show me that the root of my tooth was partially lodged in my jawbone. Tried for another 15 to 20 mins. Subsequently she had to give up and asked her male colleague to help (I dont think he's the first dentist). So.. the male dentist told me to relax, while he find a good grip on the vice. With a twist and a pull, my wisdom tooth came out. This is not a shade on my dentist, forever grateful that she saved me from the potential eternal trauma that could have happened if I endured and stuck with the first dentist. Just sharing some interesting experiences I had.
FYI - don't brush too hard. When your gum recedes it DOESNT grow back!! I kena and too late the exposed teeth arent going to recover. So its sensodyne for the rest of my life. So please tell your kids, and use an electric toothbrush. (Dentist told me not to brush so hard, but didn't tell me the gum won't restore. I thought it was like hair - will grow back)
I am terrified to visit dentist and never went to one for like 15 years until I had a toothache last year and had no choice but to seek help. A slew of problems was unravelled and I did a root canal treatment for that decayed tooth, after a few months of recovery, I got 3 wisdom teeth removed with one already spreading its decay to the molar beside it. Root canal treatment was so painful that I shrunk into the dentist chair a couple of times during the op. On the other hand the most painful part for my wisdom teeth extraction and op was the anaesthesia injection, it was a very morbid feeling. The molar that got infected with decay is now counting it days. I so wished i had taken care of my dental health and not neglected it. I am visiting my dentist regularly now every half yearly, money aside, I still get very fearful like one month before my next appointment. My current dentist is very caring and assuring and when we chat about my fear, I realised it stemmed from my primary school days when some random student walked into my class and everytime my name got called for dental review. And like Dan said, dentist in the olden days were just mean, I never had a good experience at my primary school clinic. Back to my latest dental review, again I did a filling for a decayed tooth, my dentist ask if i liked local anaesthesia, I told her I dont want to feel the repair process, if she can administer GA, i will gladly take it. 2 more weeks and I am going back to make my mouth guard because I am grinding my teeth when I sleep. :/
electric toothbrush is great for me (the round head type) as I tend to gag alot while brushing my teeth using a normal toothbrush. Since using the electric toothbrush, i dont gag anymore or just once or twice in a blue moon. tooth whitening toothpaste is a scam (for me)... used it for 1.5 months straight and I got tooth sensitivity because of the way tooth whitening toothpaste works. Switched back to the normal toothpaste and after a month or so, the tooth sensitivity is gone.
I’ve been living in Italy for more than 20 years and I’ve gotten into the habit of going to the dentist annually for scaling. My fear of going to the dentist stemmed from my childhood in Singapore and that stopped me from seeking dental help until I was in my 30s.
I didn't see a dentist for 10+years because I was afraid of dentists. But this past year decided to face my fears and have visited my dentist for gum treatment. Best decision ever. Edit: JP dying from the beard transplant got me man. After damn long he still laughing hahahaha.
Am I the only person who cannot understand how you brush your teeth, spit, but don't rinse??? Huh?? Then you will still have a lot of toothpaste left in your mouth no?
Havent finish the ep but im gonna ask before i forget, she said cabonated drink corrode teeth but what if like i like spirite but i dont like the gas so i shake out as much as i can and basically drink flat spirite, does it still have as heavy an impact carbonation wise, of coz the sugar is still a problem

Wait till you start using the electric vibrating toothbrush type. Life changing.
A very helpful episode, esp. waiting 30minutes after consuming food to brush. Thumbs up.
We're glad you found it helpful! 👍
laughed about the beard transplant and then laughed even more at JP laughing about the beard transplant 🤣🤣🤣
I like the questions that were asked. Very relatable 👍🏻

Interesting vid! Got to go for regular dental check-ups
Dr Chong is my dentist! 😊 very meticulous and patient with my dental phobia ❤
Which dental clinic is she with?? I might want to get my teeth assess by her seeing how approachable she is haha

you spit, after 30mins u rinse.
Try squeezing toothpaste into the bristles of the toothbrush, not on it. It will release gradually and evenly with minimum wastage (fall off).
I'm still laughing at the beard transplant 🤣😅😅😅😅
