Nice job Mom! More people need to remember the "leave them stoked and wanting more" rule!!

Great advice that most instructors don't teach...it has to be fun! Also let them get used to their ski boots and ensure nothing is rubbing or poking.

After 53 years of teaching people at all levels, here is the best way to teach skiing to people of all ages and levels.
    1. Glide down a shallow slope to get used to balancing while moving.
    2. Stop at the bottom with a snowplow. This is the ONLY time you will every use a snowplow!
    3. Glide down the slope changing your weight and balance from foot to foot as if you were standing on the pedals of a bike. That's what skiing is and what the skis require from your so They can make turns.
    4. When you are confident sliding and changing your weight, practice traverses on a slightly steeper part of the base of the mountain. Balancing your weight on the arch of your downhill ski. The inside edge of the ski.
    5. When you have reached the side of the slope, you will want to stop. While you are still balanced on that downhill foot, bend your knees forward so your shin is against the tongue of your boot. This will take weight off the back of the ski and put it on the front. The turning part. The tip of the ski will turn into the hill as the tails slide down the hill.
    6. Now for your first parallel turn. When you are confident doing the traverses and stops, do another traverse with a little more speed and think about this. You are balanced on the pedal of a bicycle with your hands on the handlebars. When you get to the point where you want the skis to make a turn, point the front tire of the bike down the hill and get off the downhill pedal and stand up and balance on the uphill pedal. Because you have just done what the skis need from you, they will make a turn. Think of the tips of the skis like the front steering tires on your car. You don't turn the tires; you turn the steering wheel. You don't turn the skis; you balance on one after the other.
    7. If the skis don't make as sharp a turn as you would like, just press on the tongue of your boot and the skis will turn more. When you are finished turning and want to stop, just hold that pressure on the tongue. if your skis seem to be to flat on the snow and tend to slide sideways during the turn, you apply your other brake pedal. Lean just your inside hip into the hill and the ski you are balanced on will roll onto the inside edge for better grip.
    8. No you are ready for the chair lift or gondola with the confidence and knowledge that you can turn, control your speed and stop.
If you wait until you are confident with each step before trying the next one, you will allow the skis to go faster. The faster you let your skis go, the easier they will turn and allow you to go slow. Now you know everything you will ever need to parallel ski anywhere.

I disagree with the end of this video. If you have to hold your child going down the hill then they are already skiing past their ability. If you fall and they get away from you, that would not be good. Stick to the bunny hill where it’s not too steep and you don’t need to hold them. Also don’t ski backwards in front of them. Ski regularly so they can watch and mimick you.
