      I work as a ski teacher and I wish half of my students were learning as quickly as this guy lol. Generally, I would say that the two most insurmountable obstacles for first-timers are learning to actually come to a complete stop and to plough-turn. Those who struggle with the first of the two problems seem to simply lack the necessary hip flexibility and power in their legs to create that friction which will bring you to a complete snow-plough stop. For what concerns the second one, I notice that most beginners tend to stretch and lock their inside leg when attempting a turn: this results in them edging their inside ski thus making it impossible for them to rotate it; their way of skiing looks like a bunch of aborted turns. I try to explain my students that they need to bend that inside leg and keep that inside ski flat, but some just don't get it. I also noticed that the slowest learners are unsurprisingly those who come from hot countries (Singapore & Brazil, the absolute worst), and in general I can't help but acknowledge that a lot of people never do any sports, even when back at home, and once they put their skis on, their sedentary lifestyle shows all its repercussions.

    Interesting stuff Floss. I've realised that I don't really know how to snowplow. I learnt to snowplow turn by weighting one ski and unweighting the other, not by rotating. Always things to learn...

      You must have rotated your legs & feet to make the snowplough/pizza slice shape before any weighting & unweighting. If you hadn’t rotated your legs and feet your skis would have been parallel

    As a snowboarder who has never skied but is going to learn, this was very interesting. Pity, didn’t say how or how good Moss is at boarding. I have been boarding for 20 years now, and at 52 finding all the bending down to strap in, lifts etc, getting a bit tiresome.

    Why learn that kind of turning when in reality you turn differently ? Had my first time experience this winter. On a big slope fell almost every turn. You cant turn fast enough, so it get uncomfortably fast for beginner. On the 2nd day went alone, didnt fell at all. Isnt that turning used on flat ground on normal skis ?

    • @FreeFloFloss
      @FreeFloFloss  4 месяца назад +1

      The theory is that if you learn that type of turning you learn important steps of rotation and pressure control so then when you go into parallel you have the tools and you don`t hit a plateau.
