I believe one secret is to avoid fighting the natural flow of gravity, being said, the beginners fight the hill with over turning into an almost horizontal to the vertical line. They do this because the increase of speed, the fear of crashing...basically attempting to slow down. This puts them into s position to hsve to turn even more to reverse direction. As skills increase and confidence builds, Natural rythem grows, and BAM,one day its so much more fun.

Re your bonus tip: we naturally copy others whether we mean to or not. Often a group sorts itself in order of confidence. So the least confident skier at the back will be unconsciously mimicking the 2nd least confident. If you're particularly nervous about a run, know that it's OK to say "do you mind if I follow the guide on this one?" And when they go, watch them, leave the MINIMUM safe distance and take off behind them. It's incredible how much better U can ski when tailing an expert!
Can not wait to ski with you again Floss x

I really like Sian’s tip about moving before making a turn. I’ve seen so many people attempting to turn before they’ve even gained the slightest momentum, and not just on the steeper stuff. I’m speaking from experience as I’ve been guilty of it a couple of time myself when standing at the top of a narrow couloir with vertical rock faces on either side and a convex slope. On both occasions the nerves got the better of me and I immediately fell and a ski came off 🙄

I have recently come to conclusion about fear of ski heights:
    1. Practice basic skills on milder sloops, don’t rush to blue/blacks.
    2. Try to go faster and be in control on milder sloops before taking on the next one.
    3. Ski the same tracks repeatedly till you get confidence.
    4. Don’t listen to ppl who try to rush you 😅
    5. If you find issues with skills on steeper sloops, go to 1 and master it.
    6. It takes time and repeated conscious practice, baby steps and don’t give up.

Hi Flo! your video just popped up so I had to watch it and give you a "Thumbs Up" (Dr Lawn)
    I liked the tips ...
    1) Don't over think it.
    2) Kick off on your favourite turn direction,
I don't know which is my better turn side, but I always like to turn right at the start of something.
Imagine trying to mount a bike or a horse from the "other side" .. it just isn't going to work.
    3) Don't be the last one in the group going down a steep bit or moguls, I just like to get it over with so go down first. (Less people to avoid)
Unless I feel super confident, then I would go last, and help pick up the debris.
My tip is from Jiminy Cricket to Pinochio "Give a little whistle" and spread your toes :)
    Have a great Season Flo!

I'm a beginner - I can ski ok parallel but I just *cannot* do steeper reds... I feel I have to control my speed so that it's the same as on the blue (which even then is really slow - literally everyone on the piste is overtaking me!) I end up doing what someone else mentioned - after a certain incline I start turning constantly almost horizontally to the slope. (And all crouched down so I destroy my back). Everyone - including instructors - keep telling me it's ok to go faster and I... just can't....I'm scared of not being able to control things anymore - even if I know in theory I can stop, I'm convinced I won't be able to after a certain speed and I'll just go flying off over the edge of the hill. Any tips for letting go and accepting the speed?? It's my 3rd year skiing now and I feel like I'm not going anywhere until I can get over this.... :-(

Hi Elemy, thanks for your message. 1) There sounds like there is a fundamental element missing in your skiing that is holding you back. With out seeing you it’s hard to see say what it is.. my guess would be that the inside ski is catching and turning later 2) Get a better instructor 3) To learn how to slow down by line, different snow conditions and flat ski. If you know how to get back in control you will be able happier to go faster… I do video analysis on line .. if you have video of you skiing then you can send it to me and buy a session. )n 100% pitch pole plant establishes local frame of reference (counterbary) from which you enter rectilinear motion/ free fall (dynamic counterbary). Special Relativity (Einstein"s "happiest" idea) applies as Newtonian mechanics allow mono poles (cardioid patterns) and cones of probability to establish local relative movements as in general relativity but avoiding all the math required to define the differential time dilations created through rotating frames of reference substituting fictious (centripetal, centrifugal and angular) forces to explain away the math problem. Barycentric Control (inertial guidance) causes inertial frame of reference to behave locally, contradicting gravity, creating levity. To do this well you must functionally understand nature= fun. Nature means your own nature as an angry clump of matter interacting with mountains, trees and water. The synergy of motion and chemical reactions caused by gauge pressure manipulation to exclusion zone (EZ) water creates an energetic feeling of weightlessness, acceleration and power= compaction satisfaction. The more you know the better you manage and control nature creating fun experiences. I like these words because they are big and sound funny but define the subject succinctly. They make me think fun thoughts about fun things I like to do like ski fast, in steep powder and bumps.... and make fun of Finlay, making an already angry clump of matter, even angrier.

Thinking a lot while grouded during the pandemic and too sick to work on slope I delude myself thinking i know what I'm talking about. It's going to start some where and I'll never get the credit but in future snowsport instructor training manuals there will be a bibliography of references to general relativity, special relativity, exclusion zone water temperature gradient gauge. pressure manipulations. that is all going to be me presenting the greatest amount of positive learning material to winter sports. if they will have it... coming from me... they didn't like me last time and now they are all gone and new more better thinking is at hand so I'll give it another go I hope they get my jokes.
