My heart just broke when she started discussing the film. Like, I'm angry and upset for her! She doesn't own the property, but Jem is still her baby. She tried for years and years and years to do something for the brand, and she got nowhere. Then she gets a random courtesy call one day telling her that the film is being made. WTF? I'm glad it flopped. Send a message. Maybe they'll listen to her if she tries to pitch the idea of a reboot to them ever again.
Oh, I'm crying while she talks about the movie; It's so damn heartbreaking that she was shut out! It's anger inducing that a low-budget feature was not handed over to people who would have made it wonderful and was not aimed at fans who would have made it a success. Thank God, we have the comic and the Integrity Toys' doll line!
And I'm glad, karma struck them because the film ended up flopping thanks to the fans that's what happens when you don't do your research and involved the original creator of Jem who could have did 10 times more better than this Fiasco of a film
Guy here. I never switched the channel when Jem came on! Actually I liked it because it dealt with real-world stuff, so was a contrast with the sci-fi and fantasy settings of most Saturday morning 80s cartoons (Synergy notwithstanding). Christie is awesome.

Nowadays is perfect timing for super 80s concept! Hollywood is obsessed with the 80s, everyone is haha If the concept is well translated, with the looks, sinergy and all, it would be a hit!
Wow was just catching up on the travesty that is the Jem & The Holograms movie and Lo & behold this pops up in my feed. Thank you for reminding us how fab the original creator of the cartoon series is. And how much opportunity was lost not having Christy Marx involved with the movie production!
It is so great that you've used someone who's near and dear to more people than you could imagine as Christy to do this 1st piece of "people that you may not know, but you should" and bring another view to all of us who despised what Jon M. Chu & Co. just "tried" to achieve... If Christy is EVER let loose (probably by the sale of Hasbro for a reduced price tag to a media company who'd care more about making money THROUGH the characters rather than IN SPITE OF them) we could see something brewing even before THIS decade is out (maybe back to TV...) with the help of both her colleagues at the creative side AND the fans (our Pop People) for real.
+The FRONT its like i've been saying for years. Create rather than complain. If you think something is missing create it. Not enougth female ect. Make it.
+gerbill13 When women are allowed through the celluloid ceiling, it works out great, yes. The problem is not lack of our trying. The problem is rampant sexism in the industry preventing us from making these things.
You are a living legend, icon, forever changed my childhood, I thank you for your gift, talents, just for being you! If only you got involved today with your Jem and the Holograms movie! 🙏🏾❤️
This is wonderful video editing-- was convinced that this was an old tape interview of Christy until the interviewer asked her about the Jem and the Holograms movie!
Thank you for this great interview The Front! Love Christy Marx and especially Jem!Hope she will be involved in anything Jem from now onwards, be it a new Jem movie or cartoon. Great respect for Christy, she is the best and Hollywood better know it!
Thank you for being you. True to your original creation. Giving us Jem and The Holograms. Jem the animated cartoon still airs where I live. I think the original fans and those who appreciate the animations will always feel protective of the integrity of the original concepts and tv series. Clearly Hasbro hoped to cash in on revitalizing merchandise for the upcoming holidays more than they cared about the legacy of Jem. If the movie had been done better they might have accomplished that to some degree. The way they handled this one was all wrong.
Amazing when you don't involve an intelligent and creative person like Cristy Marx in the creation of your movie, and then it bombs. Weird the way things work out.
Wow what a great video; watching this takes me back to Sunday mornings when I was a kid and I loved watching Jem. Even now, all of these years later, I have the series on DVD and love to watch them to relax
Now would be a great time for a Jem and the Holograms reboot, but it needs to stick to a lot of the original character developments and have good writers who know how create a real story.
I love this video thanks The FRONT. I actually got to email her and responded her response to the reboot was sad but content. Christy is a inspiring lady I really look up to her I see myself being her. That was disrespectful of Hasbro to do that to her after all she and other people did for that show, Hasbro had shallow toys for kids and she gave them a soul a story to be told.
Pretty AWESOME !!!! I'm actually angry I'm an 80's baby and I've NEVER even heard of this comic :(. How come I was never introduced to this as a child ???!
I would love to see Christy direct a new animation for Jem be it movie or series, I don't think this works on live action tho and those guys who did that movie clearly had no idea what Jem is about at all. And it really enfuriates me to know she did try to but got ignored.
I would love to see Christy be in charge of a new Jem animated series and a Jem movie as well. Hehe. :o) I am so sorry that Christy and her agent tried to get in touch with Hasbro, but Hasbro weren't interested in reviving the Jem franchise, nor caring about the fans, but then 10 years ago, they let John M. Chu make a movie with their permission. I don't understand Hasbro's logic unless they hoped it would fail so they could "prove" that Jem was a franchise that shouldn't have been touched. If only we were able to buy Jem from Hasbro if they would allow that, and that we could then give the Jem rights over to Christy if that was possible, as she would always treat the franchise with the respect that it deserves and she would never disappoint us fans either, because Christy, the other Jem chiefs, the cast, crew, especially the other fellow writers made Jem a wonderful show for people of both genders and all ages to enjoy. :o)
An animated series like Jem would be cool as I do welcome new animated series by current writers and upcoming writers too. 😃 I would feel sad if Hasbro looked at any animated series however, and thought that's a Jem rip-off, then wanted to sue, or try and cancel the animated series.
Thank you! I loved this interview. #Hasbro: you will listen to Christy next time (you already knew what happened with your direct-to-video experiment).
Frank Berrocal Me too. 😃😊 I really hope that Christy Marx is able to make a Jem movie of her own one day. 😊👍🏻 There is a good interview on Michael Mercy’s nostalgia channel with Christy who talks about her career, Jem, the Jem movie and the Jem fan film by the ladies at Chickbait on here, who were also on Christy’s side as are we. 😃 Michael Mercy’s interview with Christy: ruclips.net/video/vdZ2LwpCDNU/видео.html Jem movie review sketch (by Chickbait): ruclips.net/video/TVQ9r3Smooo/видео.html The Jem movie review sketch provoked the fans to ask them to make a film and that inspired them to make one. 😃😊👍🏻 There are also vlogs about how the film was getting on. A little fun fact when she was talking to her cat Jetta, the original concept of Jetta was supposed to be a British black woman but maybe wanted to show minorities in a negative manner back in the day. So if people are reading the IDW comic and you see the character Jetta she's modeled after her original concept.
I am sorry this happened to her. but something tells me she's gonna get the reward that's coming to her. Im sure Christy will make HER live action jem movie very soon.
I highly doubt it. Now that the new movie has completely tanked at the box office, Hasbro won't invest another penny in to Jem for quite a while. They won't release two movies so close together. 2025 for the 40th Anniversay perhaps.
Maybe people like us, could help and donate, who are Jem fans, and who trust Christy and people like her who know how to make a real Jem movie. Then we can permanently say, stuff the monstrosity of Jon M. Chu, Jason Blum and Scooter Braun, as then we will have a real Jem movie to be proud of. 😉😃
It would be cool if a Jem movie could be made on a certain budget of money. Some people have said the holographic parts could be done using any computer and camera technology that people usually have, or that they can get hold of. 😃
Mario A'Keen There is a short trailer for a Jem fan movie that is on RUclips. The movie will be out in the spring. 😃 There is a man who did the special effects and the graphics and they are wonderful. There is a video clip on Chickbait's twitter page showing some CGI effects involving Synergy and putting together of the graphics, which was a good taster before the trailer was uploaded. Arda wigs provided them with wigs for the characters, I'm not sure who did make up and costumes, but they're wonderful as well. I'll also thank Pollution studios and the people of the studios who helped out and the cast and crew especially who helped make the movie. 😃
She's actually a talented person, and had noble goals. All of the female characters in G.I JOE, were always awesome, cool, badass, and beautiful.. Even the side characters.. The very same wit Jem, which my brother and I had collected as well. In today's era, they'd be ugly, insufferable, angry, masculine, man-hating, horrible people.. Once rejected, we'd hear cries of misogyny. MOST of the cartoons of the 80's were great for kids, and taught some good lessons too.. Today everything is so mediocre, and divisive, filled with political propaganda, which is pure rubbish, and teaches nothing positive, or uplifting... Nothing is authentic, none of it will be iconic.
