A V10 screaming at 19,000RPM passing in front of you then downshifting at the end of the straight line. That I call it orgasmic and that is how an F1 sounds like.
I was still a young boy when i witnessed the full glory of these V10's at monaco in 2002. I still cherish those fond memories. But remember my dad said a year later at Le mans that he missed the sounds of the 787B rotary. And we both hated the Audi turbo(Gasoline) sound. Luckily there were still some Judd powered screamers. All good things come to an end..... Eventually.
1barnet1 the screamers time is over. i for one welcome the lower tone of these new engines. although they could be louder. but i don't complain. I'd love to see different manufacturers have different engine layouts. more cylinders = less displacement kind of ruling. and derestrict aero and bring back refueling.
Carlos Leon I agree on the engine layout. But they have a max fuel flow rate limiting power output. Just leave that in place limit the power units to keep costs down and let the teams make what they want. Current Aero is looking fine. (For the first time in a LONG time) Don't mind the lack off Refueling. It makes stops faster and strategies more flexible. What i hate is the maximum starting fuel of 105 kg. We already have a max flowrate. no need to restrict further beyond that.
I started following F1 races in 2019 so the V6 doesn't annoy me as much as it does to others, but damn do you feel the sheer enthusiasm of those V10 and V12 roaring. It's joyful and spicy. The V6 doesn't hold any of that power.
The V10 are my favourites for pure naturally aspirated sound. However, I remember Nigel Mansell in the 1.5L V6 Williams/Honda turbo with the boost turned right up for qualifying and close to 1500 brake. That was something to behold.
I stood against a barrier in 2005 from the track and had Alonso fly by in his renault V10 and my ears were ringing for days from that race.... it was like being front and center at an Iron maiden concert. It was fucking awesome.... You could feel the sound from the raw power.... I also saw them in 2010 and 2012 during the V8 era... awesome too but not as much as V10. V6 is terrible to me...
Interesting to me that there's a pretty even split between the V10 faves and the V12 faves. It's like brunette vs blonde.... But everyone agrees the v6 is the ugly stepsister.
I don't miss the V10s for Schumacher. Because that was another era of dominance. And dominance by a team in any sport gets old fast. I miss the V10s for the sound and overall quality of the racing.

I consider myself extremely lucky and privileged to have grown-up with those lovely sounds of the V12 and the almighty V10. Really good video, brought back so many good memories!!!
Yeah. I'm 20 and when I was kid I remember the screaming V10 engines. They were so awesome that you knew that those Cars weren't normal. Now are a meh like almost everything those days. It is like a bunch of non-car guys and non-racing lovers took the wheel from every single racing championship and crashed it into a wall to make non-car freaks, and non-motorsports fans happy.
Well the sound is shit, but the engines themselves are monsters. They are reaching over 370 kph these days, while in 2007 or before that they struggled to reach 330. The aerodynamics are a bit worse today due to rules, but the turbo and electric motor make this cars quite a handful to drive.
Fici hmm, with DRS and other gizmo's to lower the rear wing the cars of today are faster, in theory. Do remember that Renault had a 900hp V10 engine in the mid-90s. Imagine having that engine with the perks and aero-developments of today... So it is kinda comparing apples and oranges IMO
there is never too much noise from those engines, I have listened to the V10s and V12s up close and in person and while deafening I just embraced the sound, that heavenly sound those engines create is something I want to hear again
@@salocin3114 I found out some race tracks (like the Nurburgring) have house limits! Like WTF is wrong with those losers that they would have noise restrictions on a effing race track. I half way understand the ring having house limits because it is just a public toll road (and because it's Germany and they're super left leaning snowflake tactics are getting worse and worse), but other closed circuit tracks, having noise limits!?!? What kind of vegan fruit fly came up with that. Next will be no more red cars allowed because it might trigger someone.
I made a little compilation in which I put the sounds of the different engines used in principle by the Scuderia Ferrari for their F1 cars in the last 20 years. You can hear the melodic V12, the screaming V10, the loud V8 and finally, yes, yes, the "vacuum cleaner" (as many people call it) 2014 V6 turbocharged engine, so you can finally hear the "sound of 2014" from my microphone. I made all the videos at Monza Circuit, in Italy. #scuderiaferrari #f1 #ferrari #ferrarif14t #ferrarif1
***** For the F2005 I realized immediately that it was wrong, but the video was already uploaded my mistake. For the F2007/2008 I still don't undersand which one is because a few years ago I uploaded a video of the same car and in the title I wrote "F2008" after a few hours I received a lot of comments in which they underlined the car was the F2007 because of it's livery. Ok right. What I don't get is why the private owners of this F1 cars should drive the cars with the specs of the presentation. I mean they should drive and "own" the car as it was in the last races of the season. The F2008 when it was show to the world it was almost the same as the F2007 which took part in the last races of the 2007 season. But the F2008 should have the fin on the bonnet (since there was a fin on it at the end of the 2008 season). Very doubtful... :/ About the livery I always have an attitude a bit of no confidence, see the F150 Italia now have the 2014 livery, ok it's for marketing reasons but still have a different livery. (just my suppositions) Anyway thanks for the comment!! :D

Aaron Bryant Not really. Simpler engine means easier for a small team like Williams or Alfa to be more competitive with the big guys as not much time or development is put into the engine, or at least when compared to the current turbo V6
The V12 & that divine sound just cannot be compared to anything else. It sounds like a freak of nature from the heavens angry at you. I would love to hear something that special at least once in this lifetime.
Marcos Cruz I completely agree. The V12 is a close second, but that V10 sounds so beautiful, it's almost otherworldly. And to hear the V10 as it upshifts always puts a smile on my face. Hands down the best engine to ever grace F1.
@@2strokeisthebest93 The drivers care, the organization cares, the car companies care. @@verttisyrjala2897 About 1000hp, the first V6's of 80s produced up to 1400hp in qualifying, but were unreliable and had a lot of turbo lag and had the power reduced to 800hp in the races. The modern V6 hybrids produce 1000hp and are changed 3 times a year, while the old V10/V8 engines were changed 4 to 5 times a year and had much less power and consumed much more fuel. Detail: I went to Interlagos at the Brazilian GP last year and I was impressed with the sound of the cars, extremely rough and aggressive mainly in the decelerations, it is not loud like a N/A engine, but still sounds amazing and it still sounds like an F1 car. The new engines are efficient, modern, reliable and open doors for more engine suppliers
V12: Most beautiful sound. Powerful but too heavy. V10: Best combo of power/weight and the sound is almost as beautiful as V12 V8: Not as good as the V10, but the downshifts are the best V6: Good sound in the 80s but shit now. Shit without turbo and ERS
@DESTROYER67732 It is less about "being designed to use turbo" but more of a "simply needs one". Remember that F1 cars rely on very high RPM to achieve the rated horsepower. Since power is related to how much air and fuel an engine can take, and having less cylinders means each piston needs to travel more (or each piston will weight more because they would need to be really wide due to extreme bore measures), a V6 would cap at 10k RPM before g-forces in the engine provide too much stress and still won't not make as much power, so a turbo is added to boost this engine to a desirable power and torque rating. A V12 doubles the amount of actuating pistons per crank spin, gaining torque and the pistons won't travel much (reducing G-force stress and consequently allowing higher RPM) to achieve the same power rating even when naturally aspirated, allowing engine speeds of 12K. Another thing: turbos always have a muffling effect, so the V6 Turbo F1 sounds "sad" not only because there is less pistons, but also because the turbo toned muffled it. Tell me if there is anything wrong.
@@NothingXemnas The maximum RPM an engine can achieve is fundamentally limited by the maximum piston speed. Petrol and air have a limited combustion speed, and if the maximum piston speed significantly exceeds this, the engine becomes significantly less efficient. If the stroke is shorter, then the piston speed decreases and it's possible to run higher RPMs. Cylinder count increases smoothness and is correlated with balance, but it's possible to run even an inline-4 at 15k in a motorcycle. Also, the biggest reason that the turbocharged engine sounds "flat" is because the turbo requires a different header arrangement to maximize efficiency. For naturally aspirated engines the ideal setup to maximize power is to dump exhaust gases into equal length headers that all meet at a central collector, minimizing backpressure and scavenging the other cylinders through the Venturi effect. For turbocharged engines there is constant backpressure from the turbo and a simpler log-type exhaust works better in terms of packaging, especially in the aero-dominated modern formula.

Wont happen. If the teams could choose themselves they would still pick the V6 engines. And also, refueling will probably never be allowed again for safety concerns
But sound doesn't make power. There are heavy and need too much fuel for a entire race. The technology is simply old and outdated. Almost no manufacturer builds 12 cylinder engines. For what? Nowadays you can achieve more power with less weight and less fuel consumption. Loud noise is power loss

I'd love to see different manufacturers have different engine layouts. more cylinders = less displacement kind of ruling. and derestrict aero and bring back refueling.
Having refueling back again would be great
Carlos Leon
I agree on the engine layout. But they have a max fuel flow rate limiting power output. Just leave that in place limit the power units to keep costs down and let the teams make what they want.
Current Aero is looking fine. (For the first time in a LONG time)
Don't mind the lack off Refueling. It makes stops faster and strategies more flexible.
What i hate is the maximum starting fuel of 105 kg. We already have a max flowrate. no need to restrict further beyond that.
Exactly give this men an award please!

About the livery I always have an attitude a bit of no confidence, see the F150 Italia now have the 2014 livery, ok it's for marketing reasons but still have a different livery. (just my suppositions)

@DESTROYER67732
It is less about "being designed to use turbo" but more of a "simply needs one".
