Dont forget with a lost - if you occupy a tile above ladder (etc.) lost cant climb up. And they dont have any range attacks. So instead running side way you could climb up and hold possition on a tile on top of a ladder.

Yeah, but some units still can jump up. Like robots for example. But on missions with swarm i tend to place one sneaked unit on a balcony while other unleash hell from windows with grenades and stuff. And swarm can only pass turns if there is no other targets to attack. And if there are only lost remaining you can easily occupy something like a that ship cargo box shooting down the fish.

Decryption Complete: Message from ADVENT High Command
It appears that we have underestimated XCOM's capabilities. As I am sure you have heard by now, Prax Tala has fallen by XCOM hands, specifically the Templar operative that gave him such trouble in his initial skirmish with XCOM forces. Despite his cowardice in his attempt to escape, using a passing swarm of lost to distract XCOM, and leaving his men to fight as he fled, the Templar caught, and summarily executed him, in a burst of speed not possible for humans naturally. Our research division believes that the Templar use psionics to enhance their speed as well as power their blades. It would seem that these "Conjurers of the Stars" are better trained than we previous believed. We will need further information.
The speaker has managed to turn this dilemma around, and if any member of the public questions you on who was slain, the name is Matthew Bennett, who conveniently just signed up for recruitment, and will be on the front lines after some... genetic enhancements.
XCOM is becoming more dangerous than ever, and failures like Prax Tala will not be tolerated
(Thanks for all the support on the last one! Means a lot. Any feedback is always welcome, and good job Commander Odd for pulling everyone through alive that mission)

DISCLAIMER: I do not own Firebrand. This is just meant to be a work of fiction for our beloved (more or less) Skyranger pilot.
    Firebrand's personal log - March 13th 2035 (Entry #2)
Zombies. Why did it have to be Zombies? And, to make it worse, we had to haul the corpses back to the Avenger. That was just plain disturbing. And it wasn't just a few corpses. It was almost 50. Heck, I'd prefer dragging a Sectoid's ass in the dirt instead of carrying zombies. Obviously, I wasn't doing this on my own. The squad was helping as well ... but you get the picture.
It was a long engagement. It felt like an hour had passed until the 'all clear' signal was given. Through the audio feed, I could just imagine being there with the squad. The Templar was again outstanding. Zoey Durand, that's her name. Incredible woman. I should try and talk to her, see how she gets this done. Her bravery just seems to be through the roof.
Anyway ... Avenger picked up a signal from the old invasion. I wonder if it's Big Sky. Or Vahlen. I asked Central, he isn't sure either. He promised to keep me posted.
Our search for that signal was ended abruptly, after the Templar Leader requested our assistance. You know it ... More Zombies. I swear, if I have to carry more of those on the Ranger. I just finished cleaning it.
Right, best warm up the engines.
    Firebrand out.

    Entry 2
    3/7/2035
    Log Book: Mr. "Huntsman" E
Damn it, I was hoping to not be back in the medical ward so soon. Those "lost" as I kept hearing them called really got under my skin. The stench of the city set my aim off, and from what I could see it was the same for the others. Only one of us who didn't get injured ended up being Durand. Once again she pulled us through. The thing that freaked me out was when the Sectoid trie to burrow into my mind. It felt like it was trying to tear my free will away from my body. I was able to resist, albeit with some disorientation. I used to internally laugh at those who had gotten mind controlled, now I feel a shred of sympathy. If their experience was similar to mine then I only hope that they can recover well.
On a lighter note, I got show off some of my "hunting skills" when I killed enemies that were farther away than the ones even our sniper killed. Though I was impressed by his pistol skills. Sometimes I wonder why command doesn't give all of us those pistols with infinite ammo.
My biggest regret right now would be that the medical staff forbids me from drinking while recovering. I don't get "drunk" anymore but it helps soothe my nerves. But they claim it interferes with the healing process so no booze for me.

    Log 2: Zoey “Kohlla” Durand
    --- Pre-Mission
As I write this I’m getting ready to go out on Operation Buried Stallion. God knows who came up with these mission names, much less how they come up with them. As I look around in the hangar, waiting for the all-clear, I can see Deshong, Blazkivitz and E. They already look so much different than when I last saw them - they look like they’re ready for war, and I truly hope they are. Snipers, Grenade Launchers, Gatling Guns and even Drones - and I’ll got is my pistol and my Shard Gauntlets. That isn’t to say that the others outclass my weaponry though - I would gladly take my Shard Gauntlets into a fight other any other weapon, any day of the week. Central’s mission briefing was certainly an interesting one. Today we are not only fighting ADVENT, but also the Lost. Ex-humans, and whilst I’ve never seen them up close, the others have, and I have heard their stories. To try and fight an ADVENT General I will have to bring my best, but to try and fight these “zombies” (as the crew of the Avenger have been calling them), I will have to bring out much more than that.
    --- Post-Mission
If I didn’t have any faith in Commander Odd and his men before, I certainly do now. That was one hell of a mission. The Lost were everywhere, and in some moments, the Aliens and their Slaves seemed just as numerous. Everyone else has in the medbay for their wounds, but I didn’t sustain much damage. Granted my legs hurt from leaping off two story buildings, but my training, armour and resolve certainly helped to minimize the damage. Even now as Geist calls for the aid of Commander Odd, I cannot go, despite how much I truly desire too. The medics say that my body and mind are too fatigued, and so my presence on Operation Ghost Fight is forbidden.
As for Buried Stallion, I don’t know much where to begin. The Lost Hordes were almost overwhelming in number, and some even had unique abilities, such as a self-detonation that lured in more of the Lost. However, what troubled me most about them was their brains. These creatures were most certainly not human, and their psionic resonance showed that to me as plain as day. Individually, they barely have enough mental capacity for me to feel it, but each one was linked - a hive mind. And that mind was strong. As my blades punctured their bodies and pierced their thoughts, I could find no sense of an individual, only one large whole. I’ll have to report my findings to both the Commander, Tygan, and Geist.
The men by my side today were certainly not those I fought with only a few days ago. They fought like true warriors. Even when Huntsman was disoriented, we were there for him. And when I panicked, they had my back too. I’m still ashamed that I lost my touch in the heat of that fight - it wasn’t professional of me. But that Sectoid definitely got what was coming to him, and speaking of the aliens, we most certainly cleaned them up. That General thought he could escape me, thought he could escape my wrath, but I knew otherwise. When I first plunged my blade into him, I could feel his fear as my weapons tore through both his body and mind, and I knew he had no hope to escape, as did he. Being able to finally extinguish his thoughts was exhilarating, even if after that we still had to cleave through the Lost Hordes. As I sit here in my bunk writing this before I sleep, I can still feel the rush of combat flowing through me, and I relish the fact that I soon will be able to renew that glorious sensation.

Sniper Grenadier not the worse, I usually have my Grenadiers hang back as fire support along with my Supports protecting a sniper. A support with a Sniper is even better but sometimes you don't want to use grenades like on Lost Missions. Use teamwork for the sniper for more shots, plus I believe dual shot at level 3 bond can trigger Holotargeting if you use it on the Grenadier which boosts the Snipers's free shot.

Note to all X-COM Personnel - PLEASE remember to have body bags fully sealed before bringing them onto the Skyranger! I had to use half of our stock of baking soda to get the stink of those "Lost". Firebrand and I actually had to resort to using toothbrushes. TOOTHBRUSHES!
I realize with over 50 Lost corpses piled into the Skyranger, there might be some issue of supply, but if I have to raid the pantries and personal supplies after every mission, I can promise you, ADVENT and the aliens are going to be the least of your worries!

Commander Odd just a suggestions. For the lost, if you are just trying to clear them out to end the mission, you can setup on the high ground and have some people "block" the ladders. Cheesy move but you might avoid getting your soldiers hurt. An example would be fire escape. Only one way in while the rest of the team shoots the lost. They can't get up or have to go around inside the building

Bonds benefits only apply up to 8 tiles of distance between bondmates. Therefore you want assault to bond with grenadier and specialists with snipers. If you plan to run missions with two snipers, you should bind them together. I’ve been running this scheme for some time now and it feels the best arrangement.

Yeah. Standing on a ladder tile keeps you safe from the Losts. As far as bond pairing goes, there are a lot of good ones but dual Specialists is an actual killer. It's pretty easy to keep them close to each other, taking the better from prximity bonuses.
Depends a lot on your playstyle though.

Log book 2: Zoey Durand ‘Kohlla’
I got put on Operation Buried Stallion, we had to eliminate the ADVENT field general, this place felt strange at first, a shadow of death walked the air, I felt it.
Then we noticed some ‘human alien’ zombie like things, Bradford mentioned them as the ‘lost’ I got the first kill at least at first we struggled with one ADVENT trooper because the others accuracy is horrendous but I can’t say much myself when I only use my psi blade, I got the second kill with the trooper the others struggled with, that relived their stress, but a lost brute was heading my way, I had to back off a bit so others could get it. I went to strike at the sectoid, then what do you know! A swarm of lost came after me when a explosion came, I felt my end was coming at the moment the lost came ‘Terror Billy’ tried to help me but he isn’t feeling it today, so the only option I took was run, then a strange psionic energy came towards me, I felt like I couldn’t control myself, my heart was racing, I ran blindly into the first cover I saw and hid there, I got myself back together and started helping the others with my pistol since it was dangerous to see the lost up close, I racked a few kills and the body’s started to pile!
I went to try and draw the lost towards me, the lost split up then attacked ‘doc’ he explains that it hurt to be hit by a lost, they have a lot of force when swinging. I suddenly noticed the general was retreating, I had to stop that, I came in with a swift strike then climb as fast as I can to the roof! I quickly realised I was focused again and I can be ready, I observed through the glass roof to see a swarm then one was running straight towards me! ‘Doc’ had me covered on that, then I swiftly went in and killed the general, I feel proud to of done a service like that, then I ran straight back to the roof, I don’t think they even saw me, I heard ‘Huntsman’ got attacked mentality by the sectoid, he resisted but some reason couldn’t see very well, I say he has a better mental state than I do if he only felt dizzy.
be honest I think everyone was dizzy on this mission because they were missing a lot of their shots, I went in to kill that sectoid and I fell down before it knew what was going on, this meant that we all could have a breathing rooms, ‘Billy Terror’ took this as an opportunity and started to kick the lost’s asses! But I had to say something about my own accuracy because I came face front with a lost and missed! I know can you believe it? Please forgive me commander, but we still managed to kill it, by this point nearly all of us took a hit from, something. By this point we started to clear out the lost eventually, but slowly.
From then we finished the mission and I again! Got the best medal, I think I’m starting to keep this team together. Alright I’m tired to, I’m going in now for my promotion training, I think I maybe learning this ‘parry’ technique sounds cool. There’s rumours going around that ‘Doc’ is so called ‘gifted’ with his intelligence...

I just checked his Mod List to be sure and he's not seemingly using [WOTC] Fair Lost Targeting:
    steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1123260291
He really should not be relying on Lost attacking Advent as much, as their default targeting behavior is 70/30, so 70% likely to target XCOM and only 30% Advent. It's a simple INI fix too if his game is getting bogged down with mods. I always found this strange, since in the introduction to the Lost/Lost training mission there's even a voice acted section where I believe Dragunova states they attack indiscriminately based on sound. Evidently, this is not the case... when unaltered at least.

    • @azurephantom100
      @azurephantom100 6 лет назад +1

it was obvious that the lost had a higher chance to target xcom just by how many ran past advent who were closer more then once and I have told odd a few times that they prefer xcom over advent yet he still thinks its a better chance to have them target each other (I think his first ever time fighting them while the squad was hidden made him think it wasn't so lopsided odds for them fighting each other)

  • @ieaturanium574
    @ieaturanium574 6 лет назад +3

what i found in my l/i run is what matters more in bonds is that you consistently bond the same classes together. so for example you can bond sharpshooters + grenadiers and specialists + rangers, and then you could bring more people with bonds to your mission (assuming u want all 4 classes on every mission).
but if u decide to bond some grenadiers to sharpshooters and other grenadiers to rangers, it would be harder to compose a squad with 6 or 4 bonded soldiers because then you would need to bring the same class twice.

Geez you are so good at this game sir......
I got introduced from a guy mainly stream paradox game videos. He's almost the first time in Xcom so he played casually, spend most his focus on edgy custom historical squadmates rather than actually fight the aliens, causing him to frequently take rather questionable tactical decisions and rookies basically only had half chance to survive through the first mission. While he's an excellent youtuber for sure, I would surely suggest your video to someone attempting a more advanced and high difficulty playthrough like me.

Mr Odd like on this mission when it says kill remaining targets after you have done the main objective - I think you can manually call evac in and it will still count as a full success. It is especially useful for lost maps where swarms keep coming.

Hey you asked about the pairings, the pairings i really liked where
    sniper+specialist
(you always want them in anymission, they can stay together for the bonus aim that is great for the sniper if you dont find scopes and you can grant the sniper move+ shoot in a turn while the specialist is just sending his gremlin for heals out anyway)
another good duo for me was
    skirmisher + grenadier
the bonus action is nice for both of them , the skirmisher has indipendent movement if he needs to give his action, and both just want to deal upfront dmg so they wont split up to much)

So wait, if you've got the old style DLC missions on, does this mean Rulers are going to show up on random missions, or are they still only going to be activated at facilities? Because that could get pretty hairy!

Journal of an ADVENT General, time of writing is March 7th
We are beginning to see what kind of nightmare has festered from the group known as X-COM. As you are aware by now, one of our field commanders was looking into the ruins of an old world city to look for any information about X-COM, he would soon get a first-hand demonstration from the very same group. To add to his problems, at the same time The Lost decided it was the best time to attack as well. As per combat drills, the field commander began to move to a clear evac point as all other soldiers covered him, attacking Lost and X-COM alike. However, he made a grave error in judgement by returning to clear out The Lost, allowing one of X-COM's soldiers: A Templar, to attack and ultimately kill him before turning their guns and blades to the rest of the ADVENT soldiers and Lost.
To all new recruits: Beware of the Templar and don't give them a chance to attack. From what we learned reviewing the attack on the field commander, they are able to use a combination of psionics and specialized gauntlets to slash their targets, kills made through their gauntlets allow them to focus whatever psionic energy the soldier may of had into them to increase their power. If unable to get up close they must wait for an opening or risk using their sidearm to attack instead. More drills and testing of weapons have been logged so our soldiers will not make this mistake again. [Entry ends here]

There is a mod for rend and sword attacks to count as headshots, very OP though.
Reaper / Sniper is a great bond team. Reaper as a spotter sniper as the finisher.
Ranger with Nader. The dual shot with cannon/shotgun is killer.
Specialist with anything because they are support.

DISCLAIMER: This log is written from the perspective of one of the Avenger crew, specifically an engineer under Shen. This is mostly done to get me into a writing mood before either my own, or any other character I have permission to write for shows up in the season. Enjoy!
    User: “Engineer Harry Preston”
    Date: 7th of March, 2035
    Entry #1:
“Uh… Is this thing on? You’d expect I’d be better at this for wo-- Oh, the light. Right, well, not sure if this matters at all, but here it goes… Ahum…”
_There is a brief pause, followed by the sound of a chair adjusting._
“For the record: This is Engineer Harry Preston, answering to Chief Engineer Shen, of the Avenger. Time and date is currently… 8:34 pm, 7th of March 2035. Entry number one.
So… where to begin? Let me start off by clarifying I did not steal this logbook. It was given to me by Carrie, that is Carrie Adams from Medical. I’m apparently a little too enthusiastic about everything and everyone, and rather than disturbing people in their jobs she handed me a logbook to vent in. Now, I know these are usually only kept by actual soldiers out in the field to gauge their mental health, so it’s entirely possible she’s just making a stab at me; but I prefer to think she cares about the operation’s and my own well-being instead.
With that out of the way, I think what I really wanted to talk about is that last mission. Or should I say how *awesome* our troops are? I was watching the mission feeds with the rest of the crew - just the ones that weren’t critical to mission success, relax guys - and it was like watching an action movie! Maybe we should’ve expected that, what with Corporal Blazkivitz being an ex-movie star and all. I mean, sure, it started off a little rough. A lot of shots were being exchanged but very little connected, and then there were these… Frankly, I don’t really know what they are. According to Dr. Tygan, the Chief Scientist, they’re… people? Or at least, the result of what happens when people stay around the radiation of the crowd control pods dropped in the initial invasion for too long. I’m not going to lie, they’re giving me major zombie vibes. I don’t envy our troops for having to go toe to toe with these things. There are so many! Oh, and did I mention they explode? Because they do. Well, some do. I’m not sure how to tell the difference between the ones that do and those that don’t, but there’s definitely different types of them. Some of them are disturbingly quick on their feet instead, for instance. The good news though is they don’t play buddy-buddy with Advent. They swarmed them just as much as they did our own.
Alright Harry, you’re ranting again. Back to the topic: our soldiers. So as I was saying, quite a few misses early on. I can understand it though. If I’d have encountered these Lost for the first time I’d probably just have turned tail and ran. And let’s not forget those were people once… Oh, I didn’t mention that yet, did I? These “zombies”? We’re calling them The Lost. Figure it’s a bit more respectful than plain old “zombie”. So anyway, between Corporal Durand slicing up a couple Advent, Corporal Blazkivitz eventually found his groove again. With the team realizing their time was running out, Durand set out to chase down the Advent General while Blazkivitz guarded Corporal Deshong and “Huntsman” from having a really bad day. They still took some hits, but things would’ve been a lot worse if he wasn’t such a crack shot with his pistol.
The real spectacle came in the form of Corporal Durand though. What a woman, let me tell you! Advent may put their Generals in quality armor, but nothing could prepare them for Durand. In between Lost all over the warehouse, the General never saw her coming. However, unlike the other Advent, the General didn’t go down by a single slash. Somehow, she knew this and before he could even turn on her she already dashed back outside again. You should’ve been in the Rec room at that moment. Just about anyone was audibly amazed how in the time it took for the General to recover and keep moving toward his evac zone, Durand actually got *on* *top* of the warehouse. I would say she climbs like a monkey, but that almost sounds like an insult. In any case, the room was filled with cheers when Huntsman hit an amazing shot on a Lost securing Durand’s position. Though that was nothing compared to what followed when Durand like a damn ninja dropped *through* the skylight into the warehouse to deliver death from above to the target. She even repaid Huntsman by slicing up the Sectoid that tried to mess with his brain.
After that it was basically just cleanup. Blazkivitz tried to get fancy by nailing a bunch of quick consecutive shots on Lost so to not be outdone by Durand, but got reeled back in by a scratch from a Lost straight to the face. He’ll probably be in medical for a day or two to make sure the wound doesn’t infect. Goodness knows what strange things that could do to your body. Better not to think about it, I suppose.
Other than that not too many things have changed. I don’t quite want to use the word “calm” since… Well, I’m still aboard the most high-profile ship on the planet, part of a Resistance to the ruling force of said planet. I don’t think things will be calm for quite a while, but I think I’m handling it well? No way to know for sure I suppose. Then again all I have to do is make sure our systems get the maintenance when they need it, so how bad can it be? That being said, last mission did bring in additional Resistance support. This time in the form of another Chief Engineer by the name of Jeremy Henderson. Make no mistake, Chief Shen will still be leading the Engineering team, but at least she has others with similar expertise to delegate the more challenging tasks to. On the one hand, this means we’ll be having an easier time in constructing the Guerilla Tactics training facility the Commander requested. On the other hand, that also means our timeline just moved up from finishing in 22 days, to finishing in 11. I think we can handle it, but we’ll probably burn through most of our supplies doing it. Here’s hoping the Commander can budget well.
Anyway, I think that’s about all I wanted to talk about. Well… Not really, but this has been dragging on for quite a while and this log isn’t going anywhere, right? So uh… How do I do this? Uh… Engineer Harry Preston, signing off?
    … Or someth--”
