It was built with the experience of the Osprey. The Osprey was a first of a kind and thus had to overcome the fundamental issues with tilt rotor aircraft. The V-280 has fewer unknown unknowns.
The osprey is safer than the vehicle it's replacing(aka H60). People might not like that, but it's the truth. Osprey has 3.4 deaths per 100,000 hours while the H60 has 6.9 deaths per 100,000 hours. Also a pilot rate of 0.86 for osprey while H60 has 1.75 pilot deaths per 100,000 hours. Even though the osprey has problems, we need to look at the big picture here. If it's even safer than the osprey, that's at least 2-3 times safer than the H60s they're using now. www.safety.af.mil/Portals/71/documents/Aviation/Aircraft%20Statistics/V-22.pdf www.safety.af.mil/Portals/71/documents/Aviation/Aircraft%20Statistics/H-60.pdf
