I have had Gout now 4X in last 2 months. I am currently on Gout medication. If I choose to go and eat out and eat food high in purines I will drink a lot of water before eating the meal then drink water while eating the meal & then drink a lot of water after eating the meal. I know this is probably not the best thing to do overall but sometimes you still have to enjoy life & have a cheat day and be happy!! I personally believe the WHOLE key to better Gout control is drinking more water. I’m drinking at least a half a gallon of water per day!! So far zero gout issues!!!!!!

The problem with these food lists is they often conflict with each other and its fucking frustrating. This list has white rice and beans/lentils as foods to avoid for example, yet many other lists have those same foods as safe to eat and a good part of a healthy low purine diet (when consumed in moderation obviously).
Anecdote: I just got my very first gout attack a week and a half ago. I'm on day 10 now, the worst pain is gone but my toe is still fucked and I can't walk normally. Before that, I had already cut down on booze since I got laid off from my job 3 months ago and wanted to save money by not going out on weekends. My diet was already free of sugar and bad carbs like candy and soda, and I've always drank water exclusively. I had been eating a fair amount of red meat and rice already but I don't think that's what did it for me....
Ever since I got laid off from my job as mentioned.. my stress has been through the roof, and my sleep schedule has been pretty shit. On top of that, I've been too depressed and low on energy to exercise (I used to go on long walks regularly). So... I'm almost positive that stress + poor sleep + lack of exercise no doubt contributed to some weight gain and ultimately my gout attack.
So while diet is definitely a contributing factor for many gout sufferers, it may not be the case for everybody. Chronic stress can help bring about many types of ailments, not just gout. So if you've got gout flare ups (and you know its prob not genetic) but your diet is A-ok, make sure your mental health and stress levels are in check!!! It'll wreak havoc on your body in more ways than one. Be safe everyone. 🙏

I had gout flares ,they are gone ,as soon as you detox from the uric acid this time , and can walk 45 minutes a day , drink water in moderation during the day ,walking helps a lot ,opens the blood pathways on your legs and lowers blood pressure ,and helps with stress , walking is the best medicine ,we were made to walk , don't we have legs for that ?

I believe it’s possible that in the short term after quitting heavy drinking, since fat cells such as in a beer gut break down, uric acid levels can spike. Counterintuitive I know as drinking also spikes levels.

Don't eat this, don't eat that . I watched dozens of healthy eating videos a while back, made a list of what I could eat that wouldn't do me any harm, the only thing on the list was water so I went on a water only diet I went from ten and a half stone down to one and a half stone, my hair fell out , my arms and legs fell off , then I saw a video that said even water was bad for you so stop drinking water, I ended up looking like a football sized dried prune . Can anyone tell me what IS safe to eat ?
Footnote : Good vid. I don't have an issue with gout , I watched it out of interest , gave it a thumbs up !

I don't know whether all this applies to other types of inflammatory arthritis. I am suffering from polyarthritis in my legs and lower back; the rheumatologist isn't 100% certain which one is. When it comes to meat, I opt for chicken breast. As for fish, pollock or cod. Oats and flax seedsm, when it comes to grains. Any sort of nuts except peanuts; be it almonds, walnuts etc. Vegetables, since I am on methotrexate, I opt for lettuce for folate. Fruit, any type of fresh fruit; now that it's winter I mostly consume oranges and clementines nevertheless I'll also have apples or bananas. As for dairy products and eggs, my body seems not to have an issue with those. Thanks for the information.

Limit your oats. It is higher in Perines than other grains. I was shocked to see that in a Mayo Clinic study. Pure Black Cherry juice, unsweetened Pineapple juice, and Cranberry juice a couple times a week are a good flush-out. Stay away from Cocktail juices. Lots of sugar in them and little juice. You can eat an apple every day but bananas once or twice a week.

This is why I became a vegan, as there is no food so delicious, that I preferred being in a wheelchair. I know how to make our diet delicious. It is worth the effort. Lost 80 lbs, no heart disease, no more asthma or allergies and NO MORE GOUTY ARTHRITIS!!!
My husband had prostate cancer, found when it was stage 4. Of course when one gives up all animal foods like I did, has to have gone crazy! My dad died of Alzheimer’s disease. I am 70 now, he could not have typed anything when he was my age.
The weight came off slowly for me as I had one broken ankle, then the other one. I discovered eating salads daily and no more problem with my bones. Had Physical Therapy for my ankles and got to walk-in and up to 5-6 miles a day, when the weather was warm. Now we go to the gym as I want to maintain me at 120 lbs.
My back is much better, I manage weights at the gym and I wear a size 4 in jeans.
I can play with our grandsons, even fitting down children’s slides to keep up with the twin with Autism. He needs me right there.
Being able to do what I want is more important than food I liked the taste of but crippled me. I can make whatever we eat DELICIOUS! Loads of great Plant-Based recipes which are FREE or buy a cookbook.
We went on a 3 week vacation to Yellowstone Nat’l Park and the Grand Tetons and visited family. I could endure the rough roads as I am strong, almost never miss a day of exercise as I want to be well that much.
We don’t use many meat substitutes as many are high in fat. We have become great label readers. The best foods are those in the produce section, and come with NO LABLES!
We follow “The Starch Solution”, a diet by Dr. John McDougall, MD. I find it the easiest to figure out turning my well loved recipes into ones I can make with plants, cooking by the seat of my pants, as I know what the foods do. It is a no hunger diet, so I could reach my goal and maintain my new weight.
I thought I did not have enough will power, no, it was the wrong food.

I had gout but my big toes were not affected, but it was in my fingers, & lower back, putting me in a manual wheelchair I could barely push due to my hand involvement.
I gave up all dairy as that was easily replaced with plant-based milks. But the last animal food I gave up was chicken, as to me, it was delicious. But I saw a chicken playing a piano and could not bare to think I could do this anymore, nor eat eggs. I play the piano myself!
So long as I leave animal foods out of my diet, arthritis is not ruining my life. I can and do eat a wide selection of veggies and salads, starches of all kinds, even quinoa and soy and chickpeas. I make a 5 bean chili which is so delicious my husband will brave having 2 bowls of it in a day.
I can drink wine and don’t get the gout back.
God specified what we should eat in Genesis 1:29. He sent me to Genesis asking me if I had never read it. Yes, I had but I was wearing my meat glasses and my brain could not get the message. When He allowed meat after the flood, it was a concession due to not much plant food being available. God did not change our bodies to make it so meat would not make us sick.
The majority of the diseases we get later life go away if we get off the meat without much effort. I got rid of 80 lbs. Feel much better.
If one grows a heart for animals, and stops eating them, chance of even heart attack goes way down, especially with the weight loss & goodbye high cholesterol and high blood pressure.
We know what spices make meat tolerable, using them with plant foods, keeps my diet nutritious and delicious.

I get gout about once a year. Usually in the colder months. Cold hinders blood flow for me.
About a month before the covid shutdown I caught it. I didn't know what it was. I thought it was a cold or an early allergy season. It made me dehydrated. That caused the first one.
That being said, I researched the hell out of that nightmare.
One video says eat this not that. Another says don't eat that eat this.
First off, everything in moderation is key. Understand what your triggers are. For me it's anything fructose. No more soda, sweets of any kind.
Sounds like BS, but I drink 9to12 beers a day.
Unless I'm not eating right nothing happens. I drink 6 soda pops in a day and eat an ice-cream sandwich. I can feel the shit coming.
Lemon juice, spoonful of baking soda in water, ibuprofen and lots of water catches it quick. Soak in cold Epson salt water helps swelling also.
These are some of the things that help me. Find out what keeps your gout at bay and stick to the regiment.
Your favorite stuff is not banned for life. Just don't over do it. DONT EAT THE WHOLE CAKE AND ALL THE ICE-CREAM IN THE CONTAINER
