Slamming his head into his keyboard, Ian Idubbz had been pushed over the limit, he began to scream and yell, with the extreme power of a Dragon Ball Character. He cried hard, thrashing around his room, and then began to suck his swolen thumb to calm himself down, he glanced back to his keyboard, his eyes still flustered with blind rage, the comment still stood there mocking him ; " Kat Bird 16 hours ago Hearing people call him "Ian Idubbbz" will never not make me smile" Shortly after his tantrum, Ian Idubbz entered a school district and shot 24 students dead. Before loading the gun up into his mouth and pulling the trigger.
@@Laiser and thus idubbbz died but wait! His supposedly lifeless corpse is moving. It's moving as if someone or something is trapped in him, what is it we'll never know. There were no cameras to record it only a couple of eyewitnesses. Some claim it was his soul while others believe a darker story- a story so unnatural that it's beyond comprehension of a human mind. It requires real deal to wrap your mind around this. They say his body moved vigorously, violently and then it burst open blood splattered on the incident due to the aftermath of what had just happened, only to be vanished in thin air. They say a man resembling idubbbz in stature stood over once great youtuber's body- wearing parrot green body suit. He resembled the sun, so bright, so hot that human eyes failed to capture the beauty. Some internet users even started comparing him to God sometimes even above God, they have named him idups.
I feel like this is something that needs to be made more clear about being a foreigner in Japan in general. I lived there for five years, and what I observed is that this sort of behavior by organizations and individuals in positions of power is unfortunately widespread. Managers and companies regularly expect work hours beyond the legally allowed shift limits from their employees, and extra duties their workers were never hired for and will not be paid for. Do not expect pay for overtime in Japan, unless you're a CEO writing his own paycheck. For a native Japanese citizen, being taken advantage of in this manner is just accepted as part of living in their "unique" and "special" country. Trying to use actual recorded Japanese law to fight such exploitation by employers is pretty much pointless, as it's widely understood that a company will just fire you for made up and unspecific reasons (much like what you saw with Merryweather) and most government agencies who are ostensibly there to enforce the law will just accept their undefined reasons for termination. And that will often lead to this particularly Faustian rationale: since you were fired, you must have been a bad employee, so there is no longer a reason to continue an investigation about your mistreatment as one, and your case is summarily closed This sort of bureaucratic betrayal by an agency that's supposed to protect you is usually followed by your name and picture (btw, all job applications in Japan require a photo of your face... for all of the wrong reasons you can imagine) being put on an entirely illegal but never criminally investigated black list for all the local employers who all embrace the same abusive work practices. Chances are, you will end up jobless and un-hireable, and you will either have to move to another place entirely or take the risk of looking for opportunity in the underworld. To the average good-hearted and pacifistic Japanese citizen, this is a terrifying prospect, and they will usually accept most demands made by their employers just to avoid this situation. This is exactly why Misaki acted the way he did after being exposed, because in Japan, vague threats like that actually work, and most Japanese without the money or power to fight back will just cave to these threats immediately. His mistake is a common one, he tried to use Japanese style intimidation on Westerners, which pretty much always falls flat if they're not in Japan and vulnerable to Japanese authorities. In this case, he got rightfully punked by the RUclipsrs involved, but always remember, folks like him in Japan generally are the "winners" in life. For every public shaming he's received online in our virtual world, he's probably fully taken advantage of and/or crushed an unfortunate Japanese citizen who happens to be lower than him on the totem pole with implied threats and requests that are presented as formal letters or official documents provided by cooperative local officials. Japanese bullies are paper tigers, but unfortunately in Japan, papers are very real weapons. Now imagine being a foreigner with even less legal knowledge of Japan, it's an even more sketchy experience. Some companies will actually coddle their foreign employees for PR reasons, as they see their foreigner as more of a living mascot, and thus get much better treatment than native Japanese employees. But some also fully abuse the fear and confusion of their foreign employees to maximize every little profit or work they can get out of their essentially helpless laborer. If you look around, you will find horror stories of foreigners having their passports taken by their new employers for “registration purposes” but then never get them back, realizing that the company is holding it hostage for their compliance. So if you want to rock the boat, they just report you for being an undocumented foreigner and the Japanese government deports you and bans you from the country without caring you actually have a visa since you can’t produce it. And if you try to fight it and rightfully accuse the company of taking your documentation, good luck, because generally the Japanese do not care about the law when it comes to foreigners, unless it will get them in actual trouble with a major power’s government. For proof of this attitude, look up the fact that “Japanese Only” establishments still exist in Japan, despite the country’s own constitution declaring that kind of discrimination illegal. By Japan’s own core legal document, no business can be allowed to deny services purely on a racial or ethnic basis, yet they do it rampantly throughout the country. Reporting it does nothing, as the government body tasked with “enforcing” that law is the Jinken Yougobu, or Bureau of Human Rights, and they literally have no power to enforce anything. They can’t force discriminators to desist or even send police, just send a strongly-worded (which in Japan basically constitutes not using the words “please” and “if you would be so kind” every other sentence) letter that will be ignored. Importantly, if you ever decide to move there as a foreigner, always remember that there is no Writ of Habeus Corpus in Japan. This means Japanese police can arrest and hold you without warrant or charge for up to 23 days with no phone call and commonly no lawyer to get a confession out of you, any confession they want. You want to maintain you have a legal visa to be in this country and that it’s being held by your employer against you will? The police will just keep you in interrogation for 3 days straight until you break and admit that you made up the entire foul accusation to sully the unimpeachable honor of your Japanese employer just to get out of the interrogation. This brings us to the Japanese legal system. The Japanese justice system only brings guaranteed convictions to trial because they believe acquittals in court de-legitimizes their legal system and makes Japan look imperfect or weak. Thus, Japan’s low crime rate is not indicative of lack of criminality there, but the fact that many crimes are actively swept under the rug when it involves only Japanese nationals. This is done through the tradition of jidan, a type of apology that takes the form of monetary compensation. The aggrieved party agrees to not file charges or withdraw them by accepting financial compensation from the guilty party. This type of resolution is actively encouraged and sometimes facilitated by Japanese police to simplify their own workloads, as a jidan means they don't have to actually finish the investigation and write any more reports. This is used for crimes as minor as theft to as egregious as rape. Keep in mind, rape as a crime in Japan is only vigorously pursued when the assailant is foreign. By Japan’s own law, rape only occurs if the victim can prove they actively fought back, by having evidence of violence like bruises or cuts on herself and the attacker. If you’re drugged and raped in Japan by a Japanese man, congratulations, you just had consensual sex, and now you’re just a dishonest woman trying to ruin the life of a good decent Rufie-carrying family man. But you just have to suggest a foreigner may have raped you to send the Japanese police smashing through said foreigner’s front door in the middle of the night to arrest them and hold them for 23 days without a call or lawyer until they confess to it. This is not in anyway stating that the publicly well-known and tried cases of rapes by foreigners like US servicemen are all false accusations, but just pointing out that justice in Japan is severely unjust. Now imagine that entire legal paradigm applied to a foreigner of little power or influence, and they’re accusing a Japanese person or entity of wrong-doing. To bring it to trial is a stain on their nation’s honor by allowing a foreigner to publicly expose Japanese misbehavior, and even if they acquit the Japanese employer, it’s an unforgiveable disruption to their near 100% conviction rate while also giving the public a whisper of a suspicion that discrimination or corruption may have affected the outcome. All outcomes cannot be countenanced there. As far as the Japanese legal system is concerned, you’re just another foreign troublemaker trying to pollute the “purity” and reputation of Japan. All of this can happen to any visitor to the country that happens to upset the wrong Japanese national, but especially those who are seeking work or a new life there. Serious cases of coercion and entrapment have happened to people ranging from unfortunate prospective English teachers who got involved with unscrupulous English schools to young Filipina or Southeast Asian women who were lured to Japan on promises of maid work or other domestic jobs, but find themselves suddenly deprived of their documentation and forced into the red light district business like hostess clubs and brothels like soaplands. Japan seems to get a pass from Western countries due to their image of being obsequious and cooperative to Western governments when it comes to international politics, but they have serious internal issues with basic human rights that are swept under the rug of the Japanese concept of "Yamato Damashii," or the "Japanese Spirit" or what I would call "the greater good of the Japanese people." It's this sort of warped manipulation of the 18th century samurai myth of selfless sacrifice that is used to exploit their own citizens alongside hapless foreigners. Japan can be an enchanting country with its preserved natural beauty and near-pristine maintenance of its historic sites and culture, but there is a definitely draconian and calcified skeleton inside that pretty closet.
To add on, Japan in notorious for labelling any crime that resulted in death as "suicide" or a health complication (ie. heart disease, even if patient history says they had no heart conditions presented before). This is in order to keep giving the image of how the police look to people, and showing that their (investigative/detective) capabilities are high. Unfortunately, the motive is the fact that this is the only way for them to keep their position as officers, and they will play dirty just to keep it that way. "Without autopsies they can keep their percentage [of solved cases] high. It's all about numbers." In terms of unnatural death, Japan autopsies only a mere 11% of the cases nationwide (whereas natural death autopsy is practically zero, which can avoid investigations for medical malpractice). They do not want to investigate due to a number of reasons: the family does not want to (cultural idea of "leave the dead alone" (while ironically falsely labelling the dead) in conjunction with social stigma aka "The nail that sticks out shall be hammered down" ), it is expensive for the insurance companies to compensate if the death is unnatural, giving proper punishment if it is someone who may be in power is impossible, and police want to keep those numbers of solved cases high. The disturbing fact is that unless the killer is obvious, they will not request autopsies, and one can easily get away with murder if they need to. Here's a Case of Takashi Saito, a 17-year old who's severe head injuries, chest injuries and "battered" looking body was announced by the police as a heart disease-related death. The police initially refused the family to see the body until pressure caved them in and the family saw the horrid state of their son. It wasn't until a month later that they decided to investigate, which was after the case had gone viral. Idubbbz and Jaiden Animations are two people I never thought I'd see in the same thumbnail. Then again, I also didn't expect to see a video on Samurai Buyer in 2020. Only here on TRO.
I can't watch videos from commentators who just make some random avatar move around the screen while they talk without cringing so I just listen to it instead.
I forgot what Samurai Buyer even was and it clicked after a few minutes. The last I heard of it was Jaiden and Akidearest so I didn't even know this stuff happened so I'm glad I clicked.
Fucking LOL @33:24 Keemstar had a golden opportunity to do the right thing and score a juicy scoop but went "Nah, my fans won't enjoy this". This man's ability to be an antagonist in every internet drama ever is beyond legendary.
I thought the same thing for the longest time. Only just recently I stumbled on this samurai buyer thing on the internet and had a moment of realization. Lmao
I'm guessing that word doesn't mean the same thing in the UK that it means in the US. If you say it here & it's overheard at work, you're getting fired. It's 1 of only 8 words that can't be spoken in US broadcast
Back in the peak of people wondering "Who is Mr. Misaki", this was actually a really common theory. It had something to do with the marketing on their Twitter, I believe. This info may be redundant though; I haven't watch the video yet.
"Misaki" is *DEFINITELY* either Australian by birth, or lived here from a very young age. I'm Australian, luckily I'm into variants of our accent & love our unique (read: 'superior' 😉) Australian English dialect. That Skype call wasn't just a red flag for me, more like a "Danger, High Radiation" sign. I listened to it a few more times to increase my certainty from 99% on first listen to 101% certain. The fact that TRO's examples of AnimeMan, Slazo & Maxmofoe are all Australian just ices the cake for me. *_G'day, Misaki mate!_* EDIT: TYPO
Also when IHE responded to Misaki with pretty typical Aussie-Anglo slang (kip? My brown ass thought he was having some late night fish) and Misaki just responded like he perfectly knew the slang and kept going.
I find it really interesting that Misaki recognised the marketing potential in the tendency to infantilise non-westerners. It seems to me that Samurai Buyer came to realise that pandering to racist stereotypes sells. Honestly, this is a fascinating by-product of the 'edgy-humour' era of RUclips - thanks for making such a great video on it
Lol. Why has everything always got to be attributed to racism. Maybe people just found it endearing, and Japan is a stable, functional country and culture so it’s more trust worthy. Anyway, despite making up only thir...
Having positive and innocent feelings about a businessman seems like a really gullible and stupid thing. I guess hindsight is 20/20 though, and they were young.
Exactly: I was always weirded out by people considerimng Misaki to be such a wholesome, friendly adn endearing persona. The very moment he """"""accidentally""""" referenced racial stereotypes and started using edgy humor, it became clear to me that he was playing a character to a ppeal to the youTube community and gain clout.
Me: I hate how everyone ises the word "weeaboo" to describe anyone who likes ANYTHING from Japan smh :/ TRO: Japanophilic Me: p... please just say weeaboo
I guess sometimes it was condescending but it also reminds me of when a grandfather tries to be hip and cool towards his grandchildren. I think it is more about the effort in trying to be informal when you're unexperienced on something. That is seen as endearing and well-intentioned, thus being considered adorable
Nothing to do with “superiority” or “difficulty with English”. It was the fact this guy tried to fit in with western culture. Using turn of phrase that could be misconstrued as insulting but in such a wholesome manner, that the person obviously didn’t mean disrespect. Akin to when you see people go to a country and try to learn a few phrases... amazing. Actually quite surprised the R words wasn’t brazenly used here.
PLEASE do Cryaotic. he was one of my favorite youtube idols growing up and his recent disgusting and disturbing fall from glory has given me flashbacks to my school's numerous takes of the Ice Bucket Challenge.

I know, The last time I heard about samurai buyer was the Jaiden Animation video and nothing else so to see this in my subscription box was very surprising.
I remember when I was younger I almost managed to get my parents to buy something from Samurai Buyer. I had seen the name pop up alot in Jaiden's videos, and I was a massive weeb back then, so I begged and begged my parents for anything off of the website. I'm just glad that Jaiden posted a "warning" in the descriptions of her videos in time, otherwise my parents would've been absolutely fucked over.
I always wanted a model Zero fighter, not really a weeb item, but I want one straight from Japan for the lulz and historical value, and a model Ha-Go because it's a wonky little thing.
@@krisdoesart9643 It may not be a scam (as in you will probably receive the item you've ordered), but as someone that's had the displeasure of ordering from them (and I can't speak for anyone else, so others may not have had this problem), it's absolutely a possibility that they'll rip you off on their additional fees after you've already paid for the product itself. Don't be surprised if your order a tiny figurine or something and they end up charging you $30 for their services. As someone that's imported from Japan with many other services, I can guarantee that in my personal experience with them they've definitely overcharged to an outrageous degree.
Yeah, Jaiden always said that she doesn’t want to take sponsors, though I don’t think she got paid to advertise Samurai Buyer it’s still sucky the only time she advertised something... turned out to be a scammer.
The legal threats definitely make more sense in the context of the Japanese legal system. You can be sued for libel in Japan for damaging a business even if the things you are saying are true.
I know this is old but I guess that explains why the merry guy was scared because he lived in Japan where as the American RUclipsrs didn’t care because they couldn’t take any legal action other than try to remove the video.
To Anthony, because Slazo, he was apart of another drama, he could've been a bad guy. I wasn't expecting him to be connected to this at all considering.
@@Rickrollmachine23 But Slavo wasn't the and guy in that drama. That chick who was Slazo's and also Pyrocinical's ex, iamAlexxx and their friends were the bad guys to destroy Slazo's image...

Samurai Buyer officially shuts down on Dec.31. It’ll be in a way, an end of this saga, it’s an interesting lesson for companies about the power of social media. A nobody middle man shipping company got big because of large content creators, but certain individuals got a big head and thought they could do whatever they wanted and the repercussions of that decision affected them to the end. Even if Merry’s troubles didn’t end the company immediately… since due to the nature of companies they can stay active even if they are losing money for a certain period of time. It would seem this drama and the lack of professionalism of Misaki among other things started this slow collapse. In the age of social media; companies should try to avoid fucking people over for a small gain.
Its not just that. The fact that the company continued to employ Misaki after shit went down instead of realizing their mistake and bandaging the wound while its still fresh, they allowed it to fester until nobody could trust their representative anymore. If they had fired Misaki from the first instance and claimed ignorance over his treatment of Merry, they could still save face(or replace it) but by letting things get out of hand, they earned their dismissal from the community.
@@DemBigOlEyes Yeah, as a company they should have let go of Mizaki as they let go of Merryweather. Mizaki was doing more harm than good by staying there, and as you said, letting him go would have been a form of reparation. However, Japanese companies being Japanese, it's very hard to let go of a Japanese employee. Gaijin are fine to let go, our true patriotic Japanese should stay.
@@VanillaSchleep he got famous from comics, yes, but the controversy helped bring attention to him some people prolly followed his accounts to try to cheer him up or whatever, and then when the comics popped up maybe 10% of people were like "oh it's that guy" but most people like me just came from the internet explorer memes and webtoons
To be fair: my boss is Indian. He still has the accent and on minimal occasion speaks broken English but all in all he speaks great English. But his writing and texting is still very very broken.
Imo, that kind of thinh is understandable. When I first learned English, my pronunciation sucked because I only needed to know how to spell words for school. That means I never bothered to learn how to actually pronounce things and how to communicate - simply because I didn't really need it at the time. I imagine it being similar for your boss, especially since Indian and English aren't really related.
This may be a little bit of a difficulty to believe, but I was mutuals with the Samurai Buyer account on Twitter back a few years ago. And it wasn't even business relations, that account was added to a group chat that I was apart of (and still am in) some years back and would talk with the rest of the people in the group about various things. Something that's really irking me after the things you described here, is that whoever was operating the account could speak perfectly well English, or at least hadn't fully utilized the "broken" English that Misaki(?) would do elsewhere. They were generally empathetic and easy going. We would generally converse about our daily lives and struggles with depression and the like. I may have been interacting with a totally different employee. Like I said, you guys might have a but of difficulty in believing me, but I'm just gonna sit here and try to rack my brains on any memories, and if I have anything off an old account what our conversations were like, I'll absolutely add more to this. Seeing the account in screenshots also doubled my confirmation to myself it's the same account I interacted with. (Update): The person I befriended in the end was not Misaki after all, it was a different employee that they passed the account to for a while. From what he described he dipped FAST when he started realizing what he was getting himself into. Ironically you helped me remember him and now I have met up with an old friend again, thank you very much for that.

Never seen your channel before, only clicked bc I remember misaki and idubbz. Saw the video was an hour and said “there’s no way I’m watching all of this”. I’m now 30 minutes in and have realized that I’ve been hooked the entire time. Definitely finishing it, fantastic video.
The fact that I used to get shat on and bullied in middle school because my english was terrible (English wasnt my mother language) and Misaki was being praised because his english was bad, makes me question basic human functions at this point.
The difference in treatment probably stemmed from you interacting with socially underdeveloped middle schoolers while misaki was interacting with grown adult youtubers. Kids can be as cruel if not more cruel than adults.
It's because he have multiple editors creating them. Still, finding a topic interesting enough to analyse it for an hour and writing a script is hard enough on its own, let alone with limited amount of time, but obviously he doesn't do everything himself.
This sounds to me like an old episode of South Park "Chinpokumon" Cold & cunning Japanese businessmen playing up a subservient & self-deprecatingly disarming persona to perfectly disguise a much more calculated (and sinister) alterior motive
Man it's been a while since I heard about Samurai Buyer. I remember JaidenAnimations mentioning that he wasn't as wholesome/innocent/nice as he seemed when she had people asking why she hasn't mentioned him for a while (since I'm pretty sure she helped design a Pokemon banner for the site).
They're shutting down it seems, got to love the message they have up "As a small startup, we had to learn a lot along the way and we’re honored that you stuck by us every step of the way. To everyone who's bought something through us, mentioned us on social media, or even just shared a youtube video we were a part of, we want to say thank you so much. It might be a bit clichéd at this point, but we truly could not have done it without you. "
Man I just looked at the subcount for the first time in a while and whew, its been a long road but closing in on that million. You deserve it for sure. Always such elegantly put documentaries on topics nobody probably cares about, but its so captivating that we take the whole ride anyway.
Yeah that’s actually the thing I always remember with samurai buyer and at the time I thought the company did this all the time but soon Aki pointed out... it wasn’t.
Slazo’s videos on this subject were what made me subscribe to him in the first place, and I’m subscribed to both him and Joey. It’s so weird but I’ve actually forgotten about this situation and this video really brought back the memories
the whole idea of "Japan is the safest place" "japanese people are very kind" basically the country's reputation played a role in it. Its pretty much like you're an english speaking guy that went to a different country that's well known to be safe and some local told you that "blah blah" in their language is a greeting but in reality it's "I'm a retarded foreign whore". You've heard this quote plenty of times "Don't judge a book by its cover". Tip for all you travelers, specially streamers out there, it's best to learn the country's swear words or dangerous words first. Imagine some Japanese dude went to the US saying "gang sht" "Im Blood" "n-word" that his foreign "friend" told him to say as a formal greeting in a ghetto part of town.
I watched Jaiden's video when it first came out on samurai buyer, which made me think he was a sweet Japanese guy, just selling his stuff... NOW LETS GET INTO THE TRUTH, BABBYYYY
52:31 You know a situation is complex and weird the second anyone feels the need to cite a scene from the Spongebob Movie as a good example for said situation, especially TRO.
"A guy named the anime man"..... AAAAAAaaaah holly fuck I forgot this guy existed! I used to watch him, akidearest, misty, and lost pause so much back in my weeb days.
Hearing samurai buyer was a nostalgia trip, especially since I don't really engage with any of the content i associated them. Guess that's how i completely missed this drama,,, also very interesting that merry was involved in this since i just got into their content early this year 👀
Honestly, it wasn't that big of a situation. The viewers expressed displeasure, disappointment and anger towards the company and a few sponsors. Some people jumped on and exposed the scam, the sponsors stopped, descriptions of old videos were changed and no one associated with samurai buyer. The company went down and doesn't do much now. It was the strangest and easiest controversy to deal with. Nothing that's seen today really lol very nostalgic though
I recently just found your channel and, honestly, out off all of the “drama/informative” channels I’ve watched yours actually makes me think. It really helps give someone the ability to decided if they want to agree with you or not. It allows your viewers to see more information on both sides than just one, for most of your videos at bare minimum.

And that will often lead to this particularly Faustian rationale: since you were fired, you must have been a bad employee, so there is no longer a reason to continue an investigation about your mistreatment as one, and your case is summarily closed
This sort of bureaucratic betrayal by an agency that's supposed to protect you is usually followed by your name and picture (btw, all job applications in Japan require a photo of your face... for all of the wrong reasons you can imagine) being put on an entirely illegal but never criminally investigated black list for all the local employers who all embrace the same abusive work practices.
That was fantastically long and well written
This is disturbing and eye opening, thanks for writing about it
Well said my man.
My man rly just put his essay in the comments very cool
To add on, Japan in notorious for labelling any crime that resulted in death as "suicide" or a health complication (ie. heart disease, even if patient history says they had no heart conditions presented before). This is in order to keep giving the image of how the police look to people, and showing that their (investigative/detective) capabilities are high. Unfortunately, the motive is the fact that this is the only way for them to keep their position as officers, and they will play dirty just to keep it that way.
"Without autopsies they can keep their percentage [of solved cases] high. It's all about numbers."
In terms of unnatural death, Japan autopsies only a mere 11% of the cases nationwide (whereas natural death autopsy is practically zero, which can avoid investigations for medical malpractice).
(links also provide quotes and stats that I used for this comment)

LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK
Its not just that.
