I rode both of these with my siblings and my parents back in ‘86 when we visited Disneyland. Good memories. Went again in the early ‘90s a couple of times (grew up in SoCal an hour from Anaheim, traffic permitting). I miss Disneyland.
My parents were on the boat when it finally tipped over and dumped everybody in the water. 1999? 2000? They came home with a whole new Disney wardrobe after that trip. They shut the ride down after that.
I had to Google this after reading your post. WOW. From Wikipedia: "At about 5:30 p.m. on May 17, 1997, the Disneyland Gullywhumper boat began to rock side to side. It capsized, dumping a full boatload of passengers into the Rivers of America, leaving several with minor injuries. The boat was removed from the waters for inspection and neither the Gullywhumper nor the Bertha Mae returned for the next operating season."
Purple Chicken Farm I know not many people will see this or believe this, but my girlfriend’s dad is actually the one that capsized the boat. I was astonished when i found that out. He got fired from Disneyland, but luckily was not banned. My girlfriend and I are still disney nerds.
I love the Mike Fink Keel Boat footage. I use to enjoy this short tour. It's a shame that they closed it down. Seeing your footage is a nice trip back to memory. My name is Jerry Cornell, owner of Theme Parkology, of which I produce documentaries on theme parks, attractions, characters, legends, and animators. I am currently editing the history of Disneyland 1990-1999 and was wondering if I could use your Keel Boat footage footage? I will of course credit you and send you a free copy of the finished DVD. I thank you again for sharing your footage and for your consideration, Jerry Cornell jerry@themeparkology.com
The Keel Boats were the most fun way to travel around the Rivers of America, because the narration was funny!
I swear this is the same guy we heard when we rode this in 1993 lol...it's that laugh

Wish I could go back in time
The Rivers of America is the best part of Disneyland (maybe the train)
Sheesh, what happened to "You can hear a baby fawn calling quietly to its mother... HEY MA!"
