Light Magic - A Streetcrapular! (During The Day)
Not so magical: The floats for this parade had to be moved through the park in broad daylight....and in full view of the guests during it's premiere (and farewell) Summer season of 1997. This was done so that the first perfomance of the night could begin in Town Square, which was ultimately supposed to help with crowd control. (When the parade would start near It's A Small World, many of the guests that had already viewed it at that end of the parade route would then make their way towards the park exit and get bogged down by the crowds that were viewing the parade at it's next "show stop" on Main St.)

The amount of casual racism against Japanese people in this editorial is just staggering!
The Rivers of America is the best part of Disneyland (maybe the train)
Is this xenophobia or are we “woke” for this?
I loved that old show back when it was in WDW. I actually drew the whole mural on 3 sheets of poster board and had its across my room. If anyone knows where I could find the whole show please let me know
Half Formed
Now thats rude
@@nicholaslowell9823 that’s what the name meant, did u watch the movie?
Gosh the racisicm
They're lucky no one fell.
I remember seeing mama swan with cygnets once.
Amazing! My mom was an extra for this 'stage show' back in 73'. I was 7 yrs old in the audience watching all this.
Cool! I didn't mention it in the description, but my dad is one of the police officers in this video!
Magic Kingdom
0:08 that man is having the time of his life 😂
yes, the narration is pretty cringe ("programmed not to mention world war II" etc) but you got to remember that more time has passed since this was filmed (41 years here in 2024), than when it was filmed and the end of WWII (38 years). It was a different era.
My family called me from these when I got left at my grandparents house for getting in trouble at school.
1:45 his taillight is out!
They did finally install some safety rails for Rocket Rods -- they remain today. But only on exit sides. Part of getting it running again today would definitely be safety & accessibility related, I think moreso than repairing the damage and installing new track/motors.
Love this show. Saw it many times in 1995
This was shot in late 1996 I think
1996
The Space Place did close well before 1995. This must have been a video of what was left abandoned at the time, much like the old America Sings building and Mission to Mars building. Also, this was the last year the PeopleMover was in operation.
Yes, you are right! But the area and the seating was still used after the restaurant closed, for some seasonal and special events. You can see at the beginning of the video, that they hadn't even removed the "The Space Place" sign at this point.
@@TokyoMagicToo I never knew that. I remember one time in 1991 coming here for lunch only to discover a sign out front that said, “Sorry, we’re closed. Try Tomorrowland Terrace”. Nowadays, half of the old seating area is used for Alien Pizza Planet, and the other half is used for the Space Mountain queue.
In many ways it was a better time. The character of the population of the US has sinced changed and most don't care about being American, or where their stuff comes from, even if it's from a dictactorship using child labor. Even though Japan was (and still is) an ally, it was more acceptable to throw competitory banter at them as you see in this video. Now China is a far bigger competitor and we're just letting them walk over us, and any leader at least attempting to put America first has been called "racist". There's not much uniting the US these days, and without unity, what even is a nation?
Come on, the floats/stages were pretty neat.
i wonder what camcorder you're using for these video
this video even takes me back to February 2018 !
Why would many people hate this video? this is the best one you've ever made enjoyed every minute of it especially the ride POV! and of course im glad you were there on opening day! :)
The racism is INSANEEEE.
This is such an interesting era of Tomorrowland. They tried to reinvent Tomorrowland, but most if it fell on its face, It's interesting to see how fast the satellite thing (which is actually the old rocket) ride above the platform spun, and now it doesn't move at all.
An OSHA nightmare in today's world!
Did the small world promenade not have music was it just the clock ticking? Kinda gives an anti climatic feel to the floats just randomly passing by And was that a cast member at 3:52 saying how much they love the parade lol
You can hear the music just really quietly
Kayyleeeeee, yes....just the ticking of the clock. Music would play out of the speakers, whenever there was a parade taking place. The speakers are in those towers, and before the towers were built, there were smaller speakers hanging on posts, in the planters along the parade route. And yes, that is a cast member saying how much she liked the parade. We had already seen it, so we were telling her that we couldn't believe that they got rid of the Main Street Electrical parade for THAT! (The Main Street Electrical Parade had it's supposedly "final" performances, the previous summer, and Disney claimed that it was NEVER coming back. Of course, since then, it has returned multiple times, but always in an abbreviated version.) That cast member was defending it and saying anything she could to convince us that it was the best parade ever. But I knew people who worked at the park, and management gave the employees/cast members lists of "canned" answers to use, whenever a guest complained about the new parade. They did that as sort of "damage control" because they were getting TONS and TONS of complaints about it, from guests. That is why Light Magic never returned after that one summer.
Was the walkway from story book to small world changed at all?
Kayyleeeee, yes...it was. The walkway was all flat and it was much wider. During the construction taking place in this video, they added that raised/terraced area on the far right (if you are looking in the direction of It's A Small World), and they added that row of trees on the left side of the walkway. That was so they could keep guest traffic moving along on the other side of those trees, and not have people trying to stop to watch the parade. Prior to that, you just had to walk behind the crowd of people who were there watching the parade, but that line of trees weren't there (between the parade route and the backstage area behind Storybook Land). I hope that all makes sense!
Thanks for making this Public! Super awesome footage.
Light magic 💡🪄🧚🏼♀️
Sheesh, what happened to "You can hear a baby fawn calling quietly to its mother... HEY MA!"
Thank you very much for sharing this video!!
I hope this video never gets taken down. The best 90's Tomorrowland footage I have ever seen. So great! Thanks!
Thank you!!!
I hunted this down to locate 0:50
I'm 62. When I was a kid we went there and saw parts of this great country I had no idea. Man years later I had visited some of these places and saw some of these great sights. First time I had heard of West Point or saw West Point. I didn't even know what it was. Saw Mount Rushmore, saw the wide open plains on Kansas and Nebraska.
Greetings! May I use this footage in a video I'm making about this ride's history? I will give your channel full credit.
ThemeParkCrazy, sorry this reply is so late. Yes, you may use the video, but please do give me/my channel credit. Thanks! And please share a link to your finished "history video"!
That’s what Disneys California needs a a show like for the Hollywood back lot.
Somehow the announcer in this commercial is still less racist than Twitter users talking about Japan
If this was in America, then the announcer would be like “They’re dying to get in as if they don’t don’t health insurance”
The Keel Boats were the most fun way to travel around the Rivers of America, because the narration was funny!
Wish I could go back in time
It's Halftime
THE RACISM??? ☠️☠️ kept jump scaring me😰
Jesus - I hope you never go through a REAL crisis like a fire or mugging or tornado. How will your precious sensibilities deal with REAL things like THAT?
Love the double showstop
God, we need to find more footage of this version of Fantasy in the Sky, I would pay good money to track down a POV from Main Street.
As someone who grew up with Japanese pop culture and loving it very much, I was surprised by how passive-aggressively racist Americans were to the Japanese during the 80s and all because they make better cars than we do
Loob
Another classical Attraction gone but not forgotten I hope thanks for the upload
I was 13 when my mom took me to Disneyland. This was her favorite attraction and I think she went through it five times.
