Being a teenager in the 80's was hella fun.
Billy Idol’s name was inspired by a schoolteacher’s description of him as “idle.” On his school report card, the teacher wrote “Billy is Idle.” He took that as his name but changed it to “Idol”. So, that’s how William Michael Albert Broad became Billy Idol!
Hi there. I remember reading something about that somewhere. I knew his name was William Broad but up until then I didn’t know where he got the ‘idol’ from. Thanks for letting us all know that. much appreciated. Take care.
@@101scetch I remember it from a "Behind the Music" episode on him from many years ago. I just checked and I see it's uploaded to youtube, definitely recommend it to any Billy Idol fans.
Millie and Billy? Heck yeah 🤘
Millie Idol maybe?
He is from the 80's!! He started in the late 70's, but he had all of his success in the 80's!! 👍
He had a No11 hit in 79 with generation x
Millie Idol
😅
Billy Idol is one of my favorite performers.
@Millie...the 80s ROCKED! I so miss it!
Me too. Class of 85 here and lived by the rock and roll capital of the world. We partied hard
@@andreadeamon6419 I was born near Cleveland, in Solon. Go Tribe and Chief Wahoo Forever!!!
Saw Generation X , Billy Idols first pu k band , when punk arrived in the uk and still have all my original Generation X vinyls. He was part of the Bromley contingent with Siouxsie sou and others.
He is still touring and kicking ass. Say him again last year
I got a chance to see Billy Idol at the peak of his career, in the 80's. I'm 63 now and that concert is one of my favorite memories.
Great 80’s music 😊. Parachute pants !! Eyes Without a Face.
80s F**k here. Yes Millie! The 70s and 80s were the best decades in my life so far! Especially the music! Check out White Wedding.
He was in the band Generation X in 1977 but his solo career didn't start until 1982. He 68 years old now.
The crush is understandable. He has Elvis vibes. And yes, the 80s were awesome for music. It was at the apex of music talent before music was overproduced. Second British invasion. And no autotune. Also, I think you'd like Billy's songs Eyes Without A Face and Dancing With Myself.
I just seen him in concert a few months ago. He is still awesome in concert.
That 80's Style, Vocals, Swag to go along with that Stage Performance is Special! That Stage Setup, The Crowd, The Smoke Takes You back to a Wonderful Time of My Teenage Years. If You want to know what it was like then just Vibe with this Performance.
I saw Billy in concert on his Rebel Yell tour in 1984 in Memphis Tennessee in the middle of the Mississippi River on Mud Island. Great concert. and if I remember right he is on tour this year. My favorite is White Wedding.
I'm an old man now but when this came out on MTV as a teen dude I was like "damn , it's over for us nobodies " cause he was just that cool.
I was in high school when this song came out. It was epic then and still is.
Very cool to see your excitement that people like me (older crowd now) grew up on. You would've had a blast and fit right in. But relish your age and enjoy every minute youre in now. But you can be an honorary 80s member. Keep the energy going!
Billy was the man! Check out his acting skills in "The Wedding Singer".
First concert I went to was Billy Idol with The Cult opening for him..amazing show. Check out Blue Highway by Billy Idol.
Billy Idol was so fun in concert! I saw him 4 times during the 80s. He started out in the punk band Generation X. ''Dancing With Myself'' was a Generation X song. He re-recorded it when he went solo.
I grew up in the 70's and 80's, Best time of my life, Wish I could go back
Billy Idol came up in the punk rock wave in Britain in the late 70s, with the band Generation X. But he's known for his hits as a solo artist in the 80s and early 90s. He did keep some of the punk rock aesthetics for his 80s persona though, like the spiky hair and whatnot.
Billy Idol was great. We played White Wedding as our wedding dance song. Everybody got up and danced. There wasn't one person sitting down.
Yes, I did go see him in the 80s. He was absolutely amazing.
I want to a bunch of those concerts went backstage hung out got a lot of memorabilia from him such a nice humble guy
He was born in 1955, such a good year!
Shout out also to Steve Stevens guitarist and song writing collaborator with Billy… Fun reaction and review 👊🏻
If you haven't seen it yet, gotta watch the movie, "The Wedding Singer". Billy makes a cameo near the end.
I too had a crush on him back in the day. I've seen him in concert a couple of times. He used to perform at our Six Flags amusement park in the 1980s. He puts on a great show. He's actually aged really well too (Google recent pics). He's like a silver fox now. 😂
Hi there. I was and still am a very big Billy Idol fan. I am an 80s boy at heart. He did so many fantastic songs. All the women used to go crazy over his lip curl that he used to do. Absolutely awesome video. Thanks so much for doing it. Take care and blessings to you from the UK.
He started as the lead singer of Generation X, which was punk...then went solo and ended up sorta' pop/punk...in fact "Dancing With Myself" was originally done by Gen X and he re-released it as a solo record
Before pursuing a solo career in the USA, he was in the English punk band Generation X. I like their tune Kiss Me Deadly.
Great reaction Millie Idol! So much fun to watch you rock!
So many of his songs had such great driving bass lines like this one. Thunder from the rhythm section. My favorite song off of this album was probably Blue Highways (which I still drive too fast while listening to) followed by Daytime Drama, but I always liked the good songs that weren't released as singles.
I first heard Billy Idol at about the same time I first heard Generation X, which was his previous band with Tony James who went on to found another great 80s oddity band, Sigue Sigue Sputnik. Through the early to mid 80s my favorite spit in your face style of rock musicians were Billy Idol and Joan Jett, both absolute rock legends. The 70s and 80s had some amazing music of a variety of styles.
Honey it was a great time im glad i made it through it lol
Your love for Billy mean your going to watch the movie "The Wedding Singer" to catch his cameo.
His role in ''The Wedding Singer'' was supposed to be much more than a cameo but he crashed on his motorcycle (nearly tore his leg off) and didn't recover enough in time.
Watch his video for Mony Mony, it's a live performance.
Billy appears in more than a few TV shows & movies in person, voice acting, & on soundtracks. I've seen him in the Wedding singer where he has a small part, but missed him in other works so far. you can crush on him there too.
Best thing about the 80s was there were more genres popular at that time than any other era in music.
In the 70's in a punk band called generation X Solo in the 80's-90's
He said he based his lower vocals and raised lip on Elvis, who was an ideal of his. Im 57 now, and yes the 80s were glorious.
Billy's "To Be a Lover" is a great track and vid, well worth a listen
50 years careeer and still rocking! React to Billy Idol - Speed - official video.
I got to see him when he lived in New York along with Madonna and The Depeche Mode. Good times.
he hit his strides in the 80's.
He was so good
flesh for fantasy, eyes without a face, catch my fall, blue Highway, cradle of love, are all amazing songs
Millie he's not old now, he's mature.
I was a teenager in the eighties - I don’t think we all new how special this time was till it was over, to be honest. It’s not much fun being 55 years old, but I wouldn’t swap it for being younger if it meant I didn’t experience eighties music as it happened, live & so damn fun!
Millie crushin' HARD.
Billy Idol was an MTV player in the 80's.
If you ever do a 80s night i havr some groups and songs that will make you crush on them too. Silly Millie Vanillie. Love the nostaglia. I was a kid, the 80s and 90s were the best decades
Flesh for fantasy next of billys
Thats why he is The Idol!!!
"Flesh for Fantasy" is good too.
Class of 1985. Great memories! 🤘👍😎
Is coming to Montreal and Quebec City in August can’t wait to see him 🎸👏🏻👏🏻👍👍
I was a teenager when rebel yell was released to me he was punk rock
Legend 😂❤ Even tough straight men respect Billy so much we fu*king love the guy! 😂❤ 🇬🇧 🇺🇸
Try White Wedding, Eyes Without A Face or Hot In The City (which is never reacted to even though it had decent radio airplay)!
Guitarist Steve Stevens he also played for Michael Jackson in Dirty Diana ...also appears in the video
I have watched him 4 times live
Gor a Steve Stevens Guitar pick from a show too
he used to bein a punk band in uk in70's
Billy has a show in Vegas!
Billy Idol = Elvis and Punk Rock had a love child. Crazy amounts of charisma, women went insane for Billy. Every guy wanted to be as cool as him.
The way you feel about Billy Idol is how I feel about Joan Jett 😊
Love you girl. Wr got married in 1979 eo rjos is our newly married dance music. Though o am a Zep/Floyd/Clapton lover, i too had a bromance with Billy Idol. Great performance.
Hey Millie, he was a Punkrocker from the Band Generation X🤘😇🎸
He was a teen in the 70s.
You should be jealous the 80’s were awesome!
I saw him with this same group in 1982.
🔥🔥1980s🔥🔥
I was nine years old when this song was released. I’m old. 😩
The 80s went through a very fast transition
Trust me, we all had a huge crush on him back in the day! I had a college roommate in L.A. in the 80s who loved Billy so much, she chose her boyfriend solely on the basis of how much he looked like Billy Idol. She found one, he had the hair and eveyrthing, lol! I saw Billy out on Melrose one time, getting off his bike in front of a jewelry store. Yes, he's a hot grandpa now!
Written by Billy Idol and Stevie Stevens. Billy Idol was in a New York City club with The Rolling Stones. Idol saw a vodka named Rebel Yell. He took the name and wrote the lyrics.
In the same club, he introduced Nile Rodgers to the late David Bowie. The 2 produced Let's Dance 💃.
These events happened after Bowie and Queen petformed, produced and wrote Under Pressure.
Suggested videos 📹: 1 Billy Idol sings Cradle of Love 2 David Bowie sings Let's Dance. 3 David Bowie and Queen perform Under Pressure.
He was part of the original British punk movement which the Sex Pistols created. His punk band Generation X had a couple of hits between 1977 and 1979. _Into the Valley of the Dolls_ is pretty good, and you can see in the performances he hadn't quite nailed his look or his stagecraft yet.
Billy Idol has brought me here, babe...to complete my task of learning the first 2 verses for my music lessons tomorrow at 3pm. )))
Fantastica
i was 13 when 1980 arrived
check out 'THE HEADPINS' Song : PEOPLE.........awesome bass solo.......the album version
You just need to get a hot tub time machine to take yourself back to the 80's.
You ought to check out Steve Stevens opening score from the movie, Top Gun ( Billy's guitar player )
❤❤❤
If you watch "Hot in the city" by Billy Idol, you'll feel even warmer. I promise.👍❤
Billy became huge in the 80s I don't remember him in the 70s
I seen him with the Who Quadrophenia tour, was awesome
Billy Idol was the artist name, but really it was a duo. The guitarist who I forget the name of now is an immensely talented musician who wrote the Top Gun theme. You can see the chemistry and showmanship between them. Credit where it is due. Dio had a similar thing going with his guitarist.
The guitarist ist Steve Stevens.
Want to have a look on France?! /// John Holiday- Same Generation!❤
Billy had a contemporary in Adam Ant, who also went from a lead singer with a band (Adam & The Ants 9:53 ) to a successful solo career. In AA's case though, I think he released better music before he left the band.
Check out "Dog Eat Dog" by Adam & The Ants. Their crossover look of Native American/Pirates was very eye-catching!
Check out the 80’s band Tesla, some of their popular songs are, Love Song, Little Suzi, What you give and Getting better 🤘🏻
I would strongly suggest to listrn into his record Kings and Queens of the Underground.
He seems to became a bit more grown up with some biograficial lyrics too.
You need to do howard jones what is love and new song from the 80s
You should check out his first band, Generation X.
If you like him here Millie, you'd love him in his video of To Be A Lover.
If you want a crazy bass line, listen to "Pumping on Steel"
New Yorker Steve Stevens on Guitar!!!
I recommend the live version of Domino Line by Casiopea. They are a very famous Jazz Fusion band in Japan, and that live song demonstrates the skills of all of them, especially in the bass solo.
most good music from the 70's. SO glad I was there to see all of it live
