McIntyre and McIntyre here (2 generations) enjoying your video, and our PX Cask. Subscribed. The Laphroaig Triple Wood is superb!
Thanks for the sub Rod! Always good to meet another McIntyre 🥃🙌
You know how I feel about the 10 sherry oak... I won't say anymore apart from I am disappointed. Great little battle mate!
The results were surprising to me, too mate. That’s what’s fun about putting whiskies side-by-side. You never know what’s gonna happen, different outcomes to tasting them on their own.
But what do you think about the PX? I really want to get one of them and still can´t decide 😁
I'm enjoying these two so much that I practically don't feel like drinking the "regular" Laphroaig anymore.
I know that feeling! The beauty is coming back around to the bourbon matured ones and being captivated by them all over again ☺️
I am really impressed with the 10 Sherry Oak Finish. I took it on holiday with me and drank a little too much sat next to a log fire. Really hit the mark for me. I do enjoy a dry finish, especially on peaty whiskies.
Love the Vs format. Great to hear your comparisons.
Thank you my friend, I love them both TBH, but had to pick one as the winner 😉
Thanks for another great video! I just watched your PX vs Portwood video. Both videos very helpful and I might get myself a bottle of PX eventually. It is interesting to see how taste differs among the comments though.
The beauty of whisky, we all have different flavours that resonate with us. If you like the same kind of whiskies I do you can't go wrong with either of these two.
Brilliant battle once again but I'm not surprised at the result. The PX is a brilliant combination of sweet and savoury. Unfortunately Laphroaig is guilty of using a lot of colouring in their whiskies and the 10 Sherry has some E150a in it, the PX doesn't so gets another point :) Cheers Wade 🥃
Thank you Sertug, I was a massive fan of the Sherry Oak 10... and then I tried the PX Cask.
I still enjoy the SO 10, but a little less now lol
@@thewhiskyenthusiast where you have found info about collouring?
@@VastitasE some online reviews and the general knowledge of Laphroaig adding colour and not denying doing so :)
I've seen a video of John Campbell of Laphroaig introducing the 10 year old sherry oak, saying that all of their whiskies 48% abv or above have no added colour & are non chill filtered.
@@nickashton3049 Well that's good but I'd like it if they put it on the bottle, you know to make it official
I would encourage dropping some water into the PX, or let a small tsp block of ice sit in this for 10min. It reduces the sweetness up front, and let's the salty peat shine first before the sweetness sneaks in the back door at the end to make it such a more balanced experience. I find straight, the sweetness is dominant up front and then switches immediately, too fast imo, to the salty notes. Great whiskey. I got for $140 on special in Duty Free Brisbane. Stoked.
Thank you for the recommendation Paul ☺️
I have opened Quarter cask and it’s very tasty, non chill filtered 48% and prize 40 EUR in Central Europe.
Quarter Cask on my list of reviews to come!
Great videos!! Can you make a video about the comparison between Laphroaig PX Cask to Laphroaig Lore please!
I managed to get a 1 liter Laphroaig PX Cask for US$99.50 (AU$155.00) last week in Duty Free Melbourne Australia airport before I flew home to New Zealand. Looking forward to trying it up against the Laphroaig 10 Year Sherry Oak Finish which I bought last year in Napier for US$94.00 (NZ$160.00). I’m half way through the 10 Sherry and haven’t opened the PX Cask yet.
Those are great prices! Keen to hear what you think and which one comes out on top for you 🥃
Great review!
Thanks Clinton, thought you would like this one when I saw your other comment about Laphroaig's I should check out!
I'm a fan of Laphroaig and I've got the 10 sherry oak but honestly I think they are overpriced for example I have the Ledaig Rioja and the Kilchoman Sanaig and they are on par in flavor maybe not in richness but there priced well. I do get a smokey dr pepper or berry cough medicine thing going on with the Laphroaig 10 Sherry very unique. Cheers mate
Hey mate, yes I agree and have both the Kilchoman Sanaig and the Ledaig Rioja and the are both exceptionally priced great value whiskies. Probably Laphroaig charges more because those two are no age statement, whilst this one is 10 years.
I have seen the Laphroaig 10 SO for typically $160 and even up to $200 (overpriced), but I managed to grab two bottles on clearance for $114 each, so at that price it's great value!
The Kilchoman Sanaig is amazing. The Ledaig Rioja on the other hand, I find it waaaay too young, too brash. I drank more than half of it and decided to only use the rest to blend with low ABV whiskies and make than more interesting. I usually get a better product than both whiskies used on the blend.
I used to wonder why the type of sherry (Pedro Ximenez/Oloroso) would be displayed on some whiskies and not others. But I have to say I almost always enjoy a whisky (especially peated) aged in PX, while other sherry cask releases can sometimes miss the mark.
Agreed, the further I get on my journey I’m starting to understand and appreciate the differences that different Sherry expressions make on different whiskies. It’s a fascinating drink isn’t it?
@@McIntyresMalts I could (and will) spend a lifetime exploring it :-)
@@thewhiskyscribe that makes two of us Nath! 🥃
The PX is so amazing
Isn't it! Trying to get my hands on the Cairdeas PX Cask Strength
Damn, whisky is high in your neck of the woods!
I had to come back because I tried both my 10 Sherry Oak and my Laphroaig PX again recently. In my humble and very personal opinion, the Laphroaig 10 Sherry Oak is on a whole other level than the PX, it doesn't even come close. And the mouthfeel on the PX is so watery even at 48%, I don't get it. The PX is currently my least favorite Laphoraig that I own. I feel like even the regular 10 and the Quarter Cask are better than this.
It's not bad though, just not nearly as good as the 10 Sherry Oak.
Agree to disagree my friend!
@@McIntyresMalts absolutely! Personal taste always.
I have both and I have to say the 10 Sherry Oak is the superior dram... I'm guessing the PX is younger whisky, so it shows. Also the PX is too sweet comparably. the 10 Sherry is a lot nuttier, has more body too.
I though that too, until I put them side by side, although I wouldn't be upset if you poured me a dram of either 😉
@@McIntyresMalts I'm going to have to try that. the 10 sherry I loved straight off the bat, but my first impression of the PX was horrible. It got much. much better after a week or so, but that "cotton candy" like note was too overwhelming when I first popped it opened, I did not enjoy that.
@@canal-do-guga-namura I actually think we had a very similar experience Bruno. I'm was a big fan of The Sherry Oak 10 from first taste, but my first taste of the PX Cask it was way too sweet, almost artificial in nature. After some time mine got better too. I went into this challenge expecting the SO10 would easily win and was surprised by the outcome, but I do have a preference for a sweeter PX sherry influence rather than a drier Oloroso.
Buenas Bro!!
@@McIntyresMalts tancks Bro:)🥃🥃
