Fulda Gap was the classic invasion route into Western Europe. In '68, the Russians (tanks) were on the outside, Americans (tanks) on the inside. My dad (3/12 Cav, Headquarters Troop, recon.) was lead for a gaggle of some sweet motherfuckers; they had tac-nukes in their tubes..just one word from the Colonel: Russians weren't coming through. (After the pols settled matters, the Green Jeans and the Ruskies met between the lines..exchanged trinkets, phew-smiles, etc. Just kids with girls back home, happy that they weren't vaporized. Earth is a bad business.. Stay strong, heroes; thanks for your service; only you walked the line. Some of us know it, and love you for it. Thank you.)
I remember that time. Glad it is over and 3rdww did not start. we were supposed to die in the first week. During manuevers we had very often casualties of covilians
