Instead of going through all that hassle you could just plug into input two which is a little bit less powerful than input one and takes care of that problem quite nicely. It seems most players never even think to plug into input two.
Having a 12AY7 in v1 and 12AT7 in V3 makes the volume knob much more effective, way moreso than using input #2. Like 500% more controllable sweep. I love input #2, though. It's like having a 5751 in v1, with slightly reduced treble.
I installed the Fromel Electronics "kit" for this Amp and replaced the stock speaker with a Weber Vintage ceramic. It changed the amp immensely. Now I can use the volume control and the drive channel is the best that I've used. I play a les paul.
@copperaudio9664 I got a BDRI in 2010 and put a Celestion Gold in it. Not cheap but it sure sounded good! Had to sell the amp a few years later. Hoping to buy a second BDRI for $650, tomorrow (11-12-24) Maybe soup it up, like the last one. First thing to go will be to put a blue jewel in mine, like I did the first one. 😊
If you put a 12AY7 in V1, 12AT7 in V3, and a 12AX7 (or 5751 for *slight* reduction in gain on drive channel) you get ultra cleans on clean channel, with a greatly improved sweep on the volume knob. V2 only affects the drive channel, so I like that to be stock, personally, as you can simply turn the drive knob down. Great video! I just thought of writing this comment because around 5 minutes in, you said something about "if you actually want overdrive on the drive channel," so figured I'd chime in! Cheers!
WOW!! At last , from what I detect from the video this "Wizard" ay7 and ecc82 thing makes that combo sound like a real Fender amp!! I wish I had a tutor like you at college when I was a sprogg. The enthusiasm with which you dig in to your work gives us those magic tones we like without having to use a wheelbarrel full of FX pedals. Nice one. Gonna do that "Wizard" valve jobby in mine asap.
I agree . All these Hot Rod , Blues Junior and the wonderful Pro Junior sound better and are more to my taste with combinations of the lower gain preamp tubes . You're no longer stuck with having to use the volume between 1 and 2 settings .
Hello, could it be that the reverb does not work on the clean channel but it does on the other channel? Thank you very much, excellent channel and I await your response.
Can I ask which is the best Fender Reverb to buy? There are so many. I like quiet- no buzz. I know I can replace caps and do various "fixes" but are there any well known years or models that are generally better designed than others?
For those of us that do not own this amp. In the comments section can you please describe the before and after tube swap. Sorry if this seems lame.. Thanks
Use a comma- not two sentences. Sorry- I hate poor grammar. ...amp, in the comments... Bottom line LC, better tubes make for better tone and dynamics. The popular tubes are very well known. Some are better and different than others so it is also a matter of taste.

😎👍 I'm about to do the same Fromel kit and a Celestion Gold speaker.

A "Healthier distortion" , I like it as it sounds more like the Fender tone of legend.

If you wanted to keep the volume and reduce the gain the 5751 is a great choice also

I do believe the stock preamps are all 12AX7 / ECC83

I put a 12AY7 in V1 first thing when I bought mine.
I've heard of this mod from Phil McKnight. Are you happy with better volume dynamics? Any other change? thanks.
Does changing with valve also affect the drive channel? Cheers :-)
@@SCOUSERONTOUR11 it seems to, l just wanted a loud clean tweed amp and this smoothed it out
It’s best to save more money for a Princeton reverb. The reissues are hybrid tube amps and they’re made with inferior parts and they don’t sound good.
mine is way to clean and loud
You’re not getting an accurate sound by having the speaker pointed towards the wall.
