The one thing that resonated with me in this movie, even as a kid, was that pollution cannot be totally eliminated . That’s why Hexxus could only be trapped, not destroyed.

I believe that the first animator was French animator Émile Cohl with the animated film: ‘Fantasmagorie’ in 1908. (It could be argued that British animator J. Stuart Blackton also could’ve made the first ever animation in 1906) Émile Cohl is also credited with having the first 2D animated film SHOWN in Japan called: ‘Les Exploits de Feu Follet’ in 1912. ANIME hadn’t started until 1916 with Astroboy by Shimokawa Oten. It’s more like Eastern Asia (Japan in this case) has their own version of Western (American/European) animation. HOWEVER, I do believe if America had stuck with 2D animation we’d have beautiful 2D films that could match Japan’s amazing skills. Cheers!
The beginning of this scene is quite intense for a children's film. We get a One-Winged Angel (TVTropes) transformation of Hexxus into a form that most literally embodies what he is, the physical manifestation of Death and Destruction, a polluted Grim Reaper.

This scene scared the bejeezus out of me as a kid
Me too.
Not me.
Same here that part of the movie freaks me out
I wouldn't say he's dead, he's only sealed within the tree, until some moron stupidly cuts it down, and it everything happens all over again.
@TheLatiosnlatias02 that's what I'm saying, the dude a literal spirit of chaos of death and destruction.
The leveler is sealed too!
@@shutterbug_713 I think you mean tree harvester, that's what that vehicle is.
Well, @@pauljordan0203, in the movie, Zack, Tony and Ralph called it a Leveler.
@@shutterbug_713 whatever, I call what I see.
I still have this on VHS and then bought the DVD edition. This movie is gorgeous ❤️

Hexxus: No! It cannot be! Not a prisoner of nature again! AAAAHHHH!!
Thank God for RUclips, so that I can return to all my childhood memories of all these old movies. What an amazing technology.
This new tree that Hexxus was trapped in are/is more beautiful than the first tree he was trapped in.
One of robin williams best played characters 😢 GOD I MISS HIM! R.I.P robin williams in my book he is right there in solid and i mean solid second place (first place belongs to Steve Irwin AKA The crocodile hunter) but they both left the world when the world shut our eyes from reality i am so sad i’m actually tearing up 🥺
Robin Williams didn't play Hexxus, he was played by Tim Curry
Robin is still a great actor/comedian though!
Hexxus looks like Ghost Rider with so much hell fire
Just rewatched this movie yesterday for the first time in a few years, this movie is one of the best animated movies I’ve ever seen, in my opinion this movie is VERY underrated! I loved this movie as a kid and I still do.
The man looks dead in the camera and smiles. That’s when you know you’re a badass lol
Hexxus was clearly imprisoned. But nice to see this scene again. I remember really being moved by it as a kid...
To anyone who doesn't care about the environment has never watched this movie and it shows.
I watched this movie as a kid and was rooting for Hexxus and the Leveller.
Still love them both lol
Watching this now, I'm realizing how much this movie was ahead of its time
This was my go to film about taking care of the environment when I was in school alongside Captain Planet.
Seeing Hexxus appear in this form was the most exciting part to me as a child. Even to this day, I grin just like he does.
The reason this movie stuck in my memory so well is because the animation of Hexxus.
Especially the sludge.
Hexxus was both hilarious and terrifying when I was a kid.
Is anyone gonna mention the fact that Ralph and Tony are not gonna get comped despite working serious overtime? Those guys were putting in work.
Fern Gully, showing the reality of the Plant Scourge on the earth, even Hexxus couldnt stand its ever-hungry growth
Love all the actors and actresses in this movie 🎥
Can we talk about how much I like the design of the leveler and his final form for a sec
The leveler was cool could you imagine if was a real machine in life plus I thought of making a model of it but trying to find pieces of things that look like it
@@shawndabelko187 it would be awful in real life, it's an overenginneered monstrosity that's liable to collapse under it's own weight, I don't even want to begin to imagine the amount of maintenance it would require.
@@themanformerlyknownascomme777 make sure you got plenty oil !
A real life leveller would be amazing
If you watch closely, the animation for after Hexxus starts growing plants is reused from Night on Bald Mountain from Fantasia.
Know what, props to Pips for leading the charge here. What a total Chad.
There's not enough love for Pips. He could have easily been crushed by Hexxus, but he showed everyone that they should finish what Crysta started.
This movie holds a special place in my heart and always will 💕
By far one of the most terrifying villains in a kids movie
Appearance and voice wise definitely but there are other villains who could give Hexxus a run for his money such as The Horned King, Claude Frollo, and Jenner.
@@chadpeterson5698 judge doom especially
@@chadpeterson5698The Nightmare King from Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland was pretty freaky as a kid too. Especially that demonic slug locked up behind that secret door.
Yo you just unlocked a part of my childhood
When the western world had their own version of anime.
And then came cgi..
Cheers!
@@arl3163 True, nice trivia
ironicly alot of 80's and early 90's western animation was done in japan
There's cgi in anime now too which is 50/50
@@arl3163that is correct! Fantasmagorie (1908) was the first fully animated short film and was drawn in chalk
0:23 has stuck with me ever since I was a kid. That smile gave me nightmares, no joke. They didn't have to go THAT hard lol.
Old American animation went hard, they don't do dark shit like this (figuratively and literally) anymore
I used to watch this part on repeat as a little kid. I thought Hexus looked so cool. My mom was concerned.
As a child this was the most terrifying thing but now I just look at hexxus and love it
I would be so down for a real life re-make of this movie with these characters and this story. Would be absolutely amazing.
Only if it was done with respect to this version and to the fans of the movie
hmm, not exactly but pretty close is Avatar
I got to admit, Hexxus’ final form is so metal
Dude Hexxus’s final form was metal as hell
Well he's a demon living of pollution.
The beginning of this scene is quite intense for a children's film. We get a One-Winged Angel (TVTropes) transformation of Hexxus into a form that most literally embodies what he is, the physical manifestation of Death and Destruction, a polluted Grim Reaper.
Rest In Peace Mr. Robin Williams 😇😇😇😇♥️♥️♥️♥️🙏🙏🙏🙏
I’ve always liked this movie but my only pet peeve is that hexxus’ final form was so cool looking but it felt like he was defeated too easily.
1:06 I started laughing when he realized the roots starting coming out of him 🤣🤣🤣🤣even pips reaction at 1:15 was hilarious
Hexxus changes with the toxic he comes in contact; started as a blob, after gaining energy grows a humanoid skeleton before turning into smoke and in the end he becomes flaming oil.
I wonder if one the forms seen is the original one.
The final form could have been used more.
Hexxus scared me as a child and now i find him so cool
Nothing more 90s than the envirotoon!
3:41 I love the handshake
Seeing Hexxus in a glob like form when he's released from his imprisonment reminds me of the symbiote from Spider Man 3 when it first lands on Earth.
@Goddess Shadow yeah
I love this movie lol but when i was a kid this is what i always thought happened when you ate seeds from plants.

“I WILL RETUUUUUUUUUUUUUURN!!!!” - _Birth of Evil_
@1:08 Hexxus removing the first branch off his head and looking at it, is the perfect look of realizing a bird pooped on your head! 😂
I was 11 years old in 1992 and "Once upon a forest" (1993) was another great movie about this nature topic animated movies.
I was obsessed with this movie when I was little. I remembered cheering for the fairies
Hexxus and Judge Doom are the terrifying baddies from films composed by Alan Silvestri
He started off as this little blob of tar with a funny voice, then turned into a sexy smoke man that has an A-Tier villain song, and then became a genuinely scary looking giant firey skeleton with a cloak of oil.
The animation is stunning for 1992 film
Hexxus has such an awesome design, across all forms.
He doesn't die, he's just sealed into the tree.
When he looked straight into the camera upon transforming, I wanted to curl up in a ball and die!
I think I felt my soul flee my body during that part.
This movie teaches you so much about life and respecting nature
It makes me happy just to see that other people even *know* about this movie 😊
I loved this movie as a kid
Love this movie
I remember this movie. When I was a kid I remember being terrified of Hexxus and having lots of nightmares.
Me too
God same. Had nightmares about Hexxus-like skeletons for YEARS 😅
I love how absolutely anti-climactic the end of this movie was. No big battle, no heroics, no special plot device, not even a one on one of Hexxus and the main characters. They defeated Hexxus by planting a seed... in toxic waste.
He becomes a mix between Dormamu, Ghost Rider, AND the Horned King
