Wow I had a dream about this the other night but I didn't know what it meant.
@@teekotrain6845 lol now it all comes together
Can that honey press be used for pressing apple and etc ?
Doug, I kept waiting for the hot bread! 😉👍 great video's
Awesome video thanks Doug!
Dr. Leo is the cure for short attention span. This hour flew by.
I think when Dr. Leo visits are my favorite videos, he is SO knowledgeable and explains everything so well, and I don’t even have bees. So glad you all invite him back and share so much knowledge. You are all so appreciated. Thank you. ❤️
Yay Dr. Leo and the bees 😊
Nice of Dr. Leo to help Doug considering his injury. The man is over 5 hours away. Your a good man Dr. Leo! I dream of the day I have my own apiary! Bought Keeping Bees with a smile and horizontal hive books from Leo's site! These videos are very much apricated.
Well are you ready? You should be building your boxs now
@@davecavana1031 i bvought my hive kit 12 years ago and just now got my bees lol
@@schlomoshekelstein908 my friend I'm delighted for you. Good luck with your journey. Don't forget to checker board as bees love to cross comb. Keep an eye on them but don't interfere with the brood area and all will be well.
Dr Leo is a hero. I look forward to his films so much. Thank you Doug and get better ribs soon.
I am 70 years old. This is first video of honey that is like when I grew up. I lived off grid and we collected honey in the winter out of dead trees deep in our forest. This was one of your best videos. I enjoy it so much
So great for doctor Leo to share his knowledge. Great to see someone who loves what he's doing
Thanks Doug for inviting Dr Leo to do this awesome back to basics educational video. I learned so much!
Ok so nice
"Where is our mommy?" I laughed so hard. Off Grid Gold!
The high frequency "squish" sounds from the Italian honey press were pure pleasure, unadulterated, but pure at the same time......
Doctor Leo is awesome! He’s so passionate about this subject and is a pleasure to watch. Please keep them coming!
Dr. Leo is amazing. He doesn't get stung. The bees must trust him.
If you have fear they can sense it. That makes them attack you.
He eats alot of honey, so smells like a bee.
Connie Gage ,
Dr. Leo trusts the bees as well . Stay quiet and calm and the bees will stay quiet and calm also . I have seen so many people get so agitated when a honey bee is around and begin swinging and batting at it until finally the bee does become agitated enough to sting them. Then the people will say see? If they would stay calm , the honey bee would just fly away because they are after all , not flowers.
THIS is the kind of honey production that I am interested in for myself. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I am impressed with Dr. Leo his knowledge of beekeeping is unsurpassed
Your podcasts are an educational breath of fresh air.
I love it when you have a video with Dr. Leo. He is so knowledgeable and gentle with the bees. And, no, I had never heard of bee bread or of pressing honey before. Thanks, Doug and Dr. Leo, for the great information!
WoW! Thank you Doug and Stacy for bringing Dr. Leo and Horizontal Hive to teach us. Get Well Mr. Doug!
My Dad kept bees like his father before him. Growing up I have fond memories working with the bees, retrieving swarms from trees & old houses. We always hand pressed the comb and strained it with a wire strainer so as not to filter out too much of the good stuff. After not having bees (or honey as I remember it) for 35 years or so, I just retired and I ordered a Nuc box from Dr. Leo’s site-it is very strong and well constructed. Currently it’s sitting in a tree at the edge of a field waiting on a swarm which I hope will happen soon as there were scout bees checking it out when I put in the base comb and as I was strapping it to the tree! Thanks for all these informative videos and Dr. Leo’s expertise.
let us know if it's successful since scout bees were already checking it out.
@@karenwilliams5724 almost three weeks and nothing yet.
Thank you Dr. Leo, for helping Doug with his bee's and honey! What a wonderful friend and a good community to help one another. Dr. Leo is just so smart and I just love listening and learning from him. I love the press as well.
I was laughing so hard when the guineas were putting their 2 cents worth in and then when Doug told them to shut up that was priceless. Great info, thank you
🤣
When my husband and I were much younger, we managed a little golf course and drive range. As payment, we lived in an apartment (that was attached to the Pro shop) with water, electric, heat, and garbage all taken care of by the owners. It was difficult to get much sleep there, however, after 4 am because the masses of birds around the place would get so LOUD about then. The golf course was surrounded by beautiful woods, looking like a virtual paradise. So my husband would get up from time to time and yell, “SHUUUUUUUUT UUUUUUUP!” at the birds. Then they would. Hahahahaha! Eventually, the birds learned not to bug us so much to where he didn’t have to go out and yell at them anymore.
I chuckled because I had literally just watched an old vid where Doug was reminiscing about how much he loves the noise they make 😂😂
Dr. Leo always has such great information. Thank you Doug and Stacy for sharing him and his wisdom with us.
I'm amazed at how Dr Leo works with the bees. I personally don't have Bee Hives, but admire anyone that does. I do buy honey from my local Bee Keepers.
Doug take care of yourself, let those ribs heal.🙏🙏 Have a blessed day stay safe and healthy 🙏🥰👍👌🙏🦅🔔🗽🇺🇸🙏🇺🇸👌🇺🇸
My dad kept bees and we always loved the honey in the comb best.
Doug, Dr. Leo, I never cease to be amazed by the working with bees! Dr. Leo's tempo around the bees is amazing. Doug, that was a hard stretch for you! Pay attention! Regards Stephen.
Always enjoy Dr Leo’s visits.
wow wow wow I am in nerd heaven...cannot wait to do this! TY
I'm not a bee keeper, but I love honey and I use a lot of it. I find these videos very interesting and I've learned a lot. I get local honey and when I speak with the bee keepers now I can understand what they are tslking about. Keep them coming!
I flat out love this. Learnt buckets of new things and it begins to makes so much more sense! Awesome 😃🐝
Really appreciate all the time and energy you put into these informative bee keeping videos with Dr. Leo. Loving how much you care about doing bee keeping right. Thank you!🐝
I took beekeeping while at college years ago, but didn't learn about a press, this has been so interesting.
Great show! I have heard all of what was talked about, but when Dr. Leo explains it and shows it, it all makes sense. So keep Dr. Leo as a guest. He is a treasure to the bee community!
Dr. Leo shares all sorts of information that you never get from the conventional, Layens Hive community! Thank you these videos, Doug.
Thank you Doug and Dr.Leo for all you do , You guys are the only 2 I trust on the info you give to start my natural beekeeping journey
Doug,... Dr. Leo... Wow. Just WOW! What a great video! Thank you so much Doug. I know you are still in pain, and doing this video must have cost you. But thank you. I am blown away by how much info you were able to pack into this. Dr. Leo you show/teach so much about bees and honey/health. Thank you. You two are a blessing to those of us who hunger for this knowledge. Take care you two, (and Stacey!). And again, thank you for what you do.
Learned so much from you and Dr. Leo today Doug. Hope those ribs are all better by now!
Thanks, doing better but still feel it
Love the ‘bee’ videos. Thank you. X
I could listen to Dr. Leo all day. Thanks for sharing such great information.
Dr. Leo was so amazing! I love how scientific he was about the whole process. I'm amazed at how old lost skills like harvesting honey are so in line with nature. This really helps show how everything is connected. Thanks.
My Dad raised bees. Now, I am encouraged to follow his footsteps!
I've learned more about bees and honey from two of these videos than all the others I've watched!
Thank you for bringing us these honey bee 🐝 tips. Very knowledgeable. 🐝🌸
I have heard of Bee bread, but only on the Doug and Stacy videos! Many thanks to Dr Leo, while I am not yet a beekeeper, I will be one day :-) and when that day finally arrives I will have a litany of information that has been provided by Doug and Stacy and Dr Leo. Thank you all so very much!
Hi..... DOUG, thank you for sharing your video homestead 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 🎥👍👍👍
Dr. Leo is great! Love your videos with him. He is so informative and it’s amazing to watch him with the bees and the hives! Appreciate you sharing Doug, and hope you’re healing quickly...maybe rub some of that beebread on them😉
Thanks Doug! We will be seeing dr Leo this weekend at his workshop.
Such great information, and doing it the natural way, very much a blessing! 🙋♀️🐴🍃
OFF GRID with Doug and Stacy appreciate your videos Listening from Mass USA TYVM ♥️ Doug w/Bee-keeping Dr. LEO
Absolutely awesome video! I totally loved it. Thank you Doug for introducing us to Dr Leo. So, so informative. You have got me hooked now on the search for high quality stuff: I Want My Honey....🍯
Absolutely fascinating!! Thank you for sharing. I was raised as a child on a Minnesota Dairy Farm. Our farmhouse had a natural bee hive that developed between the two story's of the house. It wasn't until we saw the honey combs developing within the ceiling light fixtures that it was decided that something had to be done. A member of our 4-H Club was a beekeeper. He helped us by causing the hive to swarm. The swarm went to the top of a nearby very tall cedar tree. I will never forget seeing the treetop bending over from the sheer weight of the bees. The queen was eventually captured, along with the majority of the swarm. They also went into the eves of the house and removed hundreds of pounds of honey comb. The hive never totally disappeared. There were still enough bees to sing me to sleep at night.
Dr Leo does such a great job and as an educator. Several yrs ago on your channel i got hooked on bees. Please keep him coming back and back again.
Thank you gentlemen. I just ordered a jar of Bee Bread Honey. Very special.
Just want you to know ... how much I really appreciate your videos on bees, with your expert Dr. Leo input. Thanx - and best wishes for your rapid, total bone healing Doug. :)
Thanks!
I love honey, but I'm afraid of BEEs 😟. Wish I could do this.
Although... 🤔 I think it's easier to find Waldo, than to find the Queen bee.
I wish all you bee keepers much success🙏!
I love learning from Dr. Leo ... This hive looks so great. Such good information today. This is amazing!!! I love the honey press method, I have learned so very much. Thank you Dr. Leo! and Doug
for being such a good natural bee keeper. I would not want to filter the honey either. Amazing, there must be very little nutrition in the store bought honey. That is amazing ... yes millet it does look like it. So glad to learn this, many thanks. So true Doug!, I have kept bees and a member of our local bee association and have never learned what I have learned from Dr. Leo today. Excellent!!!
First time watching honey being pressed and also examined through a microscope too! I cant wait to start a hive next spring. This is my educational year of planning and getting ready 🐝🐝🐝
Praying for a fast recovery for you Doug.
I know these things as a beekeeper but I always love watching Dr: Leo because he is straight up and very knowledgeable. My favorite . Thank you .
Dr. Leo is so educational with information on bee keeping. I can't get over how he is not wearing protective clothes to prevent bee stings Dug too! I get very large welts when I get stung. Allergic to wasps, bees, ants, and misquote pretty much any insect bit or sting. I love honey 🍯 💗 I understand it actually helps with allergies. Thanks for sharing your honey Dug and Stacy, and Dr. Leo for educating us.
Debbie Simonson ,
Most people are allergic to insect bites to some extent. Some people more than others. Not long ago I had a friend at my home. She had a spider on her blouse and was freaking out. It was a pretty good sized spider. I plucked it off of her blouse and the darned thing bit me ! Which hurt ! A lot !! However , the pain from the bite only lasted for five or ten minutes and went away. My first time being bitten by a spider. Another time while riding a motorcycle near an orange grove ( orange blossom honey ) a honey bee flew under my collar. It did not sting me until I tried to brush it out from my collar. Then it stung me on the side of my neck. I expected a large welt that would last for hours. Instead the welt was about the thickness and size of a dime. Gone in half an hour. As I have said , some people more than others.
🐝 Dr Leo's Bee
Keeping Masterclass 🐝 👌💕
I knew about pressing but I watch a lot of bee keepers.
I just bought 20 acres and plan to keep bees.
This series has blown my mind. I’m buying all the books. Unreal. Please keep these videos coming.
Always learn so much from Dr Leo. Great video! Would love to raise our own Bees. Blessings
I got told today by a conventional Beekeeper today that catching a wild swarm was not the way to go. I told him that we should compare notes next year after I catch my first swarm. Thank you for all the wonderful videos. It helps me understand beekeeping with a smile to hack actually see you do it Dr. Leo.
A whole hour with Dr. Leo 😍 So much great info as always!! My parents would spin their honey and I hadn't heard of pressing. Thanks!
Thanks! Boy that hour went by fast!
I had never cared for honey from a store, but as a child, I only liked it straight off a comb when my grandfather would rob his hives. I think you have just explained why. I always thought I had some sort of weird preference for the wax.
I'm a first year beekeeper from Springfield, MO. I found out about Dr. Leo from watching your videos.
One thing I've learned in my first year so far is how complicated keeping bees in a Langstroth can be. Our club president Likes to say, "Ask the same question to 10 beekeepers and you will get 10 different answers."
As you would imagine, this makes beekeeping very intimidating to the new person. It's also increases the barrier to entry between the difficulty and the expense of Langstroth hives. All of this to have a greater risk of losing your hives over winter.
Anyway, I'm not saying it shouldn't be done this way, but it does feel like a honey first approach versus a bee first approach, which is why I have been listening to everything I can find from Dr. Leo. The things he talks about make so much sense to me and it removes a lot of the variables that can lead to failure.
Dr Leo. Thank you for being such a good advocate for the bees and for inspiring new beekeepers to not give up. I really do hope to come to one of your events some day and absorb as much knowledge as possible. From one Ozarkian to another. Thank you!
What an amazingly entertaining and informative video. I've been really considering getting into beekeeping here in southern Illinois, and this was fantastic covering many aspects of beekeeping. Thanks to you all! Keep them coming!
My father was a bee keeper and provided pollination for Farmers as well in his later years he loved it he said he was so relaxed he never thought that he could get along with what he used to just call a bunch of bugs but what became of very interesting Hobby
Doug Thank You! for the special effect on pointing out the queen. Big fan when you have Dr. Leo on!
God is so awesome....humans could never have come up with this! This sure wasn’t happenstance! Thanks for sharing.
Amen
humans would've never come up with cancer either. And before you say cancer is caused by diet n' shit, babies get cancer. And before you say it's a "test", that's a shit thing to say, those babies deserve better.
Its like people forget theres a devil
Bee keeping is the BEST hobby, because of the benefits to mankind.
An absolutely brilliant video. That honey pressed like that looks raw raw raw.
I always learn so much from Dr Leo’s videos, Thank You for contributing so much to the horizontal hive community. Also Doug Thanks for hosting everything.
I'd love for Dr. Leo to start his own RUclips channel. Since I saw him working on your beehives here, I wanted to do this type of hive of my own property. I'll be building them this winter!
This was really a fascinating video!! I won't be raising bees but I learned so much from watching this and no, I had never heard about bee bread or pressing honey. Thank you!
Thanks to Doug, Dr Leo and the Bees.
LOVE, LOVE THIS VIDEO. After being at the home steading conference in April... took the bee keeping seminar and this make so much more sense.
I missed this video last year and decided to look for Dr. Leo Sharashkin and this came up.
If my husband wasn't allergic to 🐝, I would love to do this. Dr. Leo, thank you for the lessons!
Thank you Dr. Leo! AMAZING!! Thank you Doug and Stacy for making all this knowledge available!

These videos are worth so much to us. Thank you Dr. Leo for providing this wisdom.

Very cool! Thanks for sharing! Praying for speedy healing on those ribs!
I always look forward to Dr Leo's visits to your farm. Bees are fascinating and if I was younger with my own place I'd love to raise bees. Honey is so good for you and I believe eating local honey helps fight off or minimize allergies.
Never heard of bees bread, never knew they pressed bee cones. GREAT information,. Thanks for shareing.
Wow. I’m so glad I haven’t jumped into beekeeping without watching this. I’ve never heard of bee bread or horizontal hives. Thanks for sharing this valuable information. Amazing.
Oh I’m having such a great day binge watching Off Grid with Doug and Stacy! I just wish I had some popcorn to go with my chocolate tea 🤣😂👍
Excellent as usual!!! Thanks Dr Leo!... and you too Doug!
Thanks so much Doug and Dr leo. I have my first horizontal hives ready for swarms. So excited.
Thanks DR.Leo you are 1 smart dude appreciate the knowledge you and Doug provide get well very soon Doug god bless
So very interesting learning basic differences between extracted & pressed honey. Dr. Leo ….. what a great bee educator. Thanks !!!
I have watched every video with Dr. Leo! Can't wait to attend his conference in April this year!
This is great info about the bees. Never heard of the press. Keep it buzzing!
I know this is an older post...but just want to report! I've been watching you guys since long before Dr Leo, even...but when he came along I was so inspired to try bees. I'd been trying to add a healthy sweetener to my homestead and tried sorghum. It grew well but it was too labor intensive for me in my 60s. I learned a lot from Dr Leo and Doug working the bees and extracting through the press, which I have. So last year I set up a horizontal Langstroth and my bees did great and made it through a very cold winter here in Idaho (at least they came out for a cleansing flight just before we went back into harsh conditions. I can't wait to order a layens give from Dr. Leo...but thank you all for giving me inspiration and confidence! Yay HONEY!!! NO homestead should be without it.
