Definitely looking forward for that static fire action even if it's 1 engine at a time for a start stated by Elon. For the NASA's Psyche mission, it's a pity that we lost another falcon heavy launch this year. I really hope that we don't lose anymore falcon heavy missions this year. The most infuriating thing about the Ariane 5 launch coverage is that up until 2 years ago they used to have some of the best launch coverage in the business.
    They never had any live onboard cameras, but other than that, in terms of presentation, provided data, expert commentary, etc. they were even better than what SpaceX provided at the time.
    But then they "improved" things with their "road to space" show.
    Now we get this shitshow, where instead of showing a rocket launch they just show some random people watching a rocket launch.
    And instead of expert commentary we have 2 of those people pretending to be idiots and asking the most obvious questions, so that the third person can pretend he has to explain things to them. Except he never really explains anything since he stops at least twice per sentence when he gets interrupted by callouts by the launch director. Callouts that would be really interesting for everybody watching the launch, but you need to understand french since they dont have time to translate them while they are in the middle of pretending to be idiots.

    • @BrianKelsay
      @BrianKelsay 2 года назад +14

      Exactly. Shitshow is the best term. They switch back and forth English to French, mostly French with all the science descriptions and I have no idea what's going on. You cant see anything as you just see the panel discussion with a tiny rocket vid in the corner. At times it was just a render. Ariane needs to learn how to inspire with their presentation. It might be smart for them to have two streams, english and French. Have the important stuff pre-translated. Look at how well Rocket Lab and SpaceX do it. They have their presentation timing down with pauses as control msgs come out. Just two presenters taking turns so its not all over the place. Best to have the science explained before and after the rocket launch. Hell, do it again during the 20 min hold, not while the bird is in flight and we are trying to watch it. And during the entire hold, they are blocking view of the rocket on the pad with a message block. Amatuers.

      The enthusiasm for Apollo was never as great as later mythmaking makes out. Apollo only had majority popular support for a brief period in 1968 and '69. To those of us who were excited about it, it was fantastically exciting. Most other people though, were either opposed or indifferent. The actual event of Apollo 11, of course, really caught people's attention. A firmer astronaut used to host a radio talk show here in Houston. I heard him tell a story once. He said it was during the Apollo 11 mission. There were a group of protesters at JSC. That made for bad publicity, so somebody figured out a way to get them out of public view. It was a HOT day in Houston (that much I remember). Somebody went out to the protesters and offered to let them continue their protest in the theater of the visitors' center, where it was *air conditioned,* and they had access to food and water. They may have been left wing, anti space nuts, but they weren't stupid. they accepted. So they sat in the theater, singing their stupid protest songs and chanting their anger. As the LM approached the surface however, the noise died down. It got quieter and quieter. Finally, when Armstrong said, "Houston, Tranquility Base here, Eagle has landed," they burst into cheers. Such a singular event brings people together in a singular way. It doesn't last though.

      I originally (last year) expected starship first, but SLS is looking really close. At this point, I'm expecting SLS to barely beat starship to launch.

    Another great episode of Space related news. This really keeps me updated what's going on. Also, this kind of videos makes me improve my skills in designing and building better structure of everything I make. Yeah, I am a DJ, but I am also PhD in Astrophysics. Thanks Markus for keeping me updated on what's going on with the space community. I really love it. I hope to build by dream some day and invite you to show it to the world, because you are great in what you are doing.
    Be blessed.

    I wonder whats going through the minds of the management at Roscosmos, the "Broomsticks" seem to be doing a way better job than the big Russian rockets.

      I'm curious who came up with the name Arianespace with space nearly the same sounding as race. :-/ Does anyone review anything anymore?
      Take the SLS for example, I mean, sure, we tested 85% of the SLS rocket in WDR, that's close enough, let's launch it...
      They either think this their last shot, or they are not too bright. Probably a bit of both.

      The FAA is the lead agency with NASA, the Army Corps of Engineers, the US Coast Guard, the US Fish and Wildlife Service, and the National Park Service all involved from the beginning. With 6 different goverment agencies involved, it is not surprising that the review took time. Musk asking everyone to comment, over 18,000 comments were received, didn't help. Consultations were mentioned for a third time on Apr 29th and mitigations for the first time, so some issues did come up and SpaceX has been working out a solution with whichever agency or agencies cover the issue. The Permitting Dashboard: Federal Infrastructue Projects has 5 sections to the FAA review. The first was completed in Oct 2021, second in Jan 2022, third in Apr 2022, fourth in May 2022, and fifth in Jun 2022, so there was continual progress.
