I used to go to the Sunday Teenage raves at the Christchurch Town Hall; the Blams, Hip Singles, Mockers, Exponents all played. As a 14 years old it was simply epic...
Don's mum was a councillor at my high school north of Auckland in the early 80s and often talked about her son who plays in a band blam blam blam.she was a treasure and I'll never forget her
Watched and sang and danced at the Blams Wellington gig at Meow in 2019 wonderful- top musicians still, Don playing tenor horn and drums, Tim Mahon was tight as on bass and the remarkable Mr Bell on guitar- they'd done a countrywide tour- had prepped real well and their complex arrangements sounded just brilliant.
I first heard this in late ‘86 I Love This So Much I didn’t know who it was for decades But Thank God for the Internet Their choice of Off Notes for this piece was so Good I love the full wet reverb choir with the laugh at the end - So mid ‘80s It would have been really nice if they had continued down this road
i grew up around these guys ...deeply embedded in New Zealander culture...particularly if you lived or worked on dominion road ...auckland.....nostalgia
Very delicious and I can't help but wonder if it was lurking in the back of Eddie Vedder's mind when he wrote "I know you'll be a star in somebody else's sky but why ... can't it be mine?
Should Have conquered the world. So sad what happened to Tim's hand in that tour accident way back when. Glad to hear he's back playing bass again. These guys didn't have a bad song. I have them all. 'Luxury Length' is 100% class.
So good. I didn't really get into the blams at the time that they were around but now I don't know why. I always found Mark Bell to be an interesting but very pleasant guy. Simon Daubney once told me that he and Mark pulled out of a sailing race because they ran out of cigarettes. Somehow it didn't surprise me that they would do the unintentional.

A friend of mine was the flatmate/houseminder of the lead on that show. It was a big fancy ass house adjacent to Lake Pupuke. Had some really good parties there. Never saw the TV star, but he had a fifteen foot tall poster of himself on the wall of the two story lounge.
The writer/singer said, of the song when interviewed "This one came out of nowhere. It is sort of an imitation of early Talking Heads lyric approaches where you have a really unsympathetic character standing up and stating his case - like Psycho Killer. I was listening to Talking Heads quite a bit and XTC. I don't know where 'five blue figures in a white circle' came from."
Three quarters of a three piece.... Hmmmm. No styling budget for the poor old drum machine. Typical. Brain the size of a planet, and they couldn't even be bothered getting it some slacks.

Indie kids fashion never changes
The jumpers are always cool Indie fashion wear :)
I remember going home to change out of my Kinko's uniform to put on a Postman's Jacket to go out to a show.
Look at how old they were, and listen to the production - this is so brilliant, and could be released as is, today.

I just can't even 😢 my music 🎵 flying nun days

OMG, can't believe this exists. It's brilliant.
Such amazing Talent amongst these 3
i grew up around these guys ...deeply embedded in New Zealander culture...particularly if you lived or worked on dominion road ...auckland.....nostalgia
in a half way house?
I went through rehab in the '80s.
And stayed in a 1/2 way house bordering Eden Park... Spitting distance from Dominion Road.
I found this song through a New Zealand radio station. love that it has history :)
Ah ! Bell, Mahon and McGlashan. Never recorded a weak song. Never.
"I want you to be happy... but I'd rather you were still with me..." How delicious is that?
I couldn't possibly say, Your Honour...
Genius. Matched by the music.
Very delicious and I can't help but wonder if it was lurking in the back of Eddie Vedder's mind when he wrote "I know you'll be a star in somebody else's sky
but why ... can't it be mine?
Even now this holds up as a great video - low tech, but it still has all the elements required!
i've unwittingly looked like every member of this band at some point. i didnt know who they were until today. atm i'm tim
good music tho
Outstanding. Never gets old. And the girl breaking character and laughing 2:50 always makes me happy.
This is a really great and somehow mysterious song.
There's five blue figures on a white circle
They're making agreements
They're keeping each other in line
It reminds me of the Fall, not the singing but parts of the guitar music and even parts of this video in a fall song I saw
Dude, they are nothing like the fall. What ya tripping on.
No, seriously, that is a major brain fart right there.
I never appreciated this song for how good it is.
Mighty Blams...
such cool music..
Don possessed by the spirit of 80's dance!
Brilliant 👏 👏 ❤❤❤
Should Have conquered the world. So sad what happened to Tim's hand in that tour accident way back when. Glad to hear he's back playing bass again.
These guys didn't have a bad song. I have them all. 'Luxury Length' is 100% class.
Awesome to see this!
Wow havent heard this since the 80s -thnk you for the post!
Started at Rossmini collage on the shore as a school group 👍👍👍

takes me way way back. CLASSIC
No kidding... Donnie looking incredibly young here. I'm used to seeing him in his Mutton Birds days.
Really good that.
Never 'erd of 'em tho.
Iv always liked this,...remember the Reverb room night club, yep I was there & always too drunk lol
One of my favorites.
oh man this song takes me back. had this on 45rpm when it first came out
I love this group😀. They remind me of a swinger version of AH-HA😎
A helluva song, simply stellar! Thanks
Been looking for this for ages ... thanks so much for putting it up.
You have to like this. In a pre-Facebook sense of the word like.

This sounds a lot like Joy Division and Echo & the Bunnymen combined... cool, dark vibes
What a banger.
This honestly just makes me proud to be a Kiwi.
Auckland Uni :)
Very Len Lye.
I just found this video, and wondered if anyone else would pick that influence up.
Holy Horned Hand-signs Batman!... Was that Don McGlashan throwing us a mano cornuto at 2:00?!
Classic
gotta give them extra points for matching Rikkies!!!!!!
ooh....as in rickenbacker??took me a while to get there
they did a great version of the Dr Who theme. I think it might have been the bside to this
❤❤❤
best music
Love it.
So sweet and edgy ❤
Have started my EOTWP; end of rhe world party!
Anyone with me in spirit?
preferably I expire before the planet 😂
How punk 😂
Gee...Michael Hurst is so young in this...he is so hilarious at times and what an amazing actor, who remembers Hercules the Legendary Journey's?
I worked on that show for a little while,.. the biggest fan of Michael Hurst seemed to be Michael Hurst

Love Tims parka, and are those Levi Sta-prest ?
Classic video ! Love Blam Blam Blam !
Strange kinda song with the video, reminds me of a video by The Fall
Vampire Weekend take notice.
"Is it in everyone's interests?"
NIU ZILLAND!!!!!
What is the meaning of the “five blue figures on a white circle”?
The writer/singer said, of the song when interviewed "This one came out of nowhere. Reminds me of The Fall, not so much the singing but the music does. Mark e smith could easily have sang this. Even the video is Fall like
Drama School Lunatics xx
shit hot
K'rd 2019 colourised.
Aah mis-spent youth hehehe
It’s kinda like the talking heads mixed with the zombies
Rickenbackers !
About the business round table perhaps? Or the permanent members of the security council even? Whatever one wants it to be I guess.
Peter Mateer I want you to be happy but I'd rather you were still with me.
US foreign policy? Perhaps we can regime change something?
You know what would go good with this song? A small tuba.
luxury length was a great album, better than the swingers
Offbeat to say the least.. I don't know about the indie fashion comments, but it appears the Moddy boy memo reached three quarters of the band.
Three quarters of a three piece.... Hmmmm. No styling budget for the poor old drum machine. Typical.
Brain the size of a planet, and they couldn't even be bothered getting it some slacks.
If you ever needed proof that gingers have no soul, HERE IT IS.
I d'like the song but not very much the goofy dance with the gaffophone...
❤❤❤❤
