  • Jag HID Bulb replacement Part 2 - D3S [MY12]
    Sorry this LONG video !!
    I have had the same HID bulb since owning the car. HID bulbs I have read typically show their age after 4 years so it really is time for a new bulb. I've made this into 2 parts as its a little complicated and I wanted to show all the steps you might have to take.
    Here is how you replace the bulb in an Jaguar XF - Facelift. It's not easy!!! The bulb is an OSRAM D3S as is the OEM one (4200K approx) 35W. With 4 year warranty.
    Take you're time and find the bolts and nuts to remove.
    Suggest releasing all the nuts for the bumper, then move on to the nut at the rear of the light.
    If helpful ... Like and Subscribe... Many thanks J

    Thankyou Joe, the information was gratefully received, so different to the previous years model. Spent over an hour at Halfords. They couldn't do it as it needed to touch the bumper, which they are not allowed to do.

    Nice video Joe. Good to show the little hiccups too. Important bits for the DIY'er to know. What a faff to change a bulb though. Thanks for taking the time to do this

    Joe, thank you so much for this video. You have saved me a whole heap of time, swearing and skinned knuckles! I have a 2014 XF and the light output is frankly dreadful, so I've just blown my on-call payments on a set Xenarc Night Breakers.

    Great video, this is also needed if your headlight wash fails (believe that is an mot failure with hid lights) so while headlight is out as a minimum flush them through they are only held in with 3 torx screws.

    Just checked this out as travelling to Europe and looking for spare bulb kit for my 2014 sportbrake. That is a mission of a job not a side of the road job

      Hi Wayne, definitely not a road side fix. This French law is very old and probably out of date for modern cars. I believe people just buy a general bulb kit have in the car. when we went to France in Feb 2020 that what we did. No one stopped or asked so not sure if this would have worked!! Maybe others can comment?

    I have replaced mine a few times without removing the headlight. I moved the air filter box a bit. It’s a MY12 XF-S 3.0D.

      @joewoodford9428  3 года назад

      @Hamed H, Are your headlight the classic or facelifted J-Lights? Before changing the bulbs I read a lot of forum posts and they all indicated you could not get easy access to the bulb unless you are a contortionist. If you managed to well done, I did not want to risking damaging an expensive bulb so taking the headlight out first made sense to me.

      @@joewoodford9428 it’s like yours. X250 Facelift HID. I did it a few times (after marker bulb died in 9months and I did it on road side when police stopped me on Christmas Eve!). Right hand is 2mins. Left hand 5mins. The ballast cable is long enough to manoeuvre the bulb and take it out. The collar ring could be rotated to lock and unlock from out side. For connector I used a right angle pliers.

    You do not need to remove the bumper in order to change the HID lightbulbs, I've just done mine, the front left one was a little bit tight, but it went fine.

  • @kengallen

    Do you have any advice for what happens if the headlight doesn't work and it is neither the ballast nor the bulb? It's only on one side (passenger side - I'm in Canada, so it would opposite of yours) I've heard it could be a ground, a relay, a fuse - thoughts?

    • @joewoodford9428
      @joewoodford9428  4 года назад +1

      @Allen Keng, do you have access to a digital multi meter? If so you might be able to measure if there is anything be sent to the headlight socket. I have also read up on some Forums about grounding issue with the blast, which could also be checked via a DMM using the continuity test. This link might help as it shows the light socket schematic www.jaguarforum.com/showthread.php?t=80155&page=3, if this helped please think to Like and Subto the channel !!! Cheers Joe

    Can do you do this method the same way to replace an indicator blub? As I was advised the unit is sealed and therefore you need to buy a whole new headlight unit ?

    • @joewoodford9428
      @joewoodford9428  3 года назад

      @Adam J Macrea, if the indicator has failed they are right its a whole new headlight unit. I have seen a few on RUclipsrs who have separated the clear lens from the black backing using a heat box for other headlights to access the bulbs or LEDs. I'm not sure how you fix the indicator as its an LED. Sorry !

      I have the same issue right now and the headlights are so expensive. I bought a used headlight, all the bulbs are working but the clips on the headlight are all broken even where the screw is at the back.

    There is difference in color temperature between bulb type, for D1S new osram bulb is 4250K and D3S around 4500K. There is data sheet on osram site as I remember.

    • @joewoodford9428
      @joewoodford9428  3 года назад +1

      @GuessWho1830 , My XF was fitted as standard from factory with Osram D3S. So a D1S will not fit to my vehicle as I understand it. Maybe older models used that bulb, pre-face?

    • @GuessWho183
      @GuessWho183 3 года назад

      @@joewoodford9428 I know that, just telling you that d3s orsram bulb is closer to 4500K temp in d3s variant from the box.

    Don't need to take headlights. One side can do just bulb other remove or slightly push air filter box.

    • @joewoodford9428

      Good luck if you can, you are likely to damage the HID if you don't remove the whole headlight. Thanks Joe

      I had this issue with by Freelander 2 (car before the XF), there are DIY hacks probably not recommended (silver thermal pumper pipe tap). Best bet is a replacement unit these guys might help oemxenonshop@gmail.com. I Google the issue and came across them (not used them).
