I often find myself having to rewatch Directs a second time because of this
“E3 needs Sony more than Sony needs E3.” I think that’s more lowercase “a” accurate rather than capitol “T” True. I have owned Sony and Microsoft consoles. I have purchased games for those consoles, and been excited to hear when more are on the horizon. In short, I am a consumer of these two companies(one more so than the other)… but I wouldn’t go as far as to say I’m a fan. There’s no specific reason why, but I just can’t bring myself to care as much about these companies as much as the mascot machine that is Nintendo. Fun Fact: I am not a Legend of Zelda fan. I’ve picked up and put back down two separate entries in the series(including BotW), and have concluded to my satisfaction that the series doesn’t appear to be for me. And yet, this time last year(give or take a month) when the Link’s Awakening remake was revealed, I was stoked. Not interested, but excited to see Nintendo release what by all accounts looked to be another winner into the wild. Nintendo has the IP power to make me give a damn for series I don’t particularly care for. Sony could, but presently does not. I’ve never particularly cared about their State of Plays, and none of my preferred news outlets(this channel included) seem to either, at least to the extent that I’ve only ever seen announcements of reveals, and never of the State of Play(time/date) itself. Even if I did know, I doubt I’d bother as I just don’t feel the value proposition on hand is necessarily worth my time. E3 gives me the confidence to dive in for companies I otherwise could care less about, under the good faith assumption that this venue merits high tiered announcements. And even if far from every reveal is a winner, I remember the conferences far more for the Ghosts of Tsushima and Resident Evil 2s than I do the Days Gone. Take away the venue, and suddenly Resident Evil 3’s coming out in March, and because I missed that first visceral dose of hype, I’m left just undeniably caring less. In short, E3 lets me try being a Sony fan for an evening, let’s me hold onto any spoils I happen to find, but doesn’t care if I go back to my indifference tomorrow. For a company that’s always going for the silver medal, that sort of venue is invaluable.
I think you hit the nail on the head. E3 allows me to get potentially hyped and excited for things I might not normally get excited for because of the venue in which they are announced (an E3 press conference). I thought Microsoft and Nintendo did a good job of taking advantage of that feeling last year (especially with Sony gone), and I believe they will both do that again this year. I may even end up being more hyped for Series X as opposed to PS5 for that reason and because of Xbox/PC Game Pass which I think is great (though the Game Awards reveal was meh).
Sony's absence was keenly felt last year, since they usually had really good shows previously. It's disappointing to hear they'll repeat that again this year.
I don't think Nintendo will skip E3 this year. The Nintendo Treehouse Events at E3 can create just as much Hype as the actual game announcement. I don't think Nintendo would give that up.
It's not just the coverage, but leakers have been ruining e3 for everybody. Imagine investing thousands of dollars to advertise a new product for the first time in public and then a few days before, some assholes leak everything and show off the advertisement way ahead of time . . . And it's not done at your event, so when your customers come to see your event, they're not excited because they already saw your whole show ahead of time.
People make way too big of a fuss about Sony leaving E3. We don’t even know what Microsoft is going to conjure up and many people tend to forget Nintendo entirely. “E3 was disappointing since 2010” As a Nintendo fan, I have to disagree, even last year was a blast for fans of the big N.
Yep, with this announcement about Sony being a no show at E3 this year to those who we're hoping for the reveal of the PS5 console are now grabbing their torch and pitchforks.
I think an early part of the conversation hit the nail on the head but didn't say it directly: the reason gamers and others love E3 is all the big announcements. Big announcements aren't going anywhere. How and when they are delivered is changing, and that's probably a better thing.
I think Nintendo likes E3 because they’ve centered it in a way that benefits them. Nintendo usually has three big” directs a year: a winter one, a summer one, and then a fall one. E3 is the perfect spot for them because early June is the perfect spot for their announcement schedule. Plus a press conference is expensive so the direct during the press conference time gets the same exposure for cheaper. Then they have treehouse live which gets a lot of eyeballs and they can go the pace they want. Then their show floor is a great way for fans and the press to experience some of their new games. E3 works for Nintendo because they modeled it in a way that makes sense for them. It’s not just a waste of money because they made it in a way that is worth it for them. Sony needs to do the same thing.
TBH, i wouldn't be mad if E3 dies soon, IMO, it stopped being hype since a long time ago... prolly since like the beginning of the previous decade. Also, it's been proven that you don't need E3 to reveal your biggest weapons, and if you don't believe me, ask Nintendo or Sony for more info and watch what they have done. Final words: it's time for E3 to move aside, and let other events and/or places to take care of the business
Really big and far in advance announcements will still need a more wide-reaching stage than a company specific livestream. They thrive off being revealed at a time and place where everyone knows to be watching. The top ones at the moment are still E3 and the Game Awards.
Pretty much this plus what E3 purpose is. Not just game announcements but game demos of said announcement to entice investors to put money into their companies.
I think people are overblowing the situation, it still has a big place for developers as a whole. So I agree with your sentiment...if Microsoft as they currently are were the ones skipping people might be talking about Microsoft being out of touch.
@@Dietghostscp2107 Yeah that's my thoughts exactly. it's funny how the narrative change based on rather or not Sony does something. Fan boys are always gonna be a thing but I think when one company gets to dictate everything in favor of its self that hurts the gaming industry and gaming communities as a whole. Especially when that company is doing things that are anti-consumer.
Everyone's so excited for E3 to die, but most of my favorite gaming announcements of all time came from them, including Sony E3 press conferences. It's still my favorite time of year.
I see E3 more as the "Gamer Super Bowl" rather than "Gamer Christmas." You tend to watch the coverage even when your not completely invested in a company just too see where the industry goes. This is the time when the most eyes are on the games industry. Outlets that never cover video games often have a little mention for E3. Losing that time of focus takes gaming out of mainstream media attention (at least positive coverage.)
I say good riddance. Ever since Sony decided to go the censorship route I couldnt care less about what they do. And to be honest this kinda comes off as arrogance from Sony
@@kbreezy2025 That could be it too, but let's not forget last time Sony was a "Industry Leader" they made a bunch of dumb decisions and had to try and recover. I think history is just repeating itself.
I think Sony are just embarrassed about how poorly received their 2018 show was. “Let’s pause our show so we can move our entire audience from one venue to another”.
I don't think E3 is ever gonna truly die... but it might become a lot smaller with time, which ironically will help it be far more focused thus making it relevant again as you can just get the Info
I personally only watch E3, I live way too far away. That being said I love watching the treehouse and the direct and watching coverage from my favorite RUclips channels as they give thoughts on games. If they could have a Nintendo entertainment expo where they invite Nintendo fans/channels and news coverage people, but with the same direct and treehouse, I’d still love it. Nintendo doesn’t need to be at E3 to have a cool show worth watching. Edit: as someone who doesn’t pay attention to Sony actively, I’ve only learned stuff about Sony at the Game Awards and E3. And last year, idk if it’s because not much has happened this year but I’ve only heard that there’s a PS5 coming in 2019 🤷🏼♂️
For me, watching the shows from home, E3 is a weekend to celebrate and discuss gaming as a whole. A weekend I look forward to all through the year. I enjoy the well made trailers, the big surprises, the cringy conferences and the underlying rivalry. E3 without Playstation feels like watching a game of soccer, when half of one team is injured. I feel like Sony's market dominance in recent years has made them feel invincible - got them thinking they do not need E3. Apparently, contributing to the most fun we as the gaming community can have together, is not important enough for them to come out and play. Or maybe they just don't have anything to show us. Step up your game; I haven't decided on my next console yet!
Wtf Sony. Your last E3 showing was “let’s sit cross-legged on the floor. Come on, take your shoes and socks off. Let’s all just mellow.” That’s worse than Nintendo’s 2012 fireworks!
I think this is a net negative for Sony if anyone. E3 is the one time of year everyone talks about video games and stuff announced there just makes a bigger splash. Also it just helps the public image of the company. Singular game announcements are cool and all but E3 is the time companies can manufacture that Christmas feeling that does a lot more for their image than anything else because people are naturally unable to separate the emotions they get from that companies press conference and and their feelings about the company. I think E3 is kinda like gift wrapping. Sure you can just hand someone a gift but the anticipation, surprise, pomp, and circumstance around gifts under a tree enhance the experience of the getting it.
To many non E3 attendees, like myself, the decision means nothing. lol we watch it online anyways. Before, during, or after it's all the same. But I think one possible benefit from this decision is the decrease of early announcement. I feel each company get so competitive and is always trying to one up the other, we end up getting a bunch of announcements waaaay too early. FF7 Remake is a prime example.
I would want Nintendo and Microsoft to leave too. E3 is just not needed anymore. I would love for them to just do their own thing and we have a more spread out announcement schedule. Like Nintendo could have a conference in January, Microsoft has their conference in May/June, and PlayStation does their conference in August/September. That way each company gets the spotlight on them, and we have information and announcements spread out throughout the year instead of 2 days out of the year.
It’s pretty sad Sony is going because I think this is showing the death of E3. If E3 becomes more about new announcements, and games, with just about the fans, I think it can work for everyone. I don’t know I just don’t want E3 to die as it’s fun gathering all your friends and watching each conference.
its funny he said that they said that people are exited to watch and experience E3 and Sony will be ignoring that not participating but they're always at every other trade show, Gamescom, Paris Games Week, Tokyo Game Show, Playstation Experience, etc. They're not going anywhere, and it's not the death of the show, Sony probably just made a business decision to spend less money on something that they don't have to.
I don't think Sony is not going to E3 because "they don't need E3" but because they don't have nothing really good to show. Think about it...last 3 Sony's E3 were showing pretty much the same games year after year (Spiderman, LoU2 and GoW), so they did lack games. They sure have some games to start with PS5, but I don't think is that many and probably will be lots of ports. I still remember how bad the PS4 library was for like the first 2 years with lots of ports from PS3.
I mean the E3 conference that Always felt underwhelming to me was Sony. Enix are showing a renewed interest in E3. Xbox has been leading the charge since Phil took over. Treehouse is sweet. Capcom are reviving franchises and could have some cool things. Devolver's stream is always fun. Bethesda probably want to turn heads going into next gen to make up for fallout. I expect that ID have something other than DE in the works albeit early on. We will get a machine games game and an arkane title. ES6 trailer and a gameplay reveal for the space rpg. So should be interesting at least. Plenty happening at E3 so Sony skipping means less pressure on journalists to cover the ps5 and more time on the smaller games that may have gotten overshadowed. Win win.
It means... nothing. At least to me.
Last year was still huge for Nintendo and I can’t see E3 being forgotten anytime soon.

Background music?

@@GameXplain Thank you 😁
Sony's absence was keenly felt last year, since they usually had really good shows previously. It's disappointing to hear they'll repeat that again this year.
I don't think Nintendo will skip E3 this year. The Nintendo Treehouse Events at E3 can create just as much Hype as the actual game announcement. I don't think Nintendo would give that up.
What’s the song in the back ground it sounds familiar to me but I can’t remember it driving me insane
poop man gravity rush
Don Bohn you wouldn’t happen to be a fellow gravity rush fan would you ?
poop man I’m actually not, I’ve never played it. Just saw everyone else commenting about the song.
Don Bohn well I would definitely recommend it to you.I think it’s under rated
poop man hopefully I can check it out on PS5
Great music choice, loved Gravity Rush
I keep losing hope on ThePlayStation 5 official reveal.
Is that background music from Gravity Rush? It sounds so familiar.
Yes it is 👍
It's not just the coverage, but leakers have been ruining e3 for everybody.
“E3 was disappointing since 2010”
As a Nintendo fan, I have to disagree, even last year was a blast for fans of the big N.
That background music...it that Gravity Rush? Yessss
The only thing I would miss about E3 would be the treehouse streams. I just really like them.
Yep, with this announcement about Sony being a no show at E3 this year to those who we're hoping for the reveal of the PS5 console are now grabbing their torch and pitchforks.
since i don’t have budget to have 2 consoles at same time, i don’t care about sony for now. i watch e3 for nintendo.
Sony doesn’t need E3
E3 needs Sony
It’s kinda dying.. these companies can just do press releases and still reach the masses
Off topic but God that thumbnail lmao. I cannot believe Sony thinks that constipated ass pic is badass and intimidating and should be TLOU2's boxart.
Sony doesn’t need e3, same as Nintendo. They can do things their own way, more direct. No competing about who won.
Can you guys maybe change the background music a little more? That song got grating after 15 minutes.
Something I didn’t hear discussed is how important E3 is to developers to network and collaborate.
This just pushes Nintendo and Microsoft closer together.
I think an early part of the conversation hit the nail on the head but didn't say it directly: the reason gamers and others love E3 is all the big announcements. Big announcements aren't going anywhere. How and when they are delivered is changing, and that's probably a better thing.
Just want to say I appreciate the GR music in these discussions lately.
Eh, we’re not missing much with Sony not being at E3
TBH, i wouldn't be mad if E3 dies soon, IMO, it stopped being hype since a long time ago... prolly since like the beginning of the previous decade. Also, it's been proven that you don't need E3 to reveal your biggest weapons, and if you don't believe me, ask Nintendo or Sony for more info and watch what they have done.
Final words: it's time for E3 to move aside, and let other events and/or places to take care of the business
Sorry not seen a thing for Sony. it's not advertised to me so I guess I won't watch it.
Last year's E3 was the greatest and biggest ever for me.
Sony being there or not means nothing.
You must not have watch the old ones
Really big and far in advance announcements will still need a more wide-reaching stage than a company specific livestream. They thrive off being revealed at a time and place where everyone knows to be watching. The top ones at the moment are still E3 and the Game Awards.
Pretty much this plus what E3 purpose is. Not just game announcements but game demos of said announcement to entice investors to put money into their companies.
no more e3? i’ve always wanted to attend it in person. now i won’t be able to go ever? 😢
I wonder if we would be talking about E3 being dead if both Nintendo and Microsoft didn't show up and only it was Sony that showed🤔
Nobody WANTS it to doe, but its undeniable that it is.
Love the Gravity Rush music
E3 is on the decline like I said I believe E3 will be done in 5 years time.
Well that’s disappointing. I’m gonna miss getting wasted doing drinking bingo e3 cards.
I’m surprised you can get away from Sarge long enough to try.
Gold Wade pfft easy, I just tell him the blues are planning something and he’s out of my hair for the rest of the day.
I have only one thing to say about this:
idc lol
I say good riddance. Ever since Sony decided to go the censorship route I couldnt care less about what they do. And to be honest this kinda comes off as arrogance from Sony
No it’s not.... it’s to save money. Half their announcements will be spoiled anyways so why waste the money?
@@kbreezy2025 That could be it too, but let's not forget last time Sony was a "Industry Leader" they made a bunch of dumb decisions and had to try and recover. I think history is just repeating itself.
It just means more room for Indi titles and PC gaming.
I think Sony are just embarrassed about how poorly received their 2018 show was. “Let’s pause our show so we can move our entire audience from one venue to another”.
Shout out to Gravity rush music
What does this mean for Nintendo? Nothing. Because they will end up winning e3 again like they have the last few years.
It'll eventually become N(Nintendo)E3, full of only Nintendo products, the big direct of 1 hour and a half, and a week long Treehouse.
Arceus Bowser 212 I hope you’re joking because E3 will completely shut down if it comes to that point
What is this amazing background music
ruclips.net/video/hKJEguKzt1I/видео.html
To many non E3 attendees, like myself, the decision means nothing. lol we watch it online anyways. Before, during, or after it's all the same. But I think one possible benefit from this decision is the decrease of early announcement. I feel each company get so competitive and is always trying to one up the other, we end up getting a bunch of announcements waaaay too early. FF7 Remake is a prime example.
The same as last year?
I would want Nintendo and Microsoft to leave too. E3 is just not needed anymore. I would love for them to just do their own thing and we have a more spread out announcement schedule. Like Nintendo could have a conference in January, Microsoft has their conference in May/June, and PlayStation does their conference in August/September. That way each company gets the spotlight on them, and we have information and announcements spread out throughout the year instead of 2 days out of the year.
I love when GameXplain talk about Sony because they always play Gravity Rush music!
that was maybe the longest outro i've heard from you guys..
It’s pretty sad Sony is going because I think this is showing the death of E3. If E3 becomes more about new announcements, and games, with just about the fans, I think it can work for everyone. I don’t know I just don’t want E3 to die as it’s fun gathering all your friends and watching each conference.
Props to the Gravity Rush music. One of my absolute faves.
its funny he said that they said that people are exited to watch and experience E3 and Sony will be ignoring that not participating but they're always at every other trade show, Gamescom, Paris Games Week, Tokyo Game Show, Playstation Experience, etc.
Shout outs to the Gravity Rush/Daze song used in the video. Great game and soundtrack.
Gravity Rush ost in the background :)
E3 is not about just presenting games
Its about bringing the comunities all under the same sky ❤
I much rather have news spread out throughout the year to get excited for rather than getting it all at once at E3.
Why are customers for games called consumers anyway? Consume kinda implies the product is unusable once you have finished consuming it
I get more excited for the first Direct of the year than the E3 direct nowadays.
I mean the E3 conference that
Always felt underwhelming to me was Sony. Win win.
