I am Soo glad I saw this , just saying. AT&t wants me to switch over from Verizon and swap my sim card. Said I could save a lot of money. Now I'm scared to do it.
if you have online accounts, you're in danger of SIM swapping theft. Phone apps have nothing to do with it. Some financial companies are forcing us to enable 2FA that uses our phone number.
whether or not you have the banking app on your phone makes absolutely no difference, banks still use codes in text messages for verification, even though it isn't secure enough, this scam has nothing to do at all with any apps
esim is becoming more common. iPhones have this capability to add a second line. The scam is to “clone” your phone, so when you request a PIN or password reset your account is “verified” to your “phone”. Can a phone company online customer support activate another SIM card for someone pretending to be you? Yes. Can you have someone paid off at the retail store do the same? Yes. It can happen to anyone.

In my country you can only swap or replace your sim by visiting mobile carrier center and it done via a kiosk. You enter your mobile number, place in your ID and thumbprint, if it match then you can proceed
You should avoid using Text Message codes for your 2FA for this exact reason, using the QR codes that generate a code in an app on your device is how you want to do it. Authly, Google Authenticator, etc... This is really the only way to protect your accounts in the event you get a sim swap attack.

Yes, but giving away all authority to one singular system is the same as being taken over by dictatorship. Thats why Laws and regulations allows you to work with financial industry with personal discretion. Ethical procedures and transparency is what we all seek in transactions. Systematic abuse/frauds has to be reported so we can cancel out and track certain processes to be held accountable publicly through judiciary without dismissal.
I had a similar issue, being someone who knows a bit about technology I never use my phone to check my bank, 401K, or anything with sensitive data. Always use Ubuntu that I run out of a floppy disk and always, always use wired internet since wireless is still very easy to hack.

What are phone carriers doing!! Well they are eventually moving over to embedded esim’s will it stop fraud 100% no but it will slow it down, you can’t stop it because you’d have to have the mobile workers ID customers 100% of the time when doing sim swaps or device swaps.
This scam has ONLY happened to T-mobile and MetroPCS customers so far. MetroPCS is a T-mobile company. This has to be a security issue at T-mobile and if you have T-mobile, RUN to another carrier!.
THAT'S WHY I'M NOT USING A *"APPLE PHONES"* THAT'S WHY I'M NOT USING T-MOBILE THAT'S WHY I'M NOT USING PHONE PAY THAT'S WHY I'M NOT USING APP CONNECT WITH MONEY EVEN I'M NOT DEPOSITING MONEY FROM APP.
I can't believe people put so much trust into their electronic device. We've been going at it now since the early to mid nineties and every day a new scam comes about.
Y'all might not like what I'm about to say phone company and the government should not allow telemarketers phone scammers to get out of hand I remember back then you barely had those type of people we need to make a new task force to tackle this type of issue these scammers have to go and be prosecuted
I order my phone online and do the sim stuff myself. Now, I am using a phone without a sim card. The thing is make sure everything is official. Do not deal with people if they call YOU. DO not click links and DO not reply to emails unless you know you know the process. I call YOU, do not call me attitude.
banking apps have nothing to do with this fraud, it involves transferring the phone number to a new SIM, so that the criminals can receive those texts with a code to log in to important accounts like online banking and the like. in fact, banking apps can help stop this kind of fraud by providing an alternative way to prove you have the device involving the app like approving a notification or using the app to get a code, this scam doesn't involve installing any malware on the phone or anything
OMG I got these messages, assumed it was a scam, and deleted without reading the whole message. The etrail should be traced and GIVE THIS MAN HIS MONEY BACK. Thugs. No good thugs.
This is a targeted scam not t-mobile fault. Someone who knew what he had did this to him. There is no way someone fished all that info from a guess. He told somebody everything! Bank cryto hole in the ground stash.
Well T mobile ultimately allowed the SIM to be transferred over to a new phone, so both them and accounts that got hacked out of relying on an insecure authentication method

those codes in text messages are 2 factor verification, but not a very secure method, this scam is to circumvent 2 factor authentication, so you should use a more secure method wherever possible, such as approving a notification or generating a code from an authentication app
I bet you those people are currently in instagram and fb showing off all the junk/useless stuff bought with his money acting like they worked hard for it.
Yep know exactly about this there are tons of people in the gaming community that I know of that make hundreds of thousands off this they pay hire people to call called (callers) and they read off social engineering scrips then the next step is if they manage to trick the provider normally metro or tmobile they then have another person called a (holder) put the sim card into the phone where they then begin to take the assets. Both the caller and the holder make a small percentage of the money but the main person who always finds the targets or buys "targs" is what they call them makes tons of money and they flex it on the internet...
this has nothing to with outsourcing to other countries, it's a problem with mobile networks not having sufficient security and important accounts, like online banking relying on codes in text messages for authentication despite it not being secure
How about you just don't download any Bank apps on your smartphone because all the phones are made in a foreign country anyways and Google can't stay out of your business.... And they're probably an overseas company also
downloading a banking app does not increase your vulnerability to this scam whatsoever, it's to get hold of those codes texted to you to log into accounts like online banking - in fact, using a banking app can make you less vulnerable to this scam as you can in some cases verify yourself using the app instead of getting a code texted to you, the phone itself is not in any way hacked or compromised by this scam
They got to look real close at T-Mobile something is fishing about T-Mobile that's internal check the employees and T-Mobile I guarantee you there from overseas
This is exactly why I keep pictures of my hairy ass in case the hacker gets a hold of my phone he will have to suffer and look at my hairy ass no cash in my bank!
Any clown can buy a T-Mobile (or other provider) stingray and get between you and a legitimate cell phone tower to intercept your cellphone info, unfortunately.
banking on your phone doesn't make you vulnerable to this scam, it's done to get those codes texted to you to log into accounts like online banking the phone itself and its software is not compromised and using a banking app can in some cases make this scam more difficult, as you can use the app to verify yourself instead of getting a code texted to you. the only way to be 100% safe from this scam is move to a desert island and use no online services at all, is that really a worthwhile trade off?
@@Newbalance0341 You know, the guy in this story who is the "victim" is probably a scammer too. Sim swaps always target douchebags in pump and dump scams because they know they have nice stacks of crypto and are less likely to report it.
there are not really any reasonable steps you can take to avoid this scam, besides not publishing your phone number on a public social media profile the only way to be completely safe is to move to a desert island and not use any online services at all. is that really a reasonable thing to do
Ultimately...perhaps the only logical way to ensure digital security for everyone on Earth is to eliminate national currencies and instead have a global, centralized bank with a single, digital currency for all nations. Then additionally, assign a unique numerical identification for everyone so that all transactions are centrally controlled and always uniquely identified by the person's numerical identification being attached to every transaction. However, the only way to make this secure is to have the identification be a physical part of each person, thus guaranteeing that it is the actual person making the transaction. This could be accomplished by inserting microchips into people's hands, replacing cash and credit cards as the method for financial transactions. This has been happening in Sweden for years now as people are having chips implanted into their hands and using that for all financial transactions. If this became global and required by legal agreement between all nations, this could create a much more secure form of finance. However...the creepy part is that this very much lines up with the prophecy in the Biblical book of Revelation, chapter 13, verses 16-18... _"Also it causes all, both small and great, both rich and poor, both free and slave, to be marked on the right hand or the forehead, so that no one can buy or sell unless he has the mark, that is, the name of the beast or the number of its name. This calls for wisdom: let the one who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man, and his number is 666."_ *- Revelation 13:16-18* Food for thought...
I was reading your comment and thinking how much it reminded me of what someone else had explained the exact same thing from the Bible. And then I read further down and found the rest of what I was thinking about. The whole thing sounds batshit crazy but that's the direction we're heading and it's already a crazy enough world. And history does repeat itself.
Since Tmobile did this to him, they should be sued for money stolen and attorney fees.

Cloaked wireless is the only solution to SIM swap attacks that I trust
Wouldnt the simple answer be to not have a stupid banking app on your phone?
I don’t use banks. Not private. Not safe.
I think it's a marketing opportunity. Develope a revenge app that follows an inquiry back and destroys his system.

I hope that man gets all his money back
I'm so glad I don't have a cell phone. You can exist without one.
@@JoseRamirez-wv3pl That'll be great when their car breaks down in the middle of nowhere at dark thirty.
This scam has ONLY happened to T-mobile and MetroPCS customers so far. MetroPCS is a T-mobile company. This has to be a security issue at T-mobile and if you have T-mobile, RUN to another carrier!.
actually it's been happening to all networks. it's just called hijacking but its been happening for a while now
ATT customers have been dealing with it for years.
wrong
@@southjerseysound7340 how are they hijacking though? Noone explained how they do it
@@floridagirl9064 it can be hijacked through multiple ways. They can make clones of your sim card through the air.

THAT'S WHY I'M NOT USING T-MOBILE
THAT'S WHY I'M NOT USING PHONE PAY
THAT'S WHY I'M NOT USING APP CONNECT WITH MONEY EVEN I'M NOT DEPOSITING MONEY FROM APP.
This has nothing to do with Apple phones it can happen on any phone don’t put your life on your phone
I will never put any kind of banking information into my telephone or computer
I can't believe people put so much trust into their electronic device. We've been going at it now since the early to mid nineties and every day a new scam comes about.
Y'all might not like what I'm about to say phone company and the government should not allow telemarketers phone scammers to get out of hand I remember back then you barely had those type of people we need to make a new task force to tackle this type of issue these scammers have to go and be prosecuted
Did anyone else catch the little chuckle the news reporter in the black suit gave when she asked about the DNA
What problem was solved?
I order my phone online and do the sim stuff myself. Now, I am using a phone without a sim card. The thing is make sure everything is official. Do not deal with people if they call YOU. DO not click links and DO not reply to emails unless you know you know the process. I call YOU, do not call me attitude.
....and the Banks want us to add a banking app to your phone.
banking apps have nothing to do with this fraud, it involves transferring the phone number to a new SIM, so that the criminals can receive those texts with a code to log in to important accounts like online banking and the like. in fact, banking apps can help stop this kind of fraud by providing an alternative way to prove you have the device involving the app like approving a notification or using the app to get a code, this scam doesn't involve installing any malware on the phone or anything
Yea bragging about you're money😆😆🤷♂️ yea yes... that coin base bullshit I think we all know what happened
The way it works do ever use the inter for personal information.. Banking..
Its just common sense. Your information is every were.nothing is safe.
OMG I got these messages, assumed it was a scam, and deleted without reading the whole message. The etrail should be traced and GIVE THIS MAN HIS MONEY BACK. Thugs. No good thugs.
You don't get it. Victims play no part in SIM swap theft. No text, no email sent to the victims.
Boost Mobile Services made me do this to my phone my phone has not work right every since then I had to buy a new phone and it's b*******
Time to take out your funds in cash. Hide it.
Why don't the carrier call you before doing the swap , their employees could be in cahoots with the hackers
It seems like the fuckery lies mostly on the carrier's end.
This is a targeted scam not t-mobile fault. Someone who knew what he had did this to him. There is no way someone fished all that info from a guess. He told somebody everything! Bank cryto hole in the ground stash.
Exactly like what could tmo do? They probably even locked the Sim and the perp got it unlocked
Well T mobile ultimately allowed the SIM to be transferred over to a new phone, so both them and accounts that got hacked out of relying on an insecure authentication method
T mobile is a bad company and they should be shut down I had to get 3 different phones couse each one was " defective " I'm going back to Verizon
I guess that's why we preach what we preach!
"19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." Matthew 6:19-21
Also,
"4 Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom.
5 Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven." Proverbs 23:4-5
And finally,
"Hear this, all ye people; give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world:
2 Both low and high, rich and poor, together.
3 My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding.
4 I will incline mine ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon the harp.
5 Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil, when the iniquity of my heels shall compass me about?
6 They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;
7 None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him:
8 (For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceaseth for ever:)
9 That he should still live for ever, and not see corruption.
10 For he seeth that wise men die, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others.
11 Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever, and their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names.
12 Nevertheless man being in honour abideth not: he is like the beasts that perish.
13 This their way is their folly: yet their posterity approve their sayings. Selah.
14 Like sheep they are laid in the grave; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their beauty shall consume in the grave from their dwelling.
15 But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me. Selah.
16 Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased;
17 For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away: his glory shall not descend after him.
18 Though while he lived he blessed his soul: and men will praise thee, when thou doest well to thyself.
19 He shall go to the generation of his fathers; they shall never see light.
20 Man that is in honour, and understandeth not, is like the beasts that perish." Psalm 49
I pray the Lord uses what the devil meant for evil for something good for him and for others. 🙏
Put all your banking and your car and home lock through an app ! Nobody can steel it ! Oh yeah crypto currency at its finest !
Why do people steal other people’s phone numbers?! What’s the purpose for doing that in the first place?! That makes no sense to me!
I thought it would be in Australia based on the thumbnail.
They are doing it to me...
This is the fault of the phone company!!!
Ha ha
I deal with cash. No checking no credit.. good luck scamming me. Lol
how do you get paid and pay bills like utilities?
I got PayPal prepaid Mastercard to pay bills
these ppl think they're so smart surfing the net & answering to and txt numbers you dont know you're prone to scamers atack 😂
Use two system verification .
those codes in text messages are 2 factor verification, but not a very secure method, this scam is to circumvent 2 factor authentication, so you should use a more secure method wherever possible, such as approving a notification or generating a code from an authentication app
Yep and another reason why I don’t do no kind of banking online I Dont even buy anything online and crypto is a waste of my time
I bet you those people are currently in instagram and fb showing off all the junk/useless stuff bought with his money acting like they worked hard for it.
verification with an ID for ownership of that number should be a law
METEO PCS !!!
METEO PCS !!!
I recommend putting 2fa up on everything to protect your selves
This is what happens when companies outsource their businesses to foreign countries.
this has nothing to with outsourcing to other countries, it's a problem with mobile networks not having sufficient security and important accounts, like online banking relying on codes in text messages for authentication despite it not being secure
What a phone provider company should do is use a fingerprint system. That's the only way to verify a true customer.
Sue them, they will change. Only after it hits their wallet will they change it.
FBI is doing it....
Duh they have done it to me over anf over i am so tired
How would someone know what he had and know his phone number? He had to have given his phone number out.
you can't go your whole life never giving your phone number or anyone
@@grassytramtracks Yeah, but just anyone wouldn't do this. You would likely know the ppl who are capable that u gave ur number to.

T mobile has so many breaches into our accounts!
he was into crypto but didn't know what a sim card was? that's odd

They got to look real close at T-Mobile something is fishing about T-Mobile that's internal check the employees and T-Mobile I guarantee you there from overseas
I wanna throw up. I feel so bad for this man. Cell phone providers are responsible.
This is exactly why I keep pictures of my hairy ass in case the hacker gets a hold of my phone he will have to suffer and look at my hairy ass no cash in my bank!

Any clown can buy a T-Mobile (or other provider) stingray and get between you and a legitimate cell phone tower to intercept your cellphone info, unfortunately.
ah snap that happened to me yesterday dam Im gonna check my bank s---!
Sure it did
I don't do banking on my phone. Any one that does, is asking for this.
banking on your phone doesn't make you vulnerable to this scam, it's done to get those codes texted to you to log into accounts like online banking
the phone itself and its software is not compromised and using a banking app can in some cases make this scam more difficult, as you can use the app to verify yourself instead of getting a code texted to you. the only way to be 100% safe from this scam is move to a desert island and use no online services at all, is that really a worthwhile trade off?
@@grassytramtracks I'll stick with my non-google compromised computer.
All they need to do is two and three step verifications period
the text messages with a code are a form of 2 step verification, just not a very good one
Sounds like you can do this yourself and claim it was someone else
Dang; Shannon has some width to her hips.
And......he'll Never get his money back. The government doesn't care, the corporations don't care. It's not their money! They don't care.

@@Newbalance0341 His argument has the same energy as the scalpers who try to justify their actions too
@@Newbalance0341 You know, the guy in this story who is the "victim" is probably a scammer too.
This calls for wisdom: let the one who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man, and his number is 666."_
*- Revelation 13:16-18*
Food for thought...
