I have absolutely no idea how I stumbled onto your channel, Kevin, but what a true gem. When I saw the title I thought that you must be visiting Manchester here in England. 😂 What a fun surprise to see that you are on the other side of the big pond. I worked over in MA for 15 years and would visit Vermont often. What a state to get away from the busyness of Boston. Anyway, thank you for the lovely reminder of my time over there and also for the fact that I have not enjoyed a beautiful tomato such as those since. Europe does not produce those gorgeous, juicy, beefy tomatoes. 🍅🙁 I just subscribed and look forward to binge watching a bit soon. I do hope that Mr Fox makes an appearance from time to time. Made the tomato pie and took it to our book club meeting, and it was very well-liked! This has been my favorite dish at a local restaurant, and never knew it could be made so easily! Also- Kevin, you inspired us to make plans to travel all the way from Tennessee to Manchester, Vermont- and stay at the Equinox. Made our reservations already! Now breakfast at the Up for Breakfast! You have become our TripAdvisor too!
Getting inspired by this video (was here for the recipe actually) we booked our stay at the Equinox Hotel and planned a trip to Manchester, Vermont! The season was perfect as the summer rush had not yet started, the designer outlets were empty (no crowds), and the weather was perfect. We took cue from Kevin's video and immediately started walking on the marble sidewalks after checking in. A trip to Burlington on country roads and the mandatory visit to Ben and Jerry's followed. Another trip is warranted just to take in the lovely greenery and the quiet elegance of the town.

That pie is incredible! I’ve been making it for years and passed it on to many folks. I often use a butter pie crust in a casserole dish with multiple layers of tomatoes and fresh corn sprinkled in. This is summer!

We went to Kentucky this summer as a family member used their lake place for a family reunion. I recently married (after widowhood for 2 decades) and was happy to meet my new relatives from Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas, and of course, Kentucky. We are from Florida! OMG. My first husband and I spent our honeymoon up in Vermont and Maine 40 years ago. The Equinox was FANTASTIC. The food wonderful. Manchester was really fun. We are not married anymore but we keep in touch (he and his g/f will be spending Thanksgiving with my husband, me and our children) I cannot wait to tell him about this video! What a great idea for a tomato pie! Will have to give it a go. I went to New Hampshire and Portland Maine. Been to NH many times and have lived there also. Portland was fabulous as a tourist. Needless to say I ate well in both places and the weather had just broken from the heat and humidity. Family and friends in gorgeous settings. Now.....back to that recipe....YUM! can't wait to try it!

I enjoyed traveling to Manchester with you, one of my favorite small towns in New England. It brought back so many wonderful memories. I must try your tomato pie recipe. I love to travel the way you do. I especially enjoy old inns that were once private mansions. I love wandering the small-town street and visiting unique shops. A special dinner out is always an added attraction. Manchester and the Inn you stayed in look so inviting! The tomato pie is going in my recipe collection as summer approaches. I make tomato pie every summer. I use a regular pie crust. Pillsbury now has cornmeal biscuits in the freezer section which are amazing. I may try them this year. I would let them thaw and then roll them out and press in the pie plate

Kevin, don't forget to put sunscreen on the backs of your hands. Amazing the amount of UV rays your hands can get coming through the car window. I keep forgetting - my left hand is so much more freckled from sun on hand on wheel....the freckles are running together. Also if you love New England I hope you can watch the PBS half-hour show "Weekends with Yankee" as that show covers several wonderful locations each week (including usually one with a local chef sharing a recipe or two). I bet you and Mr. Fox would enjoy visiting some of the 580 exclusive boutique hotels and restaurants in the world who are members of Relais & Chateau. One of the things they all share is exquisite gourmet food prepared by award winning chefs. The experience of staying and eating at them for me has been a "once in a lifetime" memory having stayed in and eaten at some of them in France and England and have dined in a few in the United States.
🍁 I thought this was going to be a hassle to make with doing pie crust from scratch and all kinds of spices i do not have, but it was not. I will definitely try this.
Manchester looks amazing! I bet it was so relaxing there. I haven't traveled at all this summer, but I live in an area of NY where I'm close to Lake Ontario and beaches, state parks, the Finger Lakes... so this summer was still packed with outdoor adventures!
There are so many amazing places in the Finger Lakes! Nature (waterfalls galore!), quaint little towns, breweries, cideries, and wineries, lavender farms and other niche little farms, and the actual lakes that are just amazing and all different. The vibe at Conesus Lake is different from Keuka Lake and so on. If you ever plan a trip and need help or suggestions, I'd be happy to assist!
I love old New England INNS..gorgious old architecture...love history. Kevin thanks for taking us on a virtual tour of Manchester. Love also the specialty shops Those canned biscuits remind me of the Cheeseburger Pie and BBQ Hamburger Cups that I've made for my children each Christmas Eve party

I enjoyed traveling to Manchester with you, one of my favorite small towns in New England. It brought back so many wonderful memories. I must try your tomato pie recipe. It looks delicious, but I think I’ll just make a batch of biscuit dough and line the pan with it because I never have those tubes of premade biscuits, tell Mr. Fox, I think I might’ve spied him just for a second in the swimming pool 😉😂

I love to travel the way you do. I especially enjoy old inns that were once private mansions. I love wandering the small-town street and visiting unique shops. A special dinner out is always an added attraction. Manchester and the Inn you stayed in look so inviting! The tomato pie is going in my recipe collection as summer approaches. Hoping I can find some nice fresh tomatoes from someone's garden.

I make tomato pie every summer. I use a regular pie crust.
Pillsbury now has cornmeal biscuits in the freezer section which are amazing. I may try them this year. I would let them thaw and then roll them out and press in the pie plate

Kevin, don't forget to put sunscreen on the backs of your hands. Amazing the amount of UV rays your hands can get coming through the car window. I keep forgetting - my left hand is so much more freckled from sun on hand on wheel....the freckles are running together. Also if you love New England I hope you can watch the PBS half-hour show "Weekends with Yankee" as that show covers several wonderful locations each week (including usually one with a local chef sharing a recipe or two). Cheers! Loved this video, can't wait for the next one.

I bet you and Mr. Fox would enjoy visiting some of the 580 exclusive boutique hotels and restaurants in the world who are members of Relais & Chateau. One of the things they all share is exquisite gourmet food prepared by award winning chefs. The experience of staying and eating at them for me has been a "once in a lifetime" memory having stayed in and eaten at some of them in France and England and have dined in a few in the United States.
🍁 I thought this was going to be a hassle to make with doing pie crust from scratch and all kinds of spices i do not have, but it was not. I will definitely try this.
Manchester looks amazing! I bet it was so relaxing there. I haven't traveled at all this summer, but I live in an area of NY where I'm close to Lake Ontario and beaches, state parks, the Finger Lakes... so this summer was still packed with outdoor adventures!
So glad you mentioned the Finger Lakes region -- I want to travel there!
There are so many amazing places in the Finger Lakes! Nature (waterfalls galore!), quaint little towns, breweries, cideries, and wineries, lavender farms and other niche little farms, and the actual lakes that are just amazing and all different. The vibe at Conesus Lake is different from Keuka Lake and so on. If you ever plan a trip and need help or suggestions, I'd be happy to assist!
