3 cups all purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp yeast
1 tsp salt
1/4 cup sugar
3 tbsp shortening or butter
1 cup water
1 pack pollock salted fish
1/2 of an onion Chopped
1 tomato Chopped
Chopped bell peppers as much as you like
Chopped scallions
4 cloves garlic Chopped
1/2 of a lemon
1 tsp complete seasoning
1 tsp all purpose seasoning
1/2 tsp black pepper

Hi Candy! I tried it. Saltfish came out perfect. I bought boneless. I accidentally started pulling some apart before boiling them but that did not affect the process. HOWEVER, the bakes did not come out fluffy and soft and I think I know EXACTLY why. The dough DID NOT RISE. I believe this is because my flour was cold and so was the butter (I put them both in the fridge the night before to save prep time the next morning), also the sugar was brown sugar and the pieces were like big crystals (compared to the usual fine white sugar). So, the problem was THE DOUGH DID NOT RISE. And I believe the reason is because the flour and butter were cold ...because when kneading is when I started to realize that it doesn't look the same as Candy's dough ...and plus the sugar crystals were just stuck in the dough... not mixed in well. I still kept going though. When I left the dough to rise and it didn't rise AT ALL, that's when I realized it's not gonna come out right. Still kept going though. Didn't even have a lot of oil but made it work. when frying the first one, lorrrrd it looked like a mess, the bake was not browning and then it all of a sudden started burning on the outside. Also it did not rise, it stayed the same size as I put it in. Did not puff out at all ...except just a slight little bit from the oil. Still kept going. In the end it came out alright. The flavour was still AHmazing, it's just that it was more of a FLAT, WELL DONE (aka bun up) BAKE than the lovely FULLY RISEN ones you made haha. Thank you so much for the recipe. Will try again and do it better next time. Still super happy with how it came out. 😊🙏
Awww I'm sorry I recommend using all warm ingredients next time, the only time I use cold ingredients is when I'm making a pastry dough. Otherwise warm ingredients are best.
