I remember a game Palmer pitched against Detroit in 83'. He was throwing junk and struck out Kirk Gibson a couple of times. Gibson was so frustrated he was throwing his helmet and bat walking back to the bench. In the same game Chet Lemon was hitting the cover off the ball. I remember guys like Lemon and Willie Randolph really hitting Palmer hard. The stat that really stands out about Palmer was 10 shut outs in one season.
Always thought he had the smoothest, graceful delivery. My second favorite delivery. Marichal was my favorite delivery. You can probably guess I am in my 70s
My favorite Jim Palmer stat...in his 19-year major league career he never allowed a batter to hit a grand slam. Sounds simple, but it blows my mind that in that clutch situation where even the best pitchers could miss one, he didn't. Unreal.
8:20 on "Laugh-In" tonight the guest stars were: Tony Curtis, Frank Gorshin, Edward G. Robinson, and Buffalo Bob Smith. In case anyone was wondering. Admit it. I know you were.
Pitchers rarely win 20 anymore. Palmer won 20 EIGHT times!! C'mon.....I guess Earl Weaver wasn't obsessing about a pitch count. Sure miss "The good ole days."
Jim Palmer was slightly better because he had a better carreer winning percentage and earned run average than Tom Seaver and he had to face a DH every ninth hitter from 1973 to 1984 where as Tom Seaver had an overmatched pitcher batting every ninth time in through the lineups...The Designated hitters that Jim Palmer faced during that time were usualy the #3,4 or 5 hitters in their respective lineups (Orlando Cepeda,Frank Howard,Rico Carty,Frank Robinson,Lou Piniella,Jim Rice,Tommy Davis,Willie Horton,Andre Thornton,Reggie Jackson,Larry Hisle,Paul Molitor,Rusty Staub,Al Oliver etc) who were often the best clutch hitters on their team and yet Jim Palmers stats during these prime years were still slightly better than Tom Seavers were!
and somehow managed to win 20+ games eight times, 3 CY Youngs, 2 World Series rings, the ONLY pitcher to win WS games in THREE different decades, pitching 20-30 complete games a year, a career ERA under 3.00, and 5-10 shutouts a year. Name a current pitcher who has more than 10 shutouts in his career. Palmer had over 50 shutouts
wow this is cool to see Ripken and Murray on the corners
My Favorite Pitcher of All Time!! 🧡🖤⚾️ Thx for this!!!
Palmer is a bad ass. Most knowledgeable mind about baseball history

As a kid, i used to imitate his windup… NOW, as an adult, i STILL do…
Jim Palmer had such a classic windup and delivery; so smooth.
just a beautiful and awesomely accomplished pitcher..
Palmer was a beast. Love that old time wind up.

gotta love the sliding action on palmers forkball its a thing of beauty
un lanzador fuera de serie
I wish these clips showed more of his windup and delivery. The clips start mid-way though the delivery.
yes the 1-hitter vs the twins in `982 was masterful

He was deceptively deadly. A slow, looping delivery while hiding the ball behind a big leg kick. Reminds me of Mariano Rivera.

Jim palmers curve is like Bartolo colons 2Seamer 😅 you know how it moves, you see it, but still strikeout or hit it wrong 🤣👍💯
Grande Palmer lo vi jugar.
Who was the better pitcher Jim Palmer or Tom Seaver? At their best.
Seaver
Palmer
They are equal
Don Stanhouse was better than both of them according to Don Stanhouse!

If you ever wondered how good he was, just ask him.😅😅😅
JP can talk a could game to, JP has forgot more about baseball than most folks know ! 🤔
Orioles Treasure
Holy leg kick! A waste of time, allowing base runners to steal, and batters to time you better.
and yet despite your analysis he's in the Baseball HOF
Probly an embittered doggers fan
