  • This was my opportunity to right a great wrong. I picked up these rocks on my first trip to the Kokernot 06 Ranch last year thinking they were agates. I was fooled because they turned out to be mostly rhyolite. Can I redeem myself by tumbling these into beautiful gemstones?

Really interesting blend o’ minerals…Rhyolite, chalcedony, hematite combined with some mossyness. Can’t blame you for thinking they were agates because many of them were agatey. I like the results.

Thanks Peter! I kinda dig the rocks now as well. I might grab some more when I go back in the fall.

The polished results are quite pleasing! The Ryolite took a great polish, and the Hematite was a nice surprise!

That looks like hematite we have a lot of that mixed with Jasper. I like the way it shines back at you. Usually you can check it with a high powered magnet.

Definitely could be in there. I do see lots of hematite out there in West Texas.

Any big slabs of that material? Would look cool!

As a matter of fact if you check my playlists, under the slabbing group you will see I’ve slabbed a couple of the larger ones with mixed results.

Your rocks will show better on a dark background. I made this suggestion to another youtuber, he followed it, and VOILA those rocks popped. Just sayin😇
