I bought the same size greenhouse done from zipetiedomes but haven't assembled it yet. I have painted the PVC pipes with latex paint as the PVC coming in direct contact with the clear plastic will degrade the clear plastic
Hi great job on your dome I made one out of pvc as a project the only problem I have is the cover I put all kinds of tarps on it the frame is good but I can't get the cover right looks like junk and I don't know how to fix it any ideas would be greatly appreciated thanks for sharing
One thing that I read, is you might want to paint the struts and with outdoor safe paint weather paint. Because the PVC can get weekend by the sun. But if you have a protective paint over it, it's supposed to protect it and make it last longer
Thats a good size dome. You`ll find the frame is the easiest part of the job ;) The best place for a door is usually in the base hexagon between the pentagons with the uprights going from the pent side hubs to the hex base hubs. A diamond shaped door is easier but on the flipside you cant get a barrow through it easily.
That is so true. I'm sure that The door will be quite the challenge! Also, it'll be interesting to put the plastic on the greenhouse since its so high. I bought 6 mil plastic that is 110 feet in length and 20 feet wide. I might rent staging or build a heavy duty Trellis that can support me "HOPEFULLY" to get me to the top. Heading to Home Depot to look at the longest 4 by 4's. I appreciate your comments so much!!!!
@@stevejacobson8958 The door isnt too bad in a hex as the top and bottom struts are parallel. Getting the cover on the frame will be interesting but where there`s a will, there`s a way :) I managed to do mine with a step ladder but my dome is only a shade over 10ft high. The cover is made up of 21 individual poly panels so i only had to deal with one panel at a time.
@@JohnGuest45 Thats a good point about the top and bottom struts being parallel. What type of struts are you using? PVC or metal or wood.... :-) I wish I could see your greenhouse!!
It is built and it turned out quite well. Unfortunately there was a bad winter wind and snowstorm and some of my plastic began to rip. The lesson learned was that its best not to cut 5 feet off in a circle around the base and then tape it up towards winter. The wind an rain will help separate the tape and the all havoc runs looooose!!!! I'll be putting the plastic back on in march or april!
@@stevejacobson8958 thanks for the update! I was a bit worried, you re a likeable guy, and so many people have it bad these days. happy to see you re ok!
UGG, I wish we could go down and see that. I have been wanting a geodesic greenhouse for like eight years. We started building one, and then I got really sick. And while I've been in treatment and things haven't been so great. But I'm hoping to get one. Do you need a builders permit to have that on your property. I'm guessing not, because it's not a permanent fixture. Am I right or am I wrong
That would be interesting to build from the top down Though the structure would get heavier as it was built up! The size greenhouse that I built would weigh a few hundred pounds.

It’s gonna be awesome!
Thanks Andrew! I'll be putting out another video showing scenes of the Geodesic Dome

Its made of timber and steel with tubular aluminium hubs. I had to design the dome to fit the glazing, which made it interesting.
Do you have a video of you putting up a door? I'd love to see :-)
What about the hot summers? Will the pvc pipe hold up?
The PVC Struts like like they will take awhile before they become brittle or decompose. Even my small greenhouse shows no signed of integrity loss.
sooo, is it built?
it really looks like a thing you d put on mars.
reminds me of Zardoz, a movie with Sean Connery.
good show!

Not sure where you are but would love to have a visit! It isn't a permanent structure so I'm sure you wouldnt need a permit!
When I decide to make mine I'm gonna build from the top down. No way am I climbing on a 14 foot ladder
