Ladakh is the home to numerous natural wonders, but the most precious gift bestowed upon this magical land is the Chadar Trek. The trek is all about persistence & survival - of learning to survive in the harsh terrains at sub-zero temperatures, interacting with the locals & understanding their way of living, especially in one of the most inhabitable regions in the world, while you trek across a dramatic gorge with frozen waterfalls on the frozen trail of Zanskar spanned out like a “Chadar” it acts as a mirror for the sky!
This was my third visit to Ladakh and the first one during winter season. And I must admit, the life in winters is extremely tough here. Temperature during day was below -8 degrees and nights were below --16 degrees in Leh. So, if you're planning to visit Leh in winters, make sure you get enough warm clothes.
Chadar Trek region is even colder where the temperature can drop to -30 degrees and it will test your patience and mental strength
The easiest way to travel to Leh in winters is by air. The nearest airport is Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport (IXL) located in Leh.
Chadar Trek Itinerary:
Day 1: Fly to Leh | Arrival
Day 2: Acclimatization Day
Day 3: Medical Check up
Day 4: Leh to Tsomo Paldar
Day 5: Tsomo Paldar to Tibb Cave (10 KM)
Day 6: Tibb Cave to Nerak and back to Tibb Cave (14 KM one side, 28 KM in total)
Day 7: Tibb Cave to Tsomo Paldar (10 KM)
Day 8: Tsomo Paldar to Leh
Day 9: Fly back from Leh
It’s always good to plan for an additional day to accommodate any unforeseen conditions like bad weather, broken Chadar, flight delays or others. I stayed for extra 2 days and explored Leh.

One more question - which camera and camera gears did you carry? I am concerned about the weight and whether they will work in such cold temperatures.
This was shot on iPhone (hand held using Action Mode)
I don’t carry any other camera or mic with me. All my videos on my channel are only and only shot on iPhone 😊
Awesome cotent mam can u pls tell me how did u filmed all the videos in that harsh conditions and which gadgets u have used to capture kindly reply
First of all, thanks for watching the videos. I used iPhone (handheld). Initially I tried gimble, but couldn’t walk along with it as you need lot of concentration to walk on slippery ice sheet.
Is there any clock room kind of facility available in the hotel during trek ? Pls advise

Hi Megha,
Nice videos on Chadar trek with very useful info shared by you. Appreciate all info as I went through all videos related to Chadar. Which month and year did you do this trek ? And which treks did you do before Chadar trek ? Any winter trek experience must before doing Chadar ?
I am 59 and based at Gurgaon. Planning to do it in Jan 2025 with TTH. Would like to get connected with you for a chat ....
Hi…thank you for watching all the videos! 🙏🙏🙏 I did just one winter trek before Chadar and I feel that was the right decision. Winter treks are very different. I did this in Jan 2023.

Thank you 😊
can we get hiking pole at Leh on rent?
Yes. Your trekking partner can also arrange if you ask.
But if you regularly hike or regularly plan to hike it’s better to purchase one. The rent will cost you the amount the hiking pole.
Did you go in Jan or Feb?
I did summit on 31st Jan
😍
Thanks for watching 🙏🙏🙏
