This is the video so many of you have been asking for! I'm finally comparing the original pre-reformulation Alien perfume to the current day, reformulated Alien. I'll let you know how they compare in terms of scent, performance and longevity, and whether or not I think the current day formulation of Mugler Alien is still worth getting!

I work for a beauty retailer. I asked the rep and she said when L’Oreal bought it from clarins there was an ingredient only clarins had. Which is Cashmeran that was on a richer sweeter side. When L’Oreal bought it over they couldn’t match it. That’s why it doesn’t have that sweet richness
I wish these beauty companies would stop selling over to L'Oréal.

It is not the same fragrance, it smells shipper that the real one. If you like the original one you are not going to like this one. I loved Alien the original, the new one doesn't do nothing for me.
It's funny I tried it in Dillard's this evening and I noticed it does not have that sweetness to it and I'm so surprised that it's not lasting. WOW. Well Loreal needs to buy The Secret from Clarins because this is ridiculous
Sambac and cashmeran were highly impacted by IFRA which is why Alien was hit the hardest by the reformation. I guess L’Oréal did the best they could, given those restrictions.
I never tried the OG alien, only ever experienced this reformulated version and omg it’s very unique hard to describe kind of grape soda and solar white florals, not girly sweet but not cleaning product vibe either. A beautiful mix of sexy creamy woody florals with the perfect amount of sweetness for me, just ordered full size bottle ♥️
Sorry if I'm emotional about that. Alien was my most favourite perfume ever. Before the reformulation, it was supersexy, it had power and it lasted for days. Now after Loreal bought it from Clarins, it's fresh and weak, not sexy and it has no performance, it lasts only minutes. So sad! :(

That’s a helpful comparison video between the old and new formulations. Every time I wear Alien (present day formulation), I end up feeling overwhelmed by the dry down but my husband adores it. So funny because he couldn’t really care less about my preferred and favourite scents (except for L’Interdit EDP - which he also reacts to quite enthusiastically as he does Alien) 😂

I love the new Alien! It's really hot and humid in Australia so the OG was really overwhelming and nauseating. I wore it strictly in winter and still have the 10+ year old bottle. The new one is much lighter and wearable. It really lasts a long time on me. The assistant sprayed it on my skin and a piece of paper. Well I've kept that piece of paper in my handbag and the fragrance has perfumed everything! Every time I open my handbag I can smell it. It's definitely more easy to wear and likeable. Lasts hours but not forever on skin like the OG. I don't mind because it's enough for me and I love respraying it! 💜👽
I did not smell any woody notes in the current version. Only extreme white flowery notes and it gave me a headache. I checked it out cuz i like heavier perfumes with woody notes combinated with fruity or flowery notes but this wasn't what i expected it to smell like lol
Hi, pre-reformulated Alien makes me nauseous. But the reformulated is lighter on the woody note and is a lifer.
Last night I was grabbing my preformed Alien and o was like ooh Hod I love this scent 🥰🥰🥰

I don't reckon Alien is an every day kind of perfume, and thus I avoid wearing it. However, I like it so much that I sometimes spray it on a piece of paper that I put next to my computer when I work and I do get whiffs of it ALL day. (and this is the current version I'm talking about).
I only love older reformulated Angel and Alien which I both have. They are just what I love. I even have pre reformulated Dior Poisons from pure to midnight to the OG. They're all better than current formulations. Performance, longevity and sillage. All better. 2 sprays maximum with pre reformulated versions. More sprays with current formulations. The OG Angel is more chocolate than current formulations.
If you can get the clarins formula or pre. L'Oréal will butcher it all now, .....that's just my opinion. If anything goes like alien goddess it will appeal to the masses and that's OK. I'm not in the masses though lol 😆
When they do this they always destroy the original DNA. They are riding on the past performance, and trusting it for the money grab. I keep all my OG smells in it's safe space.

It would help a lot if you showed the bottle more so we can have an idea of the real Alien, how it really looks like and avoid buying fake ones.
It's not fake. It's the original but the company changed the formula for something cheaper

I cannot tell how the old Alien smells, but I can confirm, that the current Alien that I have smelled was very repulsive to me. Yana, you described it perfectly, I thought the same - SYNTHETIC JASMINE !!! It made me sick. I could not understand why people loved this perfume so much. I thought, maybe I did not like jasmine... But no, I actually bought real jasmine fragrance, right from Grasse, France. Obviously, it is Jasmine de Grasse and it is indolic, yes, and later - just stunning! Maybe I would like the original Alien, if it is just real jasmine.
Sidenote: Yana, you made me buy Angel Muse EDT. I own it like 20 minutes now :)? I did not know it, but I love it!!! I can't stand the OG Angel, for me it is a stink which gives me a headache. But this is different, very appealing. I also orderded Fendi Theorema 5 ml from Ebay, I am very curious!

I love Jasmine that’s why I love Alien. It’s very noticeable to my nose. The older version was deep, heavy & addictive and I find the current one to be watered down. I can’t get over how they butchered this fragrance. 💜🌸

i dont know why but i get a cold spicy note from alien, whether it's on clothes or my skin, like it smelles like spices but not warm spices, it smells kinda like cold synthetic spices i dont know how else to describe it and im so sad i really wanted to love it, i love how it smells when i sniff the bottle, but as soon as i spray it on soemthing, i end up not liking it

A little late to this discussion, I loved the OG Alien. It was beautiful and rich on my skin, the jasmine was fantastic. I finally bought an fb of what turned out to be the reformed Alien and I cannot wear it. It smells like mildew on my skin. I get no floral's, no amber, just a musty, mildewy aroma with a wisp of concord grape in the base. It kind of turns my stomach. I was so disappointed in it. I still have this bottle and try it every now and again hoping for a miracle, but it's just bad on me. What happened to Alien??? I can only surmise that they had to change aroma chemicals to something that is not compatible with my skin chemistry. Such a shame..... for me, it's one of the worst reformulations I've ever experienced.
Is it possible buy The Original Alien and where i could get it ? 🙏🏻
I have put alien and angel on my list but never freaking bought them when I could. I bought a 6ml/0.2 oz and for the past 2 weeks where I bought it from were just send me txt and emails of 30% off for alien and the others... I'm mad at myself. I should have screenshot the site. I was trying to find out if there is a visual difference between them or change in "Made in" but no one has the answers. I did see something about the 'Thierry Mugler' is removed for the current one but don't know how true that statement is. Revisiting the site where I got my mini, they don't have the big sizes at all just the sample one. I knew they have the hair mist (with a pic) but the picture for it is not uploaded "picture coming soon". there is a comment down here about "Mfd for CFG". Just to let you know the full back reads, Mfd. for CFG 92200 Neuilly 95300 Pontoise - France. I will take a risk in buying a big bottle... does anyone recommend something similar to old Alien?

I give up on getting Alien... I tried 2 different online stores and I got refunded on both. I asked and never got a response back. I ended up ordering the oil and if I end up loving it I'm getting 10 more. I was able to get my hands on a collective mini for around $20 under the title Thierry Mugler Angel Mini Eau de Parfum Splash for Women, 0.17 oz the picture on the site and actual product I received was different only based on the outer box. It came in a medium size magnetic box, opened it and the cutest mini cake with the mini as the topping. Mfd. for CFG 92200 Neuilly-sur-Seine 95300 Pontoise - France

Thank you so much. Several years ago, I had a miniature of the old Alien. The first time I tried it, I was blow away, it's the strongest, deepest scent I've ever smell since I usually go for pretty and bright fragrances. I don't think it suits me and I think I need times to get used to it. Lately when I was sitting at the coffee shop, a girl passed by me and she's wearing Alien. I was hypnotized by the mysterious, sexy scent trail of her, I went home and find my mini Alien and completely fell in love with it. Now I want a big bottle but I'm so worried about the new reformulation since I don't like soapy scent. And to me the old version is never a soapy scent, it's so rich and potent, last on me all day long even after showering. I'm gonna give the new version a try, hopefully it's still good.

I sprayed alien, Angel, and Angel nova on my hands/wrists at ultra. I was surprised I still smelled it after washing my hands 🥰

It's so different to me I miss the old one....I have the current and to me it just isn't the same..honestly I do t even think I'd call it alien this was my signature scent and isn't now because of the differences..it doesn't project well on me at all..

Ι am devastated because for me T Mugler was an iconic pefume brand. Its perfumes were statement powerhouses. Almost niche in quality. Now they are so mainstream that my teenage daughter wears.
I can’t wear the original Alien because it’s way too potent for me. Just one spray makes me feel nauseated. I’ve only ever experienced that with one other perfume, Lancôme Midnight Rose, which I also find overwhelmingly strong. I tried the current Alien on a paper strip and it definitely seemed soapier but still pretty strong, so I don’t think I could wear it either.
Both of my bottles are pre-Loreal (2012&2018). I am nervous to try the current formulation because one of the things I love in mine is the woodiness. Thankfully Alien is strong enough I only need a couple sprays, so what I have should last a very long time.
The old one is obviously better and I will never forgive L’Oréal. BUT….The new one is still better than other perfumes out there at the price point, IMO.

OMG this is heartbreaking b/c I love the original and I find them to be really different from the initial spray, to the dry down to the longevity. I don't know why they did this so I have to find another fragrance. 😒

I don’t miss the old one, I like the newer version tbh the old one had a saliva smell hint to it I couldn’t stand it.
I got into Alien through the new formula, I love it so much back then. But recently I found out there is old version through this video, and I happen to found the old formula miniature with "thierry mugler" on the packaging.
After tried the old formula, I spray the new formula try it again, only to found out this time I can smell a distasteful scent lingering around under the jasmine note, it will goes off after around 1 hour++ but I can never love the new formula like before because every time I use it I will smell that scent that I dislike along with the jasmine😂
While the old formula remind me of the 1st moment I fall in love to ALIEN, and on top of that it's much more richer of all the notes I loves about alien, I immediately brought all remaining stocks from the store.
Could you do one for Angel too?
When Clarins sold to L'Oreal I thought Alien was fake. I suffer with contact dermatitis with the L'Oreal formulation. I seriously don't know what to do!!!

Does anyone know the difference, if any, between the bottle with the "square top" and the one with the "pointy top" that looks like the OG bottle? Both are new, and say Mugler on the front. Except one retails for $90 for just 30ml (pointy top one), same one but refillable for $100, and a 60ml refillable one for $150! The other retailer sells the 60ml (square top one - shown in the video) non refillable for approx. $180.
The first bottles are supposed to be from a cheaper chemist retailer, so it doesn't make much sense.
I'm in Australia btw if anyone knows what I'm talking about. Priceline and Chemist Warehouse both sell them. I'm just really confused about the price difference, bottle shapes, and no idea the new ones were refillable 💜
The pointy bottle is the real one,.. square top is fake.. search RUclips for fake vs real & u can see the difference.
Random but curious question- how many times do you personally spray for the day?
Usually 4 sprays with the older one and 6 sprays with the current day. I don't spray on my neck though, as it can become overwhelming
Yana, I'm currently considering getting a bottle of Alien. A store here, still has one of those snazzy ltd edition multi-colour bottles. Do you have that one? or smelt that one? My understanding is that the juice is still the OG, but the bottle was made differently. I like the fact that the bottle is reflllable, so I won't need to toss it, when I'm done. I haven't checked, but it'd by nice if TM took a bit off the price of the product, if the refill's just sent in a plain bottle : ))

There are still Alien by MUGLER that's been formulated by Clarins when you check the bottom part of the box. When it says "Mfd for CFG".

I loved the old formula but it was so strong that when I sprayed it it suffocated me. The new formula is still strong but I can now wear it and really enjoy. I just bought 60ml ❤️ This is one of the best reformulations in history because they did not ruin the scent. It still smells the same to me.

Yes, but it takes a bit of digging. Sometimes warehouses sales have it, or Evil Bay. Technically you can still find it but it's tricky and not readily available in stores

I'm heartbroken with the new formulation. To me it smells completely different. It smells like toilet water jasmine 😂 DB dupe is literally better. I've been wearing it for days and it actually smells like the old opening... it was my FAVOURITE FRAGRANCE OF ALL TIME. And I'm a fragrance connoisseur. I was so heartbroken I cried for 2 days. I've been wearing this perfume since It came onto the market in 2005 and it is literally the smell that I am known by. Very very upsetting. Maybe I'll have to get some cashmere and layer it with the new one. C'est la vie 😭🥺❤️🙏🏻
I don’t like the new formulation of this alien. I had the original and baby I could still smell me after hours but the new one… I just can’t vibe with it at all!!!! The DNA isn’t the same. I guess I’ll take it back smh!
I am mortified that alien as been sold this was the only perfume I liked now I have to find another one . Alien was such a dignified perfume and classy so not happy it's been sold but my question is why was it sold its a higher seller so I don't get it

Well you do not have the earliest version of it which is almost transparent color in bottle. It almost looks empty when it’s full 😂😬

Because there was Thierry Mugler version but. But then Mugler was Clarins and of course they reformulated everything. Now all Mugler is under L’Oreal so I think they also change it
Alien isnt the way it used to be, Ive smelled how it smells today and its not good like it was years ago. It was really good back then.

The new alien 👽 is AWFUL. I wish I could smell your new bottle because I’ve purchased the new one a few times only to return it because it’s like wtf am I wearing. Zero compliments but with the old formula people were bothering me with compliments (figure of speech). I literally went from constantly having to tell people what I’m wearing to crickets 🦗 with the new formula.
