With the US boycott of the 1980 Olympics she couldn't compete at a high level tournament until 1981 Worlds where she entered the Code of Points!!!...She was the first Hispanic-American to make a US Olympic team (1980 ....& 1984) and the first Hispanic-American to medal at the Olympics ...First Hispanic-American National Champion 1979 Bars (Aged 12, just two months before her 13th Birthday) 1981 & 1982 AA, 1984 Beam. She also won the 1980 US Olympic Trials at just 13 (2 months before her 14th Birthday, back when the legal age was 14)
