- It's been 7 weeks since I had my 3rd surgery on my right elbow. It was definitely a challenge to get ready for the first competition of the season, but I had a great time in Knoxville and even managed to win on balance beam. You look so tall standing against your teammates! As a tall gymnast myself, I think it is amazing what you can do as tall as you are! You are going to shine in NCAA! Way to go Whitney!
I think she’s twice as tall as when I first started watching her lol also Alabama is nice cause it’s closer to home
How tall is she 5-6? She is like a giant compared to even the her coach.

I am a bit sad we never got to see her perform her other floor routine before she got injured.

WHITNEY WE ARE ALL SO PROUD OF YOU! Keep working towards perfect gymnastics, and you might get a perfect 10 before you get to collage! Nail that beam dismount, have super stretched fingers, arrow straight legs, extended pointed feet, pushed back shoulders, chin up and you got this!!!!
Congratulations Whitney!! Going 27+ on 3 events for the first meet of the season, less than 2 months after having surgery, is absolutely amazing and a testament to how great of a gymnast you are. Alabama will be so lucky to have you, but in the meantime, I imagine you'll only get better with more training time under your belt as you get further into season. Love this video and #RollTide!!

I quit gymnastics after an injury, and that's my biggest regret in life!
I didn't give myself the time and patience that I needed. I was frustrated bc It wasn't getting my skills, strengths, and difficulty back within the (very short and unrealistic) timeline that I had planned for myself. And it ended up leading to a lot of anxiety (I was having panic attacks almost every practice) and depression

This used to be a local meet for my daughter when she competed. Actually recognized her former coaches, teammate in the background as well as judges I know! Congratulations on your first competition of the season.
It's been so long since one f these videos and I've missed it so much!! Whit is doing sooo well, esp with her recovery and everything. I'm so glad she's taking it slowly to build her strength back post-surgery

On the other hand, I have to admit I'm kinda confused, why is it that no coach and almost no judge is wearing a mask? Is it not mandatory there? I'm asking because here in Italy (where I'm from) it's mandatory everywhere, even athletes are required to wear a mask as soon as they finish their routine/match.
There’s no national mask mandate right now in the United States. It’s up to the individual state governments and venues themselves. Looks like the State, city, venue, and participants decided against it.
@@hannahwaterman2679 Oh I see, I'd be a bit uncomfortable there but maybe the situation there is not as bad as it is here right now.
@@arialogic Oh it’s definitely that bad right now. The American Southeast is generally politically conservative, and right now many American conservatives view masks and vaccine requirements as government overstep, or simply won’t go places where they are required. Hence, most of the American Southeast just kind of ignores Covid.
@@hannahwaterman2679 That saddens me. No one likes masks, I for sure can't wait to get rid of them, but right now I think it's too risky not to wear them (beside the fact that they are mandatory here). I don't know, I wouldn't feel safe there.

Actually I'm getting to the point where I enjoy NCAA gymnastics more then elite international meets because the college meets are so much better, both in the quality of the gymnasts and the choreography. In the NCAA meets, form and flow count as does elements beyond just acro (tricks) skills. The elite levels seem to throw form out the window in the effort to "up" the D score and it often looks just sloppy and thrown together. I appreciate and enjoy seeing great form, legs, feet together, straight legs, toe point and stretched body positions and some real dance elements not just bobbing heads and flailing arms. You rock Whit! So excited to see your progress in the coming years.
