- Ben Affleck (“Gone Girl”) and Ana de Armas (“Knives Out”) star in the psychological thriller “Deep Water” from director Adrian Lyne (“Fatal Attraction,” “Indecent Proposal”). Based on the celebrated novel by famed mystery writer Patricia Highsmith (The Talented Mr. Ripley), “Deep Water” takes us inside the marriage of picture-perfect Vic (Affleck) and Melinda (de Armas) Van Allen to discover the dangerous mind games they play and what happens to the people that get caught up in them.

If the trailer makes you feel a certain way I can guarantee the majority of those feelings are coming from the music, whether you realize it or not. Such a great choice of tones, more akin to a horror movie. Not to mention the heavily distorted major chord at the end, as though it's tainted. Pretty awesome.

Affleck and de Armas split up, and since then neither wanted to promote this movie anymore, so it was kinda thrown on Hulu. Not sure how much fortune that spells out.

@@jurjen8703 That's not how it works. Any promotion that was planned for the film is contractual, and the actors are required to do whatever their contract says. It being released on Hulu is due largely to the Covid-19 situation, other factors stemming from that, and nothing whatsoever to do with Affleck's relationship with the girl.
Same. Adrian Lyne is my absolute favorite director, I love his style and vibe so much. I really hope it makes a lot of money so we get more from him, cause it's been like 20 years since his last film!

This is probably going to be one of my favorite movies of the year. There is an emotional pull that some movies do exceedingly well and become memorable because of it. This feels like one of those movies.

I’ve just read the book this based on and interestingly this was written way before gone girl and all the rest, however Gillian Flynn the author of Gone girl says this book served as an inspiration. So that being said the book felt a bit slower moving than the stories we are used to today. The trailer looks great and I can’t wait to watch it.
The book was also created in the late 50s, I believe. Which would explain the slower pace.
Patricia Highsmith is an AMAZING novelist and basically started this whole genre of kind of sexual suspense/hidden motives. Read the talented Mr Ripley next and the other books in that series- theyre amazing!

@@arx117 That's not quite the word I would use to describe it... there's often underlying sexual themes to her work (about hidden sexual desires that cause people do things) but I definitely wouldnt say her work is erotic by any means. She has a super interesting way of writing though- check it out, you'll like it!

Just switched off the TV after watching the movie in Amazon prime.It takes great dedication and unconditional love to pull through such a wreaked marriage life.Plenty of lessons to learn from.Moral of the story,if you can't handle relationships,stay as far as possible.Cause it's a life long commitment!!!
