Ive never even heard of these before this video. After a quick search, I see why. Im amazed at the broken prices theyre going for, i wouldnt buy one like new.
yeah thats pretty crazy I didn't even know they made a handheld I got to play the console with cd rom back in the day was pretty advanced for the time more so than even I realized now 😮
I had a Turbo Express and loved it. It was my only TG16 system. Unfortunately they suffered from the same problems as the Game Gear, Lynx, and Nomad in that they were basically ticking timebombs because they all had capacitors that tended to go bad and leak.
To enhance your dental abraders, with mine I removed the plastic bit and I have a pin vice with a "yankee" or Archimedes drive turning it into a nice little controllable drill. You should see my watchmakers micro fine drills and taps as some watch screw holes are abs microscopic but its useful to have something to chase out screw threads or reform the threads by gently reaming to next size up and then tapping a new thread.
If it's any help I've been using them for over 20 years and they're fine when you have bigger joints to clean up, for small stuff I use wick/braid. I replace the plastic tips regularly as they tend to get melted after a few hours of sucking up solder but i think that would depend on the expense of your sucker, more money=better product!!
any chance that SMXO under the white epoxy is upgradeable to a MEMS oscillator ? high shock and vibration resistance = accurate timing, even lower power consumption ..
#2 won't work without a good gameslot. but it potentially has a bad cpu chip. I have a turboexpress that I think has a dead processor that exhibits the same white screen of death. 1 of these days I will find a parts pcb (can use the later pcengine or an old turbografx 16 console for parts)
This video was originally released on the main channel about 4 months ago, so in it my hair is still missing from the treatments. We're using this channel to upload longer versions of the main channel videos, and they're just a bit behind from the main channel's release schedule, so that's why you see "older" clips of me
*TIP* USE A SOFT WIRE BRUSH For a quick non destructive removal of stubborn foreign substances on PCB's, and in some cases, using the brush strategically those PCB through holes.. APU 👁👍
Informative as always but what I would like to know about is how YOU are doing! You sound like you always do but you "look" a bit distressed. How are your treatments going and are you getting ahead of this disease? You're fanbase wants to know that you are ok and doing well. Don't mean to pry but many of us are just wondering if everything is still going to plan.
Thanks for the message. This is the extended cut of a video I filmed back in June or July when I was still recovering from chemo. Doing much better now and I am in remission.
Could you not of built a buzz bar from the ground either side of the cap and attached to that? That way you could have put it back in the same place easier.
I was close attempting to fix NEC handheld my noob self. But the owner doesn't want modern replacement screen. Only original old stock. Welp..............
You should read up on the "plague" of capacitors caused by a worker who stole an electrolyte formula but miscopied it, he then convinced his company to use it and during this time staff left to go to work for Chinese makers and stole the already stolen formula thus spreading the "plague", it affects capacitors primarily from the 90's to towards the end of the 2000's. People often ask about the curious engravings atop electrolytic capacitors, they are there to vent hydrogen caused by overheating, if they were totally locked sealed shut the capacitors have the ability to blow small holes in your device and with bigger sealed ones like used in telephone systems could blow up a whole cabinet and injure workers. When I worked for the railways, in the yard we were given the locomotive capacitors to bugger about with which entailed of wiring positive volts to the negative via a very long set of cables and those things used to fly into the air like a bomb and then snow quite horrible flakes of capacitor innards upon us hapless fools :D One huge capacitor not even mains electric would spark it into detonating so we hooked up the railways 3rd rail all 750v of very high amperage DC the wrong way round... man that went off like a ballistic missile kaboom :P

Nice fixes man! That one capacitor for the screen is awesome
Awesome repair!!

would've actually been pretty crazy be able to play bonk anywhere ❤
“flux it up” merch would be amazing js lol 🙌🙌

I don't think the Nomad has the capacitor problem - mine is totally unrestored and still works fine. Both of my _Game Gears_ are recapped of course.

Do you have any of the trace repair kits? Like the little copper pads on a sheet you can glue on, solder and mask.
I'm sure of it
Why not use hot glue to hold down the loose caps?
I had never seen you using a solder sucker in any of your videos. what is your opinion on them?
If it's any help I've been using them for over 20 years and they're fine when you have bigger joints to clean up, for small stuff I use wick/braid. Never had I, that sucks!!! 🤭
Enjoy your videos...I use lime or lemon juice on the corrison and it works exceptionally well.
Blast from the past! Nice..
Have ever used a radial tantalum to replace that kind of repair. I used to bend the leg to replace missing traces and trim to fit.

The two resistors next to the wire you fixed have poor solder on one end.
Try to repair TurboDuo (TurboGrafx-16) consoles too!
wonder if that turbovision even works? because as far as i know all signals are digital now
It would not get a broadcast TV signal as none exist in that frequency range anymore. If it has a radio receiver that should still work.

So I assume then this is material recorded some time ago? Or are you having treatments again Steve?
This is the "long" channel where previous and long-form episodes are uploaded.

I believe it is a region free mod, was also doable on the home unit.
Steve...the electronic dentist.
I wonder if it needs a game in it to turn on?

Where do you sell your fixed items? Do you have a store front or website?
We haven't been selling much recently but we've been listing some items for sale on our Discord server: discord.gg/tronicsfix

get a solder vacuum and clean your iron

i hate it that always is "We make money" Videos of just the Profit is in your mind... that is why this Tech stuff is so high in Price..
No. 2 has no screen capacitor
Meditative
I don't think it should turn on without any game inserted.
I bet if you bring that thing into a plane, you'll land straight to a jail

Wow that's crazy, thanks for sharing your story! And I will have to look more into the capacitor plague. That's interesting
manual gear game :D
And after you repair them my address is ....
Have been a fan from the beginning, way too many adverts have now ruined the experience, it seems that googles greed knows no bounds
I agree.
Wouldnt it be youtubes grees
Still bald why?

Oh I see.. that’s good to hear. I was wondering how well you were recovering brother.
Quick question, this channel is also run by Steve right?
@@MachinimaCommentary1 It is, it's the "long" version of Steve's shorter videos and quite often are several months after the original shorter video.
He looks like a character from Fallout
Fallout TV ShitShow
Fiiirst !
TronicsFix D.D.S.
When u gonna use 4K camera its 2025 almost. 1080p is 2010
The most widely used monitor or screen is still 1080p.
Unfortunately not everyone can watch videos in 4K because the higher the resolution, more bandwidth will require.
Are you all missing this huge fluke occuring at 13:40 ??? Why is nobody mentioning it?
6 batteries for 3 hours ? huh?
Thats what the wife said.
