Hey guys, thanks for the support and love as always! Just wanted to caveat my take on button controls with a few things:
    1) *I'm definitely not saying that ALL touch controls are always better than button controls* (some suck and enjoy registering an action when you so much as look at them). I'm more saying that when compared to buds of a similar price to the 85T, that the comparative experience as a whole has been so much more intuitive and pleasant to use - see below for the reasons why.
    2) *I don't dislike button controls simply because they're button controls.* I dislike them because 99% of the time, they mean you have push the earbuds into your ears to operature them (raising volume multiple times is particularly unpleasant) and the clicking sound in your ears never a plus for me.
    3) *Some people just prefer button controls over touch controls and that's totally fine!* Yes, you are allowed your own personal preference! After all, there are situational uses where only button controls will do - like if you wear gloves a lot for example. But outside of those situations, I have never encountered button controls that I could honestly say were as good as, or better than good touch controls. If I do, trust me, I will be very happy to let you guys know!
The intro of this video was meant to be tongue in cheek - I don't always leave the room whenever I see button controls 😂 (I wouldn't be able to my laptop otherwise) But in all seriousness, what I am more disappointed about, is that Jabra didn't improve the button controls whatsoever. It is literally a copy-paste of the 75T. Make the buttons register with a more delicate click or remove the annoying clicking sound and I'd have so much less to complain about.
TLDR: I don't actually hate all button controls, but these aren't a great experience (or particularly great value for money) when compared to touch control buds around a similar price as the 85T.
Thanks again guys - I am happy for you to still fight the corner for button controls so feel free to attempt to change my mind in the comments below! 😆👍🏻
    Mark

Came here to rage. I absolutely hate touch controls. I wear beanies, gloves, work out, get sweaty bump clothing/helmet straps and just have all kinds of issues. I want to see more buttons on premium earbuds especially ones made for working out. I like the click and tactile feedback too, touch still makes a sound. Hard to press buttons especially press+hold commands can be painful. We'll see how the 75t's fair, got a pair coming today.

I was going to say, I switch from 65t to buds pro, and I hate the touch controls. Part of it being I almost always need to adjust the earbuds because my ears are just not good with keeping earbuds in at least in the first insertion. The other part is that I found myself hitting the touch surface multiple times trying to pause or do any of the other interaction.
One of my ear buds on my buds pro recently went bad, so I'm sending them into repair/replace/refund. Will give me an opportunity to maybe go back to jabra.
I do really love the independence between earbuds in the buds pro though. Left or right ear, though I prefer using my left ear for the bud because I tend to hear more clearly in my right ear if someone (wife) is trying to talk to me.

Completely agree - having owned the WF-1000XM3s, the touch button was a pain as the feedback for registering your touch had an annoying split second delay from touching, resulting in miss touches or double touches. Touch buttons look impressive on paper as we are all familiar with touch screens by now, but for headphones the benefits of no noise when pressing and less pressure to press are outweighed by the functionality of a physical button, in my opinion.

I definitely agree with you that not all touch controls are great - I've found that those which have no functionality on a single tap to be much more intuitive to use that respect. For me, in terms of button controls, I far favour those which are more on top of each bud, so you can pinch the bud to press it without pushing the earbuds into your ear canal to some degree (like what we have here).
I'd also be a little more onboard with them if they eliminated the clicking sound - though you're right, these aren't the worst button controls I've ever come across. But thank you for sharing your point of view as always!

Buttons are way better imo. When tapping a touch controlled earbuds my ears ring hurt. Its weird but for some reason this doesnt happen with buttons. All my friends with airpods have said the same thing when we swapped earbuds. Besides buttons are actually more reliable than touch- missing or swiping incorrectly by accident is much more common with touch.
At the end of the day, of course, its just another thing of preference, but placing buttons as a drawback is just incorrect, sorry.
At the same time, I'd love to know which earbuds you have used have such great touch controls so as to merit your claim of buttons being inferior! Could anyone give an example? Maybe upon using proper touch controls I'll never go back to buttons too? :D

I more mean that out of buds of a similar price to the 85T, that the touch control experience there as a whole has been a hell of a lot more intuitive and pleasant than what we've got here.
This would be a slightly different matter if Jabra had made *literally any* improvements to the button controls on the 85T, but they're completely identical in every way - and they weren't perfect to start with. Thanks for voicing your perspective!

I had 75T’s, lost them on a job site and liked them a lot. Went to the 85T, and it felt like a huge step back. The battery life was meh, the fit was not great, and the sound was better on the 75T’s. I now have the Bose after returning the 85T’s and they’re really solid. They really should get an eq on the app, but the sound is still better and the ANC is ridiculous. The only reason why I returned them and used the money to buy the Samsung Galaxy Buds Plus was because of that audio hiss you speak of. It was so annoying to watch movies or anime with that background noise going off. I would happily replace my Galaxy buds to the 85t's when I get the chance to do so.

  • @forlutia

The Jabra 75T was a significant jump over the 65T whereas with the 85T over the 75T...not so much. To begin with, the design had hardly changed and to my surprise the 85T are actually larger that the 75T. Most manufacturers are cramming as much tech as possible into a smaller form factor but Jabra surprisingly increased the size. I would have been happy with the same shape of the 75T albeit with an even lower profile. Considering the recent firmware update to the 75T with added ANC, the 85T will be a hard sell even with the improved fit and audio quality. That's not a knock on the improvements of the 85T by any means, it's just that the 75T is really that good and an incredible value at almost $100 less than the 85T. I honestly think that Jabra released the 85T too soon. With the popularity of the 75T still high they could have waited a bit and released a more proper successor to the 75T. It will be interesting to see where Jabra goes from here.

I got these as a free upgrade on warranty from 65ts. While the sound quality is a major improvement and the ANC is great... the main problem is the fit. I used the smallest ear gels on the 65ts and the largest on the 85ts. You are relying on that fit to keep them in. Plenty of times I reached up and found the bud half out of by ear without knowing. They basically sit comfortably in the bed of your ear but not securely. These may not be an issue for many people but I found even with a vigorous walk, I had to adjust the buds every now and then.
Still, the sound is excellent and ANC is a real bonus.

At that price they are still significantly more expensive than the budget earbuds you've been reviewing. I like them so far - only noticeable hissing is on hear-through mode. But this video has me thinking - if there are so many budget true wireless earbuds that you've been rating so high, what features do the Jabra's (or any mid-tier true wireless earbud for that matter) have that makes them deserving of the higher "premium" price point?

As someone who works out, the buttons are way better than the touch controls. With the touch controls, there are a lot of false positive touches. I wear hoodies when I train. The button controls keep that from happening. Also, the 75t are excellent for working out. I train with them all the time. I don't hear the audio hiss you speak of with the 75t. I just got the 85t and they sounded like complete crap to me. They were extremely flat sounding and didn't have the "Jabra sound". However, they did update the 85t a couple of days ago. They do sound more boomy, but something sounds off to me. Overall, I think the 75t make more sense.

I can definitely understand the benefits when it comes to working out and getting the 100% confirmation of a physical button click. And of course, I'm definitely not saying that touch controls on *any* earbuds out there are better than ALL button controls, all of the time. I more mean that compared to options around the same price as the 85T, the overall experience has been more intuitive and pleasant to use than what we've got here (of course, this just my opinion from testing).
I have heard people say that oval-shaped drivers *may not* provide a perfect seal across the board compared to circular drivers, which of course, can affect perception of sound quality - so that's definitely something to bear in mind. I have to say that, though sound signatures differ, the sound quality overall between the 75T and 85T isn't miles apart - it's more the elimination of white noise that swung it for me here. Thanks for taking the time to share your take - it's always appreciated! 🔥

Many earbuds below $100 come with soft tap and full features with much more battery life and play time in single charge, good call quality with slightly less audio quality than expensive earbuds.

Shocked about your negative words for the button controls. I live in Norway, here we have winter and minus degrees half the year. When using my Jabra Elite Active 75T outside in winter, I use wool hat over my head and warm winter gloves. With button controls it is no problem to adjust volum, skip to next song or answer a call with full winter clothing.

Very nice review, and thank you. I actually like the somewhat tactile controls, and generally find touch controls for watches and headphone too finicky, gimmicky and generally unreliable. Especially in wet or cold climates. Otherwise a very nice and honest review, and I'll keep my 75T Elites for now. 😉

Absolutely disagree with your opening comments. I own the 75t and the 85t, as well as MPOW and Tronsmart earbuds. Physical buttons are much more practical than touch controls on earbuds. I have used both touch and physical buttons and touch has been more problematic in registering exactly what you want when touching them. Especially when wearing gloves you can forget touch. The sad thing is that those opening comments put me off watching the entire review. As you rightly said it is often a personal preference, but to state yours so dramatically at the beginning of the video is off-putting. Just my honest view.

    • @mrkwd

Just to put it out there once again: It was a 'tongue in cheek' way to start the video - I don't actually leave the room when I see button controls on earbuds! Sorry to hear it put you off, but that's just my humour here on the channel.
And to clarify, I am not against ALL button controls, just those which mean you forcefully push the earbuds into your ear canal to achieve a click - but unfortunately, that's 95% of all true wireless earbuds with button controls. With button controls like that, I generally end up barely using them, so hopefully you can understand why I really dislike them. There are buds, like the 1MORE ANC, which feature button controls that you pinch to achieve a button press. They don't result in any discomfort so I have no issues with them in that respect, but those are sadly a very rare exception.
And of course - this is all just my opinion and of course, you're welcome to disagree with me and totally ignore me! The whole point of my channel is for people to be able to watch/hear my perspective as someone who endlessly tests earbuds - but ultimately make their OWN decision. If I didn't throw in my own opinion as a heavy user of true wireless earbuds, I might as well just read out a specs sheet. Hope that makes sense and thanks for taking the time to share an honest comment - I'm sure a lot of people will agree with you.

The fit are amazing. Sound is great. Great little buds. UPDATE: Had to reinstall the app on my phone. The ANC personalization section was changed. You cannot suppress sound like before. You cannot fine tune it anymore. There's virtually no difference anymore between ANC on or off. The ANC was great prior to this. The ANC was probably downgraded to give 85t's a chance. Really too bad.
ADVISE: If you still have this feature, don't uninstall your app. You will lose the ANC fine tuning.

As someone who works in a -20 freezer and constantly has a beanie on at the least, touch button controls are phenominal. I can change songs, pause, play, deny/accept calls, turn on pass thru/anc and open up google now without removing my hat. The buttons IMO are crisp and clicky. Only time i have to remove my hat with the jabra is adjusting headphone position. With touch controls I have to move my hat to do anything and adjusting is annoying due to the touch function activating.
Other than that, good review. The accuracy of the 75t portion makes it much easier to believe what you say about the 85s. The hero and zero connection for jabras is the largest downfall in my eyes for any jabra product ive used. good review

I'm really surprised about the critic on white noise because I've been using 75t for 10 months and got no white noise at all. Though my 75t started to malfunction, I can't close ANC when I want and I started to experience connection issues. I'm sending them back for a new pair. Also, buttons are better over touch controls in my opinion. You can't use touch controls with gloves and more importantly you can activate them by mistake. Design was one of the reasons why I chose 75t, because almost every other earbuds have those useless touch controls.

Any TWS earbuds with touch controls are a big NO for me. I have been using the Sabbat e12 (and Ultra) for years now and don't want anything else. As others already mentioned button control is so much better in many situations (doing sports, wearing gloves, hats etc.). Especially now in winter I can easily operate them when I wear gloves and a hat. Absolutely no problem! The buttons on the Sabbat e12 are so easy to click and it never feels like I'm hurting my ears when I push the buttons. There are many great TWS earbuds out there but all of them have touch controls which will always be the dealbreaker for me.

Why is everybody always complaining about physical buttons on earbuds? Function wise, they are lot more reliable, and wearing gloves and a cap which covers your ears in winter makes touch controlls go completely wild. Wearing a raincoat on my bike (living in The Netherlands) makes earbuds with touch controlls completely useless. And my experience with touch controll buds... they never do what I want.

The biggest reason to buy the 85t is that they removed the damn air port hole on it. That hole has been a nightmare for a butt load of 75t owners that didn't know that the hole when plugged reduces and often eliminates all the sound coming from that earbud and makes you think they are toast. I know to keep mine nice and clean with the holes empty of dirt, wax, dried salts, whatever. You will see the hole I speak of at 1:52 of the video. When it gets plugged you can hardly see it at all.
