I am 65 and discovered Röyksopp recently. I listen to this song everyday. It is one of the best songs I have ever heard (and I have heard thousands in most genres).
Something about this song is unforgettable, this group, really. I just happened to randomly buy this CD in 2005 when looking for "electronica" music, and here I am in 2024 almost tearing up at this video. Beautiful song, and beautifully shot and well edited video ❤
The video corresponds with the lyrics of "only this moment holds us together" The different women and men you see in the video are the same people, just in different time periods, because you see at the end of the video that the older woman and man who are standing the crowd turn into the younger couple, explaining the point that through the entirety of the song the lyrics change from "our love will die" to "love will survive" shown by the couple staying together.
FINALLY, after 16 years, I found this song! The first time I heard this song was between March-April 2005. I didn't know neither the title nor the name of group. How much time has passed! I'm Very Happy to listen this song! Greetings from Italy!

Bsck in 2005 when The Understanding was released, I went to a festival with Royksopp on stage, and even though I liked the album I SKIPPED their performance for no reason. Right afterwards I started listening to the album even more and regretted my decision so so much... to this day haha :)
This song came out 15 years ago, and back in 2008 when I checked it out on RUclips, it had only 1000 views. I can't fathom that it has only amassed a million views ever since! And this is one of their best songs.

I know, right? I thought I was being crazy, lol. Because even though I have literally no memories related to this song, whenever I'm listening to it, I get so overwhelmed with emotions.. It's actually quite hard to describe the feeling. Glad to know I'm not the only one!
It's a good point. As someone who suffers from severe depression, it's difficult to find music that can get me out of my self hate when it hits hard. Love songs remind me of what I lost, sad and slower songs let me relate, but do nothing to change the feeling, faster and angrier songs can help, but tend to turn some of the pain into anger. This song though... It hits the odd middle spot where I can simultaneously escape my mind and feel peace, while also encouraging my mind to actually keep thinking and moving on without lingering on the hate and pain. It's an odd sensation, but it's perfect
