Learn how to safely lift heavy objects while on the job from our Safety Analyst, Austen Schroeder. We use this training video for our Parks employees working out in the field.
I work in a warehouse lifting heavy boxes and pallets throughout the day and realized I was THIS close to seriously injuring myself due to improper lazy lifting form. This video is a godsend of a video instruction manual, Thank You!👍👍🙂
Really liked the video - good tips! Thank you. I teach this slightly differently: once crouched and balanced close to the object, I suggest lifters DO look down and grip firmly to ensure a secure grip. Then they can reestablish good top-down spinal alignment before bringing the object close and standing.
Thanks for the tips I got most of this told to me when I first started my new job but I hurt myself in the gym last year and it's still sore when I'm lifting objects or cleaning *twisting and turning doesn't help
I need something for heavy lifting. I lay carpet so we're always lifting furniture and carpet rolls. There's no way to lift these kinds of things safely that I've seen.
Manual Handling :Push Before Pulling It is safer to push rather than pull. Keep your back straight and bend your knees. Do not twist at your hips to push, but rather keep your core tight and use your legs and body weight to move the object.
And.. I see all these video's about lifting from the ground up. But what if you're taking 40 pound crates out of shelves above shoulder height? What's the best posture to do that while standing in a narrow space in the back of a truck for example? Thanks, anyone, for tips and tricks!
I know comment was 3 years ago but I think the important part is to avoid having your spine leaning forward while weight is applied to it. So if you can stay up straight you should be minimizing damage.
I'd say late 90s or maybe early 00's. These kinds of educational videos always look a bit dated regardless of when they were produced. The styles of the people in the vid are not really 80s or early 90s.
I helped my friend moved yesterday. I lifted a box and all of a sudden my lower back started hurting. It’s been 24 hours and i can’t move my lower back. I know that I lifted that box wrong after the fact. I go back to in 3 days. I need to lower back pain to go away. MAY SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME OUT.
HI Jay, just found this site now; hope you had some phycial therapy to treat you in the early days , a good physcial therpait should then ahve provided tips and corrective techniques to avoid injury next time.
Excelent! Congratulation! I`m a safety trainer from Panama, Rep. of Panama. Please let me knwow where are you, for visit and talk. Excuse my grammar. thanks
Can someone show me anything scientific that says stretching before hand is beneficial? All recent studies show there is no decrease in injuries when a person stretches before physical exertion. In fact studies show that stretching afterwards is more beneficial than stretching before hand. Anyways putting out old dated information is irresponsible and will lead to someone getting hurt. The very thing this video claims to want to prevent
yo i watch people lift shit in a fucked up way all day and that shit is crazy to watch. i dont get why people would bust their ass and lift and move shit fast, just to dick around for 3+ hours in a day. it’s honestly baffling haha, why?!?! why do people do stupid shit that will harm themselves
This is hilarious to me, really. The propaganda lift I call it. Imagine showing this video to our ancestors who would lift stones and logs and hunt with spears. They'd think we were insane.
I am sorry, these are bad examples of lifting, poor instruction, lifting away from the body core increasing risk of injury. This is not realistic and our dated training.
I appreciated the different workplace scenarios to see how each situation one could apply the proper lifting technique.

Underrated comment 😂
Oooohhhh!
This is an insanely good video. Got all the details I needed and left me not confused at all!! Kudos to the team.
Agree, it is very directive and thats whats need to illustrate to wokers how to mind their back by demonstrating the steps involved to achieve that.
Thanks to you for a great training video!
This is good for light weight packages but try this in a real working environment. These are just small, easy to carry packages.
You're right.. these are just light weight compared to real working environment like 25kg of plastic resin
wouldn't the same technique work?
You must use help when needed. Supervisors at work should encourage safety lifting at all times.
@@deanjelbertaustria6174 Workout to make your leg and core muscles stronger. 25 kg bags work with this technique.
Thank you greatly for this video. I'll put these techniques to use at my work.

Useful video.

No stratic steching without a warm up. Dynamic stretching is best before exercise/work. Static stretching should be done after exercise/work.
7:27 the best one
I like ur video, excellent
perfect thank you
How to determine the weight of a material before performing manual lifting
Hope this helps when i lift kitchen doors. I get back problems
stuff like this should be taught in school
In my standards it would be impressive if I show someone me carrying a 50 pound box overhead going upstairs
if only only you had 1 box per pallet....
So you have to move like a robot to do a correct lift.
it's worth it. I blew out my back at work one day with still 2 hours left in the shift and I could hardly walk. Took like 3 days to get over it.
That's why robots never injure their backs.
@@nickwick35 same happened. Im only 20. Is this something bad? I usually get pain when im lifting
just certain heavy packages
Yeah it worth it I wasted my 6 months to recover from injury now I'm ok after daily exercise..
8:56 Does it always take concious effort or can you train yourself to use your legs unconciously with muscle memory?
Thanks

Seriously though, thanks for this video
but what can i do when i work for UPS stacking boxes and we have 4 seconds to stack 100 pounds boxes
Safety comes first. Talk to your manager about safety risks like that.
You can make an appeal to the Teamster's Union if it oversees your job
zay gotmoves step1: go back to school
proceed stretching for 1 minute till your ready to lift an object
Powerclain the box
Can you make a guide for people with scoliosis like me?
I can't lift that box with my hands, what to do
Make sure your heals r on the ground. Don't put pressure on your joints. In this case, your knees

Is there a way to get this video outside of youtube?
use a web page like clip converter
I work in a tile shop warehouse these 170lb boxes of stone tile and all the othet tile is killing my back
when was this video made??? maybe during early 80's or 90's??
I'd say late 90s or maybe early 00's. These kinds of educational videos always look a bit dated regardless of when they were produced. The styles of the people in the vid are not really 80s or early 90s.
What if the box of paper is on the ground? How do you do it so easily if you can't easily get your fingers underneath it?
prop it up. thats what i do at work and im messing with 30 to 40 killo boxes
do you have this video in spanish?
wow thanks so much! I recently threw out my back and wished I watched this before!
Except when I do that, I hurt my legs super bad and the load is too heavy
Load > capacity = injury
Load < capacity = prehab
capacity >> load = prevention
No one has so much of time when work in ware house
Paul Sahotra you either say fuck off to your boss or your good back... you’re choice I know which I’m choosing
What if you have damaged cracking knees .... You cannot stoop like that😢
its aaaa reallyy big Problem to keep a job in this way... :( i work with lifting but i cant go by rules couse its hard when u run working....
What if i get fired for going slow for proper lifting
The lady lifting the white box in the office was not correctly lifting😂
i work in Amazon warehouse and we have to carry 15-30kg worth of boxes, it takes practice

try your local CBD store for some meds for pain
My knees don't allow me to squat. What do I do?
Search for a new job, I know it's not easy but safety and health always come in first. Good luck :)
Yes, but what about lifting things at home. I have to lift bags of cat food and kitty litter and stuff around the house. What do I do then?
@@monabiehl6213 Get rid of the cat.
Even if something small is 300 lbs its really not very heavy. You just need to get some good leverage on it.
Check out our lifting device to prevent manual handling of heavy loads such as beer kegs ruclips.net/video/fxp-uVMFgYw/видео.html
There is an easier way. If you stick your legs way out and grab it between your legs you can get some good leverage.
Why does this guy look like the evil guy of the

Did your boss send you here? Are you bored and reading the comments?
I dont believe the safety if the video is in 360p
Don't stand on your toes, you'll risk injuring your knee.
Npc type lifting
So you want to lift like your a robot.
The lady with the bag at the end, didn't finish to turn around before throwing it away. Messed-up the video.

Your full of shift your not lifting what a normal person would lift in a work place
when im 60 years old i might have back problems but at least i wont feel like a gay construction worker
