I’ve been watching JSRF documentaries, commentaries, and review videos all day, and this is by far one of the best. lol there’s so many videos out there that are so cringe. like why does everyone making a JSRF video have to include a bit of them skating irl looking like a weirdo lol thank you for not doing that.

That's a thing? Last time I was on roller skates I sprained my wrist lol.

strangely, yes. and i’m not saying that skating makes one look like a weirdo… i just mean they try to make it look like jsrf irl and i always get secondhand embarrassment from how bad it is 😅

"One of the most '90s' games ever made" is a perfect description for it.
I adore JSRF, and thank you OG Xbox for including it in the box when you bought the console back in the day.

I was heavily with you until the rockin the Mic and birthday cakes lander other than those egregious opinions.
I couldn't agree with you more. How amazing in classic this game is. It's actually my favorite game all time.

Dude your first time experience with JSRF is shockingly similar to mine, except my brother actually owned the game. Same deal, really young and didn't know what it was called, loved it to bits, brother traded it in (the traitor) , and then I believed it was some sort of fever dream until the JGR remaster released. Still knew that weren't it, and realized it was a Xbox 1 exclusive... Crazy similar story! I'm just re-replaying through the game currently and saw this review, I'm pleasantly surprised people still make videos about this awesome series!
I feel vindicated too, I'm glad someone else brought up Birthday cake, I'm trying to find the Attack helicopters in Rokkaku dai Heights and I'm going insane because Birthday Cake cycled around the playlist again...!

8:35 believe it or not Toyko actually has a sewage system that big that it's loosely based on. 12:35 frutiger aero I think it's called, early 2000s futuristic.

I remember we had this game in our house for 2 weeks one summer then gone and noone in my family could say where it went, Proceed to me being gaslit for the next 10 years looking for it at game shops and online and finding nothing but "Jet Set Radio was only on Dreamcast an xbox version does not exist" it was not until 2013 that JSRF stuff started poping up in search engines and such and I was soooo glad to find out I had not lost my mind after all.

    Great review!
I think the biggest reason this game got any sales at all is because it was bundled on that Sega GT 2002 combo disc with the Xbox. I didn't play it for quite a while after buying my Xbox because I thought it was one of those "DJ games" where you could make awful songs with very limited samples, you didn't get a box with the game it just came with a sleeve so I had nothing to go off of other than the name of the game and I was like 11.
I still have the disc though, so I am now playing this game via the Xbox emulator CXBX and a Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, works like a charm even on my pretty ratchet laptop! The only place where it was almost unplayable is when you have a boss battle with two trains, it slows down to like 3 fps when the trains do their rail electricity attack. Collecting souls/finishing the tags/unlocking the characters after you defeat the final boss really makes the game like 3 times as long while still being hella fun. :)

LOL You are wrong people nowadays play it via emulation at 4k 60 fps and at that resolution is something else on it's own

I actually got it to run on my Steam Deck via Xemu emulator. It plays great, runs great, except it slows down on heavily populated areas like 99th Street, and when you use the Boost Dash, the game just slows to a crawl. Don't ever use it.
