    • @guily6669
      @guily6669 8 лет назад +1

      +Deathmonkeyjaw Well but you might just simply buy what you need from ebay and not a actual projector and actually end up with a very cheap projector...
      Though to get a high quality picture out of it really needs a lot of calculations to know how big the box needs to be, screen size
      esolution, what magnifiers to use and the best distances between them and it would be convenient to also improve the focus system with something more adjustable...
      Im thinking that will be such an hassle that it is just better to buy a cheap led projector lol.

    • @enlightendbel
      @enlightendbel 7 лет назад +7

      Thing is, there's quite a few projectors with busted imaging components and shit lamps. The filters, lenses and focussing mechanisms practically never fail (because they are just passive pieces of metal, glass and plastic)
      So broken projectors are really a great way to get components to build your own projector.
      I used components out of a really old VGA projector to make a HD Projector.

  • @victornpb

    I built a projector some time ago, trust me your problem is that you also need a fresnell lens in front of the LCD. Also remember to put the fresnel lens on the correct orientation. If I remember correctly the side that have ripples should be facing the lcd. So the correct sequence is (LED) -- condenser-lens ----- [Fresnel} ---- [lcd] ---- {fresnel] ---- (objective). I hope this is useful

    Is the first lens glued to the LED really necessary ? What's the point of converging light then diverge it with the Fresnel lens ? What you want is to illuminate the entire LCD screen, and pass all the light trough the last lens. For that I'd rather have built the projector as : LED -> Fresnel Lens -> LCD -> (Fresnel Lens) -> Polarizer+Lens. The second Fresnel lens should converge light to make sure that all the light pass trough the last lens. Anyway, good job it's a nice project ;)

    • @flophi
      @flophi 8 лет назад

      +LightHack I think ist is. Because for projection you want to be the lightsource as small as possible. Otherwise you won't get a really sharp image. So I guess because of the first Lens, the Fresnel 'sees' just a narrow point of light. But anyway, I think that this kind of LED is not usable for a real good projector.

  • @kmemz
    @kmemz 8 лет назад +4

    Get a replacement screen for one of those 4K phones or tablets, and use that, you'll be set. Also, I have some improvement notes for it.
    1: the magnifying glass was too small. To show the whole display, the display must be small enough for the magnifying glass to cover all of, or the magnifying glass must be larger to compensate. Also, the metal rim could be affecting the amount of light able to get in at the edges slightly, so the inside half of that could be cut out.
    2: the light fission plate alone will never diffuse evenly. If you want more even diffusion, get some aluminum foil to line the walls behind the fission layer. Even better, get some small mirrors to seat in the floor and tape to the walls.
    3:the magnifying glass shouldn't have been as far away as it was. With as much room as their was between it and the display, or esoecially in tuning, the display and the fission layer, the light from the fission layer could lose its evenness, especially if there are places ofr the light to bleed out of.
    Try it with a smaller display, a magnifying slab that is large enough for all four corners of the display to be within the bounds of the magnifying glass at the same time, and with aluminum trim or taped on mirror slabs before the fission pad. That will ensure that it works correctly and enjoyably.

  • @glennledrew8347
    @glennledrew8347 Год назад

    The diameter of the projection lens does not have a bearing on the amount of the image being projected. If your setup did project the full image of the LCD panel, you could place against the lens an opaque material having a small hole and the full image would still be seen, but dimmer because of the reduced aperture (like an iris diaphragm.)
    Your small area of projection, covering only the central region, is due to the collimating lens at the LED being too small. It cannot fill the area of the larger LCD panel with light. You need a collimator of diameter at least as large as the LCD's diagonal dimension.
    Furthermore, you need to pay attention to the separation between the collimating lens and the LCD. An incorrect separation will contribute to vignetting, or a darkening of the outer part of the image.

    hey scott! i have an arduino uno and an idea, but no practical knowledge. would you be interested in making a tutorial for hacked washing machine?
    i would want to hook up an arduino to it and give me an sms message or some notification when it is done washing. my washer is 3 stories below me so it would be very convenient. i tried searching for some similiar projects but came up with nothing.

    Way better idea is to use old overhead projector(like school ones) and old TFT monitor. Add active cooling and you got yourself a home theater with resolution that's not even available on the market!

    I like to suggest same type of video by ' DIY Perks ' with 4k resolution and it's actually working pretty well.

    Maybe if you use a smaller LCD, one that'll fit the Fresnel lens, and cut the box to fit, you might get a better picture :D

      True, But you might loose a bit of resolution. Correct me if I'm wrong

    get a 600*800pixel uc40 led projector and use the lenses and the other stuff as a base for a 720p projector

    make the case 3D printed next time and maybe give it an autofocus feature? (stepper motor moves lcd or lens with ballscrew and a distance sensor and math determine the position of the motor to focus)
