How to find Cutting Length of Stirrups with example

This video shows how to find the cutting length of stirrups. Cutting length can be find if we know the beam or column cross section dimension, then it can be find out easily, by subtracting the beam width from clear covers we get the respective length then finding each four side length and adding these length, finally you have to find the hook length which is normally taken as 10xdia, and add this hook length to get the total cutting length of stirrups. In this video beam cross section with width 500mm and depth 600mm been solved and its cutting length has been found out. Hope it helps you guys.

your calculation is correct but. sorry you need to deduct the 3 time 90° bend and 2 times 135° bend for exsample you bend a rebar for 90° you need to use d1 deduction d1 is 1x10 and your rebar is 8mm you need to decuct that. if you did not deduct your 135° make long later

I believe your calculations are also not 100 % right, read IS 2502 where there is a center line method used to calculate the cutting length of stirrups. There is no need to add bend deduction in the formula, 2(a+b) + 24d is the right formula to calculate the cutting length for stirrups with hooks bend at 135°

​@@ashutosharya6221 if you are referring to page 13 of IS 2502, ref no. A, where it says 2(a+b) + 24d, then i suggest you re-read the header where it clearly says "length of bar" instead of "cutting length of bar". Both are very different things.
Now coming back to center line method for bend deduction, for 135° bend, as per IS 2502 page No. 9, the bend deduction is 3.08D or simplified as 3D

Actually in the IS code method a and b is considered from the inside of the stirrups, a = (500 - 40 - 40 - 2 *0.5*d) = 412 mm similarly b = (600 - 40 - 40 - 2 *0.5*d) = 512 mm
