Any of these covers that I have seen they all have fasteners that connect the hangers to the cover that allows them to hang the cover off of the back of the griddle. What’s to prevent water from eventually finding its way through the cover and onto the griddle.

Hard covers are meant for storage use only and this cover fits underneath the soft cover so your entire cooking station is protected. I wouldn't recommend leaving your griddle out in the rain with only the griddle top covered

Do you ever use the cover while you are cooking? To keep heat in?

I dont recommend doing that because the metal will get hot and might burn you if you accidentally touch it. This cover is made for storage and to help keep your griddle surface properly seasoned. Thanks for the comment! :)

I just bought the same one from a Costco in Alberta Canada but DID NOT have a lid. Did yours come with the lid or did you buy it separately?
